New Bass Day! My First New Bass Since 2010!
Lozz196 replied to BenTunnicliffe's topic in Bass Guitars
That is beautiful Ben -
Agree, and given the quality of other brands at similar - and indeed lower - prices, it can and is being done, so there should be no excuses.

Buying New Fenders In 2022 - Where & How To Try Them?
Lozz196 replied to BenTunnicliffe's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice one Ben, glad it worked out well for you -
Just got in from my Spacewasters gig at The Escape Bar in Shepherds Bush. Nice venue, parking in the road next to it, proper storage area for equipment, decent stage, provided backline and turned out I knew the guys running the gig and sound, and the headline band as well. All of this made for what we hoped would be a good gig and it was. The provided bass amp sounded great but cut out a few times, however as I was DI’d from my Sansamp it was only the band that noticed. We played well, had a good few people (mainly ladies) dancing, which is an achievement in itself when you’re playing originals. Turns out the guys running the evening loved us so looking forward to a return. Oh and am already in, having just had a free Double Cheeseburger from McDonalds courtesy of my points from the app. Life be good!

My ideal would be an Ashdown ABM600 in BC a preamp/DI pedal, lose the compression & sub-harmoniser, if possible add a tuner (tho not essential). Keep the 9-band eq & valve drive. @Ashdown Engineering, please humour me and make one!

Great looking bass

That’s a beauty

It’s amazing how good a Precision is in the mix isn’t it @TrevorG, on its own it can sound a tad uninspiring but they just fit into so many genres so well.
-
The Yamaha should be fine for what you’re doing but until you’ve played/got a Precision you’ll never really know and it will forever be lurking in your mind. As such get Precision hunting.
-
Definitely, that’s why I love my Ashdown ABM600, on those big stages it still delivers a big powerful sound. Some amps are loud enough on those stages but the sound gets thinned down, the ABM retains its “bigness”.

Seems to be sorted! - Getting a bass from North Norfolk to Brighton?
Lozz196 replied to SamIAm's topic in General Discussion
If it can be got to near me (Hemel Hempstead, J8 on M1) I’m happy to drive it to Cobham Services on M25 (between Junctions 10 & 9). -
I went Sandberg, tho I do think that the Stingray on slap would probably stand out better in the mix of a full line-up band.
-
Edit - Spacewasters (punky psychobilly) on at The Escape Bar, Shepherds Bush/London on Saturday 08 October.

Great looking rig Kevin, I think if I were still in my old band I may well have decided on a couple of those cabs as well.

I saw The Sex Pistols there and the sound was amazing. Saw Velvet Revolver there and they started with the first track off of their 2nd album, an album which had been pretty much in constant play in my car since it came out. I only recognised the song once it got to the chorus, the sound was just muffled & echoey. And it’s not like any of the band are renowned for having sounds like that.

He got a nice amp and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, that be one lucky guy!

I’ll get my water-wings

Well the 20 replicates the sound of a cable in the chain so if anything I’d expect that the 20L would be the clearer/brighter sounding one. Given you’re now on a passive bass, which are usually not as bright as active ones I don’t think swapping to the 20 from the 20L would be the best move.

Worst cover version (by competent musicians)

As much as I hate to say it Booze & Glory’s cover of Elton Johns I’m Still Standing is pretty rotten. -
We played that stage in 2016, didn’t know what to expect as it was an Introducing Stage but were very pleasantly surprised, both with the size of the stage and of the audience, 4:30 on a Friday afternoon and it was packed.

I don’t think I ever saw the careers officer at school, absolutely no recollection of it. At first I wanted to be an interpreter as was fairly good at languages, then a police officer (did my work experience with them), then quickly progressed to having no clues at all, and am still there at 56. Given I hope to retire within 5 or so years I’m running out of time to think of a dream career. And not going to lose any sleep over it.

Bad Moon Rising

I’m yet to use them in a band environment, Kevin. Both rehearsal rooms I use have provided speakers so I’ve been too lazy to take them along. At home volumes they sound just the same as my old ABM410- EVO-IV though.
-
In my old band I never used my Ashdown ABM600 over about 12 o’clock on volume, and that was when on pretty big stages, admittedly that was for on-stage volume only. Fast forward to my current classic rock band and due to our drummer it’s on about 1 o’clock, and that’s hooked up to an 810 in a rehearsal room. He’s shall we say enthusiastic. But to answer the question that’s when I need the power. Ashdown checked it out for me when I bought it and it peaks at about 3 maybe 4 o’clock so I’m not far from running on full. And if I didn’t have ear-plugs I think I’d be doing serious and permanent damage to my ears.

Do I suspect this is where piehole had its first outing?
