1. I quite like the bass sound actually, I find it raw, individual and I find it's nakedness quite refreshing. Most bands just record the bass part and turn it into a subby mush. Sounds like the drums and the bass are playing different songs though. I feel that that either the drums or the bass needs to be a lot straighter to allow more space for the other. Truckstop
2. POWER!!!
3. I always have a pack of spare strings (ready trimmed to length!) on top of the amp for every single gig. I take a back-up bass to decent gigs because it obviously takes less time to plug in a replacement than faff around changing a string. I've never ever had a failure or string breakage in hundreds of gigs. But my dad always says that there's a first time for everything! Truckstop
4. Excellent! I've saved your details, will be in touch in the new year. Happy to support a BCers business Cheers Alex
5. Well, I did look already at hiring additional PA stuff for larger gigs but then we'd end up spending £300 and still wouldn't have a clue how to rig it up efficiently or make us sound half decent. AND move it all about! TBH £250 sounds well alright actually. It'd only be for a few months until we could afford our own top spec PA. We really would need everything: subs, tops, monitors, stands, cables, mics etc Truckstop
6. Hello all, So I'm in a band and we haven't got any money to get started on the PA ladder. We've got a little powered mixer and a couple of passive 12" tops and that's it. Suitable for small pubs, but with bigger gigs on the horizon we'd be looking for something that the whole band could go through. None of us have experience with live sound either so we were wondering about the ins and outs of teaming up with a man with PA for large, self contained gigs (weddings, functions and the like). How much could we be expected to pay? What are the pros and cons? Cheers! Alex
7. Sounds to me like your PA paid for itself ages ago. Just take the money and chalk it up to experience! It's really not worth the hassle is it? It's not thousands of pounds worth of gear, there's no contract, it's not life and death, just get it dealt with so you can both move on. Truckstop
8. Wow, what a lovely story! Welcome to Basschat! Truckstop
9. What a horrible piece of crap. Truckstop
10.
LaBella Steels.
+1 They feel great! Truckstop
11. Current rig is Peavey Max 700 and Hughes & Kettner 4x10. Fed up with class D amps and lightweight cabs not really being able to hit the sweet spot. They 'sound' loud without actually being loud if you know what I mean? I'm not saying volume's everything; but even at low volumes my Peavey Max sounds better than the TC Electronic and GK class D amps I've owned. Unfortunately the 4x10 is a little TOO heavy! For sale on this forum. Truckstop
12. Hello all, Selling my H&K 410H cab. Sounds incredible but too heavy and large for the shows I'm doing at the moment. 600w @ 8ohms. It is quite a bulky 4x10 but I guess that's what makes it sound so good. Unreal volume capabilities and keeps everything nice and clean at high volumes. Switchable tweeter with three switchable levels (and off/on). I'm not a fan of tweeters so I kept it off, however I have tested it and it works as it should. It's a bit untidy but sound as a pound. It'll need collecting from St. Albans because it'd cost too much to post due to weight and size. I'm happy to deliver a reasonable distance for petrol money. Cheers Alex edit: the pictures make it look as if it has castors; it doesn't! It's my trolley. 13. Hello Pal, Where are you based? Cheers Alex
14. If you're gigging and earning money then so what? I regularly dep for a band with a terrible singer and I really don't look forward to the gigs but it's money innit? Maintain your professional pride with the other band and just deal with the second one. Truckstop
15. As President of the St. Albans Ibanez Blazer Fan club I think I should have it. But I don't have any money My heart aches sorely every time I think of my old Blazers. I sincerely wish I had never sold my '84. Great bass in every way! Truckstop
16. My god, how loud do you play? Something is seriously wrong with how you EQ! A common trick is to completely cut the VLF and VLE filters and work from there. All they do is scoop the EQ. Truckstop
17. Hello all, Selling my Turbo Rat because I don't use grit anymore Makes a terrific noise! Not terribly bass friendly but certainly has it's uses with a voice all of it's own. Gets extremely filthy and extremely loud. Responds really well to dynamic playing especially with a pick. It comes with a 9v adaptor. Now £35 posted! Bank transfer only please and no trades. Alex
18. But some people need to be told how to have fun! Truckstop
19. I had one for a while but found the string spacing a little to big for me; moved to an RBXJM1. The JM simply couldn't match for tone though. Great B, so much power and extremely tweakable EQ. Great basses! Truckstop
20. Try using a plectrum and use your wrist to mute the strings. Although I would say that it's riffs like this that make 5-stringers essential for a lot of disco/funk! Truckstop
21. It's really tough mate. You've just got to somehow link with a person that really digs what you're trying to do and hit it off with. Once you're a duo with the same ideas, you'll find it a lot easier to put songs together and attract others to the band. Good organisation from the bandleader also helps maintain interest from the other members. Regular emails with updates, room booking info and mp3's will help to clarify everything and get everyone on the same page. Cut the chaff! If there's guys not pulling their weight or showing much interest, you gotta move them on ASAP. Good luck! Truckstop
22. Sell it and buy something else. Basses are only possessions! Try everything! IMO if an instrument doesn't sound right for you, then why bother trying to make it right for you? Truckstop
