  1. Just got one of these and I'm not going to read the whole thread over again, so apologies if this has been covered. What hardware do I need to do the updates, and what other uses would it have? Bear in mind, the only thing I know about all this stuff can be written on my thumbnail with a roller.
  2. Nice post, Ped. I'm afraid I'd have gone with 'the best thing about it is the colour - burn it.' I've a Harley Benton here (acquired off this very forum) that retails not far north of a hundred quid. I've changed the strings and can't put it down, it's not just 'good for a cheapy', it's a properly useful instrument. Strange how the beginner's market has improved by whole orders of magnitude, yet still manages to remain something of a minefield.
  3. This may possibly be the single-most British thing I've ever read.
  4. It's worth chucking a set of strings at it first, if the pickup's been hit then it's more than likely the string took some of the impact. Check for obvious things like cracks in the magnet at the bottom of the pup (if visible, of course!) or pole pieces moved. '
  5. That's more than likely to do with the performance of the cell than anything, the times are simply converted from the voltage readings. Some cells can have steeper drop-offs than others, so try a different brand or chemistry if it keeps happening. Mine's been really accurate so far, I always run it on Philips alkalines 'cos that's what the nearest shop sells!
  6. Don't have a link, but just about every hardware outlet will have a set of 4 plastic automotive trim tools for about 3-6 quid. Stubborn push-fit tone knobs are a memory.
  7. 'Bassist among the Veg' would have accurately described a couple of bands I've been in. Has Lee since posted about meeting the illustrious HappyJays?
  8. Isn't .47 micro the usual Fender cap?
  9. I keep waiting for a cheery, yet confusing explanation of Modes from the one on the left.
  10. Don't forget Youtube can spoil you occasionally, I went on to watch fellow Welshists Dream State and it immediately threw The Blue Stones, Blacktop Mojo, The Amazons, Devilskin, Evergrey and the new Simon Mcbride EP at me all at once. How the hell Evergrey have never crossed my path before I'll never understand. Still, it gives me 10 albums to catch up on, I suppose!
  11. There's a good way round this, if anyone asks me to borrow my rig I just hand them a 9 quid DI box and watch the confusion. Sometimes if they've managed to irk me in some other way I 'forget' to put the battery in. Ain't I a stinker?
  12. Damn fine reason to buy a wireless!
  13. Buy some wee magnets from the tintrawebs and have fun with a drill and glue.
  14. Not bass related, but this afternoon I went out to get a new 3/8" ratchet. I didn't get one, but (and I'm really not sure how, exactly) I now own a van.
  15. I get this every now and then, but these are always the times I end up sounding best in the mix. Go figure!
  16. Can't speak for 1024s as I've not played one, but a lot of Yammy hardware seems (to my eyes at least) to bear quite the resemblance to unbranded Gotoh kit, so maybe have a look down that road.
  17. I can confidently say I won't be inflicting any Boss Hoare films on the world any time soon.
  18. I have a 5 string in that colour, and now a black pickguard has gone on my list of stuff that I somehow need to spend money on. Thanks for that.
  19. Or I could update the thread next time I buy a brew, thus generating chapter headings in my fictional biography The Evolution of...
  20. I don't think I'll be going with Prestatyn That-van-that-goes-round-the-units if I'm honest.
  21. It's hard not to concede the point for having nothing more to say, though. ...*puts on best Basil Rathbone voice*... Get yer rocks off, get yer rocks off, honey Shake 'em, now-now, get 'em off downtown Get yer rocks off, get yer rocks off, honey Shake 'em now-now, get 'em off downtown. Now that's the finest pondering of the human condition right there.
  22. I haven't used the USB on mine at all, I run it on the 9v as extending the cables on them is daft easy, and I already had one. I also simply don't trust micro USB sockets to hold any cable weight.
