Iconic bass-lines for aspiring bass players!
Lozz196 replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Got it, and it’s not to be read until I retire, when my aim will be to learn a new Motown song every week. -
Try a Behringer BDI21, it’s a good piece of kit at not much money at all.

Would a squire MIJ pbass be as good/better than a MIM fender pbass?
Lozz196 replied to Hugh1245's topic in General Discussion
Yup, Squier Silver Series are very well regarded, I personally think the Korean Squiers are much better than their price tags would suggest. But, in agreement with the others I would be checking out the black Precision first, looks much better. -
Our facilities company now uses AI to schedule its engineers: I log a job for a leaking tap. AI assigns the nearest engineer to attend. Who is an electrician. Who says it now needs to be referred to a plumber. Which is what I did when logging a job for a leaky tap.

They’re very decent basses

That’s a shame Dave, but great there’s still the glam band to keep you in the gigging world.

Just got in from a Spacewasters gig in Wingham, Kent (a 100 mile journey which the drummer did). Was a sort of private party, it went well, 3 bands on with us 2nd though we left as soon as we’d finished due to the possibility of snow. I played my CIJ Mustang bass through the provided - I think - Harley Benton combo, probably a 1x12 but was fine for on stage sound. My footwear was my winter DM Chelsea boots. We did encounter snow though thankfully wasn’t too bad til we hit Watford dropping off the guitarist.

On the hunt for a work horse p bass under £130
Lozz196 replied to FretsOnFire's topic in Bass Guitars
For the budget available I’d look at a Harley Benton from Thomann, their instruments get favourable reviews. -
It wants your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle 🕶️

I’m sure it will be loud enough, but the depth of the sound will more than likely not be as full. Whether or not that makes any difference to you and your enjoyment of the gig, well that’s up to you, but you have the PA to handle the audience, utilise the monitors for more on stage sound and travel light.

As above, all those will fit the bill nicely
-
I’ve had a couple of 2 x 112 setups, as well as many 410s, didn’t really find that much difference between them. In your situation Dave I’d look for another OBC112, much easier to have 2 smaller/lighter cabs to cart about.

Yeah I used to be one of those bassists that needed fresh zing for my sound, when using Rotosound strings it was a new set every 3/4 weeks, swapped to Warwick Reds and that changed to 8/10 weeks. Now in a different band a set of Elixirs last me about a year, much more wallet friendly.

Nice looking set up there

Same here, whatever basses I play I try for the same sound and play the same material, better that I play what I have and appreciate it more.

Not many real highlights for me, probably the best was Slash’ blues album Orgy of The Damned. Never really been into blues but this is a good album.

Given its small size & lack of weight but great power it’s worth looking at a Markbass CMD121P.
-
Great crowd @cheddatom

I’m in, I have a bass on way but it was purchased early December. I really need to move some gear on this year rather than buy more.
-
Def a need for Carlos Fandango Wide Wheels!!
-
Same for me, we’ve a great singer and 2 really good guitarists, me & the drummer do our jobs so those 3 can shine.

I hope all is well, she did seem to be struggling a bit, hopefully just taking some time away from the norm.
-
She did put up a few posts in another thread in Nov in Off Topic, may account for the no-shows but think I`ll message just to make sure all ok. Well done for noticing @Woodinblack

Alternatives to Hipshot Ultralite tuners for a Fender bass?
Lozz196 replied to fretmeister's topic in Repairs and Technical
For me personally it’s not so much about overall weight but more weight distribution. Reducing the headstock weight by - in the case of my bass - 176g makes the instrument balance better and drag less on my shoulder. Principal of levers and all that a reduction of 176g at the end of a 30” scale instrument is more noticeable than the same reduction in your hand. -
Thinking about this in greater depth, I don`t really do that much in my gigging band. Unlike many on here I don`t set up PAs, or lights, I don`t contribute to the song-writing, I don`t have anything to do with the merch and cos of my back I don`t gig with an amp so all I take along is my bass. I don`t even print set-lists. I play bass and I do backing vox.
