As well as vinyl, which I love, I'm also a big consumer of digital downloads for use with my phone when out and about. But having said that, I'm getting increasingly aware of increasingly not taking the time to just sit and listen. Vinyl is by far my preferred format for music when just sitting.

A vintage synth engineer who gave them a service one day told me that getting sticky fingers (sweat, grease, etc) on the circuitry can contribute to tuning instability, so worth bearing in mind when fiddling around inside. I also had the microswitch job done on mine before selling. Pretty much essential on this piece of kit at its current age. £1800 sounds like the top end of the market for a T3, I've seen them on eBay for £1.2k to £1.3k.

Yeah! They'll really make a difference. If I was in your position, assuming you'd be regularly rehearsing and gigging, I'd go for the Minitaur plus sturdy midi pedals option.

We mostly rehearse in the music room of a nearby girls school where one of the guys is a music tech, another has his kids there. Which is great as it's free, has PA, drum kit and backline permanently set up, but we don't get much time each week so momentum is hard to build. We head to a local studio approx once a month to get a bit more done.

Also - the T3s are HEAVY. Really.

I think you have to dial in everything, but here's a list of presets from Moog [url="http://www.moogmusic.com/sites/default/files/MinitaurHardwarePresets_0.pdf"]http://www.moogmusic.com/sites/default/files/MinitaurHardwarePresets_0.pdf[/url] There's no difference in setup times between T1 and T3, by the way. Before I got my T1, I used the Novation/midi pedals option. Analog synthesis is a bit of a dark art but you get the hang of it after a bit of twiddling, and I got a fairly good approximation of the classic Taurus sound (which is what you hear on Don't Stand So Close To Me, for example)

They occasionally crop up on eBay for somewhere around £1.2k to £1.7k. Moog have stopped production so they're getting a bit rarer. Alternatives are: Moog Taurus 1 (which Sting used, you can see them on clips of the reunion tour), Moog Taurus 2, which were never as popular. Or get a set of midi pedals (eg Roland PK-5) and a bass synth like a Novation BassStation or the new Moog Minitaur, which is a Taurus in a box.

I switched from musicguard as my cover exceeded some threshold of theirs that required extra security to an unreasonable degree for a normal domestic setup. Cheaper items are covered on the household insurance.

When I stopped smoking I put the money I didn't spend on fags towards a new bass. After a year or so I got a Stingray fretless 3-band EQ in Burnt Apple.

I see them now and again on the tube, but best to avoid rush hours. Some favour those cases you get with wheels on, which probably makes life easier. And there's a lift at most central stations these days as well. Having said that, and speaking as an electic bassist - in the topsy-turvy world of commuting with a bass, having a good solid piece of Fender or Rickenbacker in your hand is often useful.

Yeah JB is definitely on Over The Top, I've got it on vinyl downstairs. The opening "Theme 1" is killer. Pretty sure it doesn't have Bilbo's song on it though.
