Definitely a Marleaux lookalike. Are you sure its a zero fret and not just a painted fret line like the rest of the neck? Looks that way to me.

The colour combo may be one not produced outside of Japan. I've been looking at Fender mij basses for a while and there are many more colour options. The knobs are definitely wrong. Should be flat-top knurled chrome ones.

I bought a 1/2 size db to learn on ( being small) but was dissatisfied by the lack of presence and the physicality of what I imagined an upright should be. I moved it on quite swiftly and hope to find a more suitable instrument for my needs.

I'd like to see you re-consider adding truss-rod covers. I think they add a touch of class.

Very unusual and all the extras make it rather special. Might be a bit heavy to sit on the top of the xmas tree though!

Well, I bought some because when I had my bass re-painted I thought the existing plastic wires were pretty flimsy and fragile. It was only on closer inspecyion of where the wiring connect to the actual pups that I realised a change-over was not straightforward.

Interesting that you have gone from almost getting a beat-up relic jazz to buying a 'as new' looking reissue, albeit a very cool example. Hope it's a keeper :-)

I have two J basses. One strung with rounds and one with flats. I like to switch between depending on the feel I have in my head for a tune.They both get outings to rehearsals. I prefer rounds on my P bass with the tone rolled back.

I would experiment and have someone make a gold-coloured pickguard. Would really set off the maple neck.

I would like to replace the pickup wires on my jazz bass with cloth wiring. Is this a possible D.I.Y. task or does it need done by a professional?

When I played bass in a wedding band I used to take the main vocal for around ten tunes to give the singer a rest or a break off stage. Guitarist sang some too. Made sense when playing for several hours but not every band can be so versatile.
