1. Link not working for me. Maybe post up a photo?
2. I had an Ampeg micro amp but found the fan too noisy at home. I now have a super silent Eden wtx264 which can also be used without a cab and just headphones Very small and portable to boot and loud enough bandwise with a 4ohm cab.
3. Nice! The relicing looks very like my once beat up jap Fender JB (white/red tort guard) that I recently had resprayed black. Funny how I've gone the other way with my bass to put some new 'mojo' into it for me.
4. Pretty sure every guy with a db wishes Esperanza was his girlfriend. I'll be pleased not to need a box to stand on never mind make any meaningful noises with mine :-)
5. If you try a search on Gumtree there are a few lefties in the Glasgow area.
6. Again, thanks Marc for that piece. All useful and encouraging.
7. I have a jap '57 with all maple neck and it is wider than the '62 version. The tone is a lot brighter too compared to the mellow of a '62. Would like one of each actually, great basses. My two Fender jazz are also jap made.
8. If you need to practise you could always just pop into one of the music stores.
9. My fav Fender flats are the 40-100 gauge, super light, which have been discontinued :-(
10. Some sound advice there, thanks guys. String prices are shockingly expensive. I used to play fretless for years but never entertained getying an upright because of my small build. I did try a Stagg 3/4 eub when they came out but felt this too was too much for me. I will certainly look into getting a few lessons to understand how to approach the instrument.
11. I had a black Ray34. As good as the US models. That clear pickguard really shows off the bass to its honeyburst best!
12. I am small at 5' 1"". I have used 3/4 size to record once or twice on tracks which were not challenging but the whole physical thing made me think that to leatn some technique on an upright I should start on something compatible with my frame. Been playing bass on and off for 30yrs but they are very different instruments. I do have a bow but no arrows :-) so finger-style is what I do. For listening to upright it has to be jazz and folk that appeals. I currently play in a funk band with some lean towards latin music so could be utilised here too if my technique improves.
13. Although i'm experienced on electric bass I've just picked up a pretty worn but decent sounding 1/2 size double bass by Andreas Zeller. I have only ever borrowed an upright for recording on one or two occasions in the past and have no real experience with one. Because I'm small I thought 1/2 size would be better physically, albeit a compromise on sound and tone so I was hoping for some tips on what might get the best from the instrument, namely strings. No idea what the bass is currently strung with but I would say the action is low but would like a deeper bottom end if possible, although it has a bridge pickup fitted which is a plus. Again, don't know make of this. Anyone here been through this stage and found a good solution?
14. One of my all-time fav bassplayers. So melodic but centred.
15. Thanks for the trade offer Tom but finding cash is my biggest GAS at the mo :-)
16. I play the same way. I didnt think twice about simply flipping a guitar over to try and play on it when I was starting out.
17.
I want to know what that metal part's for now!
He could tell you but then he'd have to kill you :-) »TOP SECRET«
18. Gorgeous 75RI you have there LeftyJ. I tried the darker tort guard from my other jazz on the bass and it looked good but I'll keep it plain for a bit. Still to show it assembled to the guy who painted it.
19. Get well soon Howard. Your belter of a pickguard is now adorning my jazz bass refin.
20. I could see this taking off. Pimp My Bass thread.
21. I stopped playing for years and gradually sold all my gear. Having to buy new gear when I had the urge to play again was exicting. My taste and needs had changed so was like a musical reboot.
22. Mmm...just need to find a body to go with it.
23. Sadly Mark at Limelight has just got back to me to say he can't build me a lefty :-(
