1. Definitely a Marleaux lookalike. Are you sure its a zero fret and not just a painted fret line like the rest of the neck? Looks that way to me.
2. The colour combo may be one not produced outside of Japan. I've been looking at Fender mij basses for a while and there are many more colour options. The knobs are definitely wrong. Should be flat-top knurled chrome ones.
3. I would have snapped this up had it been a lefty. Keep coming back to this thread just to drool over it.
4. Looks superb! If only all Thumbs were made like this.
5. I bought a 1/2 size db to learn on ( being small) but was dissatisfied by the lack of presence and the physicality of what I imagined an upright should be. I moved it on quite swiftly and hope to find a more suitable instrument for my needs.
6. Of all the Limelights I have seen on their website and of course, on here, this one has to have the most mojo in looks alone by far!
7. I'd like to see you re-consider adding truss-rod covers. I think they add a touch of class.
8. Very unusual and all the extras make it rather special. Might be a bit heavy to sit on the top of the xmas tree though!
9.
Send them to me & I'll do it for you
Thanks! I'll have a think over the festive season as I may opt for your stack-knob wiring kit as well.
10.
If it's just for cosmetic reasons - I wouldn't try it myself... If I were to do it - I'd leave a short run (say 2 - 4 inches / 10 cm ish) of regular plastic insulated wire - solder to that, shrink wrap the splice / join... That way I get a nice cloth wire in the control cavity without desoldering / adding solder and heat directly to a pickup - which I'd never touch for fear of needing to rewind the pickup!
Good suggestion!
11.
Just curious as to why?
Ha! Indeed. Well, I bought some because when I had my bass re-painted I thought the existing plastic wires were pretty flimsy and fragile. It was only on closer inspecyion of where the wiring connect to the actual pups that I realised a change-over was not straightforward.
12. Interesting that you have gone from almost getting a beat-up relic jazz to buying a 'as new' looking reissue, albeit a very cool example. Hope it's a keeper :-)
13. I have two J basses. One strung with rounds and one with flats. I like to switch between depending on the feel I have in my head for a tune. They both get outings to rehearsals. I prefer rounds on my P bass with the tone rolled back.
14. I would experiment and have someone make a gold-coloured pickguard. Would really set off the maple neck.
15. She's a looker!
16. I would like to replace the pickup wires on my jazz bass with cloth wiring. Is this a possible D.I.Y. task or does it need done by a professional?
17. Has a John- Paul Jones vibe about it.
18. When I played bass in a wedding band I used to take the main vocal for around ten tunes to give the singer a rest or a break off stage. Guitarist sang some too. Made sense when playing for several hours but not every band can be so versatile.
19. My dream bass. I actually contacted Wal basses recently for a price on a lefty MK1 build. The price quoted was the same for new. After paying an initial deposit the wait is about a year but you get to choose body wood facings, fingerboard wood and even fret metal.
20. Oh my...stack-knob porn :-)
21. This guy must be laughing all the way to the bank. He just sold a telebass equivalent with Squier parts, unkown body etc for a cool £605, excl postage. Are people getting carried away and not reading the descriptions properly?
22. Nice bass for the price. I put a gold anodised pickguard on mine and hey....! Instant '57 vintage vibe :-)
23. The Bass of Doom is alive and well. Trujillo has even used it on stage and Felix Pastorius recorded with it on the latest Yellowjackets album. I can imagine it might make an appearance in the Jaco movie as it is now. Remember it was re-built/ veneered after Jaco trashed it on stage. Some people own othe basses used by Jaco. I think one of his fretted jazz basses sold at auction in recent years for around $12500.
24. If Trujillo needs to raise funds simply sell the 'Bass of Doom', sorted. I'm surprised it's not in the Fender museum already.
25. Is postage out of the question?
