  1. Why one for each band, well I like to have a main for gigs with an exact same backup kept at home in case of failure/theft and then a cheaper backup for gigs. So using the exact same backup for the band that doesn’t gig means it at least gets used and doesn’t just sit in a case. I’m frighteningly complicated.

    Amp shortages

Yeah I waited ages for one
  3. That’s a good accident to have, Clarky
  4. I think that extends to anyone/everyone, sadly
  5. No you’re right, I saw this mentioned on the story of Top of The Pops 1997, was rather surprised to be honest
  6. Definitely. Whenever I let other bassists use my gear that’s one of the first things I tell them, no drinks on my amp.
  7. Difficult to see a way forward on that aspect
  8. I really hope that this year I can watch it all the way through. I try every year but just get disheartened by the Europop so given your thoughts @Doctor J maybe this will be the year for me. Edit - I’ve just seen Anna’s for the final and it didn’t look half bad.
  9. They`re a lot twangier, and quite a bit more scooped sounding Dave. In fact there aren`t many other traditional flats that I think they sound like.
  10. Our guitarist used to use the Xvive U2 wireless system, so as the WL20 would scan for the best frequency to use I`d wait for him to get sorted, then plug mine in, it then apparently would avoid the frequency he was at, or at least that`s how I understand it, but whatever the science behind it all they never interfered.
  11. I used one from about Sep 2018 to Dec 2019 on a weekly basis, both rehearsals and gigs, never any issues at all. I`ve still got it and it still works so although they say that once the battery goes that`s it, bin time, it seems that the battery will take a lot of recharging before finally giving up. We also used to play some pretty big stages and the only time I had a very minor problem was when one of the security staff stood with his foot virtually on it, so stopped the signal intermittently.
  12. As much as I love Ashdown amps I think going by looks that the Peavey appears to have been looked after better so may well be the better option.
  13. But at least you have 84 basses to keep you company….
  14. The lead guitar on the outro of Wuthering Heights is one of my all time fave pieces of musicianship.
  15. Great album, result getting those!
  16. Love that Gibson Les Paul bass
  17. So, many years on from when this thread started and glad to say that my fave bass is still a US Fender Precision.
  18. I love gigging, but have found that I need to get the right balance. My last band was pretty full-on, gigging most weekends with sometimes gigs both Fri & Sat, and these gigs were all over the UK and in Europe. Whilst it was great I just wasn’t getting enough rest & recuperation time. So I’m now in a band that does about 10 gigs a year, which suits me much better.
  19. Yep, my name is Lozz and I have a ‘burst/rosewood/tort Precision.
  20. And if you listened to Talkbass as well said Precision would have tort (it’s the law round there)
  21. Luckily our drummer is more than up to the job. The only downside to him is his kit, it’s enormous and takes forever to load/unload and set up/break down. But he’s like a human metronome, and has nailed all of them really well.

    Ashdown CTM100

I’m surprised about that, I’m sure there was a dedicated thread on here about where someone said it really opened the amp up.
  23. I’ll bet that’s a combination that sounds great - what bass were you using with it?
  24. Yeah it will be difficult, the guy who used to work at our rehearsal studio said either a young guy who still has the ability to go high or a girl with a strong voice would be our best choices. Chances are unlikely on either, given if we did gig it would be two or three max per year I can’t see someone who is able to sing those songs properly not wanting to be gigging regularly.
  25. Many moons ago - about 35 - the band I was in dropped to D and I used 50 - 110 Roto steels for that. My bass had been strung with the “standard” 45 - 105s that came with it but they were just too floppy, the music shop recommended the Rotos and they worked fine.
