  1. I’ve recently changed a bit, from Dunlop Tortex Triangle 1mm to Dunlop Ultex Triangle 0.88mm. I find they’re easier to play with and I have more control over the dynamics, essentially I enjoy playing with these picks more.
  2. I had one for a while for the valvey sound & weight, but used a Sansamp for the eq as I couldn’t get what I wanted from it at the time.
  3. Get plenty of cardboard and wrap it around it/tape like a snug fitting box, then do the same with bubble wrap. If possible then find a box that it can go into and fill any space with more bubble wrap/old newspaper etc. If you can’t find a suitable box just do an outer layer of cardboard again.
  4. Same for me, though where in my 21 year old mind I’m leaping all over the stage in reality my 55 year old body is shuffling aimlessly for side to side.
  5. Love that description!
  6. Wowzers, even 30 seconds of that would have convinced me it was Mick Karn had I not read this thread.
  7. Thanks, it was the Rag n Bone Man song.
  8. I’ve no idea what song/band was playing on Radio 2 this morning (about 6:40) but it had a bassline that actually sounded like a bass guitar of all things. Nothing fancy just a decent in the mix sound but given current music it stood out a bit.
  9. Bit road worn but still worth a punt https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Squier-by-Fender-Matt-Freeman-Signature-Precision-Bass-With-Case/333912767986?hash=item4dbec07df2:g:FLsAAOSwxqBgRKvO

    Great collection blyn
  11. Although I`ve learned this the proper way I`ve tinkered around with making it fuller sounding for rock, and the easiest thing is keeping the low E going at the same pace as the other parts of the riff, keeps it driving and fills out nicely.
  12. I learned this a few weeks back via the guy on YouTube, great song and nice to get some funk in the fingers.
  13. I’ve only seen & played a Sire very briefly but I was very impressed with the quality of the instrument. It wasn’t plugged in so no idea of sound but the playability suggested a much larger price tag.
  14. The bass I’d never sell due to sentimental reasons is due to the history & memories I have from it. I’m sure if someone bought me an expensive bass as a milestone present it would also be a non seller, so I’d go for the instrument I really wanted rather than a generic “classic” so in your case get that Status CW.
  15. That’s a good evening in
  16. I really wish I could get to that point. Just as I’m nearing it I get the impulse to buy something new and often find that I don’t like it as much as what I already have.
  17. In an old band I was in the other bassist had a 150w 1x15 TE combo that I’m sure was louder than my Markbass 500w 2x12 set up.
  18. Indeed, even The Sex Pistols in the Matlock years had fluid melodic bass lines.
  19. Think it was a 60s though whichever it had “had a life” to say the least.
  20. Well I’d class them as punk as for me it was more about attitude and energy than a specific formula at start. Later on it did become very set, but look at the early punk bands, Pistols, Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks, Stranglers, X Ray Spex, they’re all very different in sound.
  21. I was fortunate enough a few years back to play the Babylon’s Burning bass. We were in the dressing room and I was drooling over it so Segs said I could have a go on it, very decent chap, and very very decent bass.
  22. We put up videos on YouTube and had a fair few people say they got into the band purely via those, as the vids got linked into those predictive “if you liked” sort of track listings. As such they then came to the gigs and in a good few cases became quite dedicated and well-spending fans. We didn’t get any more gigs to my knowledge as we got asked to do plenty - more than we could actually do - and I can’t honestly say whether the gigs got better paid or not but we certainly got better placings at gigs once the fan base got bigger. I do find it galling to have to give away music but that’s how the business works at present, if we all want to take part then playing the game along the same lines has to make sense. After all, how many people win at pontoon with only one card when every other player has two or more?
  23. Great bassline that
  24. Babylon’s Burning by The Ruts is pretty decent, and worth checking out Booze & Glory - mainly the Chapter IV album - their bassist at the time, Bubbles, was a very busy bassist.
  25. Is the aim to change the sound when the overdrive is on or to keep the core sound. Also do you want a real full on drive or a lesser drive to add in dynamics. If same sound & lesser drive then the TC Spark is worth checking out.
