Wow, that Zoom's completely passed me by. Looks awesome. I think I might nab one of those and see how I get along with it. I love my Boss ME20b but if this does it all but with a smaller footprint it might be a winner! Alex

MXR looks good! Not sure the Fishman has enough options for me and not keen on using rack gear. I really wish SFX did a Thumpinator with a little EQ on it also. He probably could but I couldn't afford to commission one! Cheers guys Alex

FM Cables make some of the best quality cables you'll find anywhere. Endorsed by Yolanda Charles and Dave Swift, no less! Pricey, but you'll never need another one. Truckstop

Looks a bit pricey for me too; thanks for the suggestion though! Alex

As above really. Are there any alternatives to the Boss or is it pretty much the standard? Looking for something to help reduce really low bass frequencies in difficult rooms (looking to cut the 65hz completely) while also looking to make use of it's EQ functions for different songs and playing styles etc. Truckstop

In my opinion the best Multi-fx on the market. Easy to use, great sounding effects (except the synths), small, well built, no tone suck and a very handy piece of kit if you want lots of effects without lugging around a massive board of separates. I have one, and if I had money I'd buy this one so I had a spare! Truckstop

Yeah the NE-1 Parametric EQ was also a very handy piece of kit. I love Yamaha stuff and would seriously look at an up to date amplifier and cab. Truckstop

John Myung used to have the RBX signatures. John Patitucci and John Petrucci are two different people Truckstop

I used to have an SVT115E and found it a bit underwhelming. I found I needed to boost the mids a lot so ended up with a sound that I didn't really like that much. It seemed to boost a certain bass frequency that was quite muddy and indistinct. Would happily recommend the Hartke Hydrive 115 though. Have seen a local band that uses one and always sounds terrific! Someone's selling one on this forum for a few hundred quid I think. Truckstop

what's the worst thing that's happened to you onstage?

Once played a shithole in Ruislip. As if that weren't bad enough, halfway through the second set some bloke that'd been pestering the punters and the staff all night ran onto the stage and started strangling the singer. Our Terry used to run a betting shop in Luton so handled himself quite well. Truckstop Nb. Needless to say, we didn't miss a beat. -
I'd take cover if I were you, pal! Truckstop

Well that's your first gig over and done with!! You'll do better next time and I'm sure the audience didn't notice. Chin up!

Yeah surely you'd just need to de-tune the E to Eb? Couple of seconds with a tuner? Truckstop

In case anyone was interested, I got around to sorting this out a couple of months ago. I bought two Eminence Deltas (350w, 16ohms) for around £105 (including delivery) from BlueAran, fitted them and seem to work perfectly. Sadly ended up misplacing/throwing away the original speakers so couldn't compare them visually to see if they're the same. Lovely vintage-y tone. It's really bass heavy so I have to cut the bass on the amp a lot so as not to swamp the stage but otherwise quite a distinct and satisfying sounding cab. Boost the mids and the cab reacts well. Not too honky, just plenty of presence and cut. Hope this helps anyone! Truckstop -
Well, yeah. It's just a Pre, isn't it? Truckstop

I don't really like learning anything anymore! Of course I have to learn songs for the covers group so I give the song a few listens and then pick up a chord chart. We rehearse the songs and make them our own. I prefer to sit and listen to the sort of music I wish I had the patience and skill level to learn. Truckstop

For the last few months I've used a 4-banger tuned BEAD. We shift keys a lot and it makes it much easier to transpose. Don't miss the G at all, we play a lot of pop and funk so don't need it! However, if a BB425x turned up for sale at the right price I'd probably buy one just so I have more options. Truckstop
-
Current range includes the BB424, the BB1024 and the BB2024. 400 range is the cheapest, 1000 range in the middle with a few improvements in hardware and electronics and the 2000 range top dollar and competes with CS Fenders, Sadowsky etc. 'x' suffix denotes pickguard. 5 strings have a '5' at the end instead of a '4'. Modern range all passive. The best BB's are from the 80's I'd say. Just because everyone knows that vintage basses are better than new ones(!) They're all just so good! Comfy body shape, excellent build quality, best components and a terrific super-P tone all for less than a Fender. I'd certainly never bother with a Fender again when I know that the definitive P is made by Yamaha! Truckstop

Over-priced and over-rated dogshit. The only reason anyone would ever buy one over another brand is purely because they want a Fender in their hands. Even the US ones don't provide much over competing brands of a lower price point. All the CEO has to do is keep Fenders in the public eye and the jobs done. No need to worry about actually making instruments that sound, look and play better than other brands. People buy Cadillacs because they're cool cars. Not because they're better than BMW, Audi, Lexus or Mercedes. Nothing wrong with it of course; I'm just saying that these days in brand identity that gets the sales; not the product itself! Truckstop

I wouldn't be convinced that switching to a shorter scale would make much difference. Regardless of how small the bass is, if you have poor technique then you'll always aggravate tendonital problems. Do you warm up/stretch before you play? Are your wrists and shoulders straight? Is the weight of your bass evenly distributed across your shoulders? Have you tried playing gigs sat down? Loads of stuff you can try before spending out on a new instrument! Truckstop

Hello Pal, welcome to the forum! Get thee to a local jam night (advertised on Lemonrock etc) and join in. You'll meet loads of interesting people and learn much more than you would if you stay in all day running scales. Everyone here's very knowledgeable so don't forget to ask if you need information with regards to gear, theory or life! Alex
