1.
I've reported it. I know first hand what its like to receive a bass that's not as it was described. I hope it doesn't end up going to some disappointed kid who's spent all his money on it
Aw spoilsport. There are plenty enough clues there to show that it's not real. I say tough poopin's to the fool that buys it. When did you report it? Looks like it might go to completion. 25 minutes to go.
2. Maureen.
3. Wow someone else with Bill Lawrence J45s. Absolutely amazing pups. Count the pole pieces folks.
4. £280 and over 4 hours to go. Someone's getting had.
5. Lead free has two benefits for us bassists - 1 the smoke from it won't make you go prematurely mental. 2 it conducts audio signals better than the standard lead laced stuff.
6. There doesn't seem to be a standard as to which is the black and which is the white. Basically you did it right, swap them about until it sounds right.
7. It's no bother mate. Yes as the wire (or whatever) is invariably forced into making physical contact with the metal spade. It's possible when soldering to join components without them making actual contact instead the solder bridges the gap. This may be ok in the short term but as the solder dries out the joint will fail. It is especially important to make metal to metal contact when you are dealing with audio.
8. The soldering isn't too bad for a first stab at it. I didn't read that you hadn't got the pups on yet - I presumed that the cloth covered wires were pup wires. Yes you will need that wee bit of wire you mentioned. As a tip you should aim to get the wires/components through the little eyelets in the pot lugs.
9.
Yes we have opened it up to gear in general now!
Ooh, do you want to see a pic of my original '80 G&L hardcase too?
10. To tell you the truth mate, it looks all wrong bar your black pup wire and the bent back lug. The leg on your cap looks like it might be touching 2 lugs too. There are a couple of ways of soldering up a job to achieve the same results. It might be best to just do it the way I posted above.
11.
In practice it does, kind of. And then you go back to a P up an you realise it's nowt like it.
Ah well, there you go.
12. As far as I'm concerned a J sounds like a J and a P sound like a P but you can also get pups (even humbuckers) to reproduce P and J characteristics. I've always imagined that a soloed split J in the neck position would give a decent P sound but I've never got passed the theory stage. I tried to get Wizard to make me one once but lost interest when the replies took so long to come back to me.
13. Ah well, the cat's out of the bag now... despite my wee red (blue) herring. It is indeed guzzibass's old L-1000. Mick was kind enough to offer it me a couple of weeks ago before putting it up for general release.
14.
Oooh and a very young Dave Navarro with blue dreads in Janes Addiction doing been caught stealing on a v tasty sparkly yellow tele shaped thing. Prob a G+L. Bass is rather naff on that one though.
Ah you're on about the vid ^ I thought I'd been transported to another thread in another multiverse.
15.
You have crossed the line now.All pre eye gouger G&L's are banned from basschat until I own one! Too much GAS for them.
I won't do it again boss. Lovely though innit. Not many people can say that their bass has been touched by Leo. Mine was one of the first G&L's so there's a distinct possibility (that's my story and I'm sticking to it ).
16. Not so much slagging everything off, as just not thinking about anything else. You'd fit in nicely.
17. Is it blue?
18.
that's the MM bridge i prefer...
Now if only I could find one.
19.
It's a great show with some ace performances and great for bass spotting. Lots of trace, some nice tbirds (belly) that loud p bass (sugar) there's sonic youth with a huge mockingbird and a tasty lead solo on a jazz bass from dinosaur jnr, and Darcy with the pumpkins looks amazing!!
20.
...and my 70s parts bass enjoying a well earned break after a heavy gigging schedule
Don't you think you should get it a pillow? My 1980 Wunkay (G&L L-1000) - mojo-a-gogo
21. Cool and the gang. Tampon is French for rubber stamp btw. Did you not try the EB forum for some? There was a guy offering a '83 bridge in a crappy state but he had the unused mutes to go along with it a couple of months back. He was after something ridiculous like £100 for the bridge which was way too much but I bet he would have sold the mute separate for a couple of bob.
22. Aye.
23. Either will do. It's normally just eaisier to bend it back.
24. One of my favorite Rage pics.
