Wow. If that's really what it looks like, there's a reason there are only two strings on it; string it properly and it'll probably turn into a heap of splinters.

The nut is the only potential problem IMO, and (as Sambrook says) you might find that it isn't an issue. Replacing a nut should be reasonably easy, but if you're not comfortable doing it a luthier should be able to do it fairly cheaply.
