  1. I get the point re hard cases not being gig-practical, or at least the rectangular ones as I find Hiscox cases are great for gigs. But gig-bags just seem to be more gig-friendly for some reason, I love my Mono M80s, and I invariably top load them.
  2. Have to admit certainly re guitars I preferred my Epiphone SG to the Gibson, about a quarter of the price but just feels so much better to play, hence I sold said Gibbo.
  3. My old one from the initial run said Sterling Ray 34
  4. I exhibit that type of snobbery, but only in regards to myself, I just don’t feel like a “proper” bassist unless I’m using my US Fenders. Which is ridiculous as I’ve seen many pro bassists & guitarists using Mex Fenders, Squiers, Epiphones. It’s just something I can’t seem to get past, however my one justification I can use is that my US ones are better - for me. I enjoy playing the ones I have more than any others, including different ranges of US ones.
  5. Tell all @BassmanPaul, one of the top bands in Liverpool at that time?
  6. Yeah apparently Noel made especially sure to give him a guitar in City colours.
  7. I use the Ultra Low on my SCR-DI, and yes find it just adds more than if I were to make the same adjustments on the eq itself, just seems to tighten it all up nicely.
  8. A very good, fairly niche product made by a small company, I doubt they had any other option. I hope for them it doesn’t signify a slow down on orders.
  9. That’s a rig that I would love, having used one once, but sadly the weight of the cab (and possibly the amp too) is just beyond me now. If I lived in a ground floor property it would be fine but just can’t do that weight & stairs. I found the rig to be plenty loud and just seemed to fit in the right place, as imo Ampeg just does. I’m super envious. Was probably better without the compressor given the natural compression that valve amps have.
  10. I’ve a 13 (and 14 and 15) the necks not super thick, but a good portion shall we say, deep but not too wide. I prefer the 2013 neck to the “holy grail” sized neck of the US Professional which I find a tad slimmer in all dimensions. Pickup wise the Custom Shop 62s are my faves, this vid is probably one of the best illustrations of it.
  11. I hope you gave it back and said it was awful
  12. Yep, that’s why I went down the route of using a preamp/DI pedal. That way I know FOH get what I want them to, and I can then just either enjoy or endure the onstage rig. Fortunately my tone wasn’t bass heavy so not much tweaking for the room was ever required.
  13. I’d be willing to bet that learned the person who made that comment
  14. Punk was great, I’m a major Pistols fan (was 11 in 1977) and to be honest the behaviour & yobbishness wasn’t what excited me, it was the sounds and the look. I’m pretty sure if I’d been 5 years older I’d have been a major Bowie fan.
  15. The only festival I’ve really been to is Rebellion, the punk festival that takes place in Blackpools Winter Gardens every year. Looking at this years line up it doesn’t seem to be much different to the norm.
  16. Those were my feelings when I had one, Dave, good quality basses. If I didn’t have this mental hoodoo about having to play US Fenders the Players would be more than enough for my needs. Only negative thing I’d say is quality control, I had one, which was bought 2nd hand off EBay, ordered two others online and had to return them as there were a couple of issues on the necks (bulges).
  17. Bolt on, just makes me think easier to sort in case of a breakage.
  18. And quite predictably I’ve changed my mind - again! I’m a maple Precision guy, I just find playing the maple neck on a Precision more enjoyable so I’m sticking, as such my signature bass is a black/black/maple US Fender Precision (good job I’ve got 3 then).
  19. Phil Lynott also apparently stuck around frets 5 to 8 when playing from what I’ve read. Whether or not it’s true I don’t know as never tried to learn any TL material.
  20. I used to be the same with Rotosounds but found it a tad expensive so switched to Warwick Reds, got nearly 3 months from them before they dulled down too much.
  21. Classic case of reacting on the offensive rather than listening & learning re the points stated. As is ever, better dodged at this point than later on.
  22. Probably his awareness that if he’s playing low once the guitar solos there’s a bit of a gap, whereas playing up a bit that gap isn’t quite so pronounced. Clever chap John Deacon, I watched some of it too and was impressed when it came to said solos how it didn’t seem to empty out.
  23. Shame though must admit he was older than I thought, I reckoned on them all being about 5 years older than me so early 60s.
  24. They’re not set up vertically Bill……
