1.
blimey its a tough crowd on BC, i just thought the record was good
It's a great album, I still have my vinyl copy from 198-mumblemumble, and it's part of small but selct group that accompany me when I go to demo new turntables. (Probably happened three times since then, tbh)
2.
Funny you have posted this track - I have been trying to play this bassline and getting it wrong for nearly thirty years now . It's harder than it first appears . Great line from as very capable player . I once heard Trevor Horn say that Mark O'Toole was a clever player , and this track really shows that .
The main groove is transcribed here: http://basslessons.be/transcriptions.php?i=31 - looks good to me. And yes it's harder than it sounds!
3.
Dunno if it's still going (been a heck of a long time!) but there used to be a venue on the cromwell road. Was called the Orange, but later changed to West One Four. Probably a sainsbury's or something now
I think it's been some else as well since West One Four. Turtle Something or Something Carrot springs to mind. It's now called Black Velvet, see http://www.blackvelvetlondon.co.uk/. It's on North End Road which connects Cromwell Road to Hammersmith Road. I played there in 199-something when it was still the Orange. A good venue but the load in is up a flight of stairs that turns a corner mid-way up, ouch.
4. Tickets on sale now for selected venues: http://yesworld.com/ (plus the whole list of venues for the UK tour)
5. New singer Jon Davison is previously (still?) from Glass Hammer, and was once in Yes tribute Roundabout. Here's the first youtube I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4NU0ed5bDY Better than Benoit, but it's not Jon is it. And with no Rick either, it's increasingly not-Yes. It all got a bit silly with the revolving door of band members, so I suspect I might have seen my last Yesshow. Unless they bring back Patrick Moraz!
6. Funnily enough most of the screen time goes to the two girls. Didn't they realise that in 40 years time bass geeks would be on the lookout? http://www.youtube....h?v=0XPiUGtdIzk And can some kind soul enlighten me as to how to embed youtube clips?
7.
Rutger second only to macca for amount of songs sold with their bass playing onboard?
There were some great shots of him on stage with his gorgeous Ikea-finish Jazz bass (probably Eurovision)
8. Did you see Frida's look backstage when they were discussing Agnetha's sexy bum? Face like a slapped...
9. Sounds great and (apart from the hole) looks great, but I'd get it clagged up with so much finger cheese. Probably find a nest of starlings in there one day.
10. 11. Apparently it was this lady, who was part of the string section on at the time: https://twitter.com/filmmusicholt Her other band, the Raven Quartet, were quick to defend their bandmate in a show of sisterly solidarity from https://twitter.com/ravenquartet: Just to clarify…. The other 3 of us were working elsewhere today and found out when you did. 21hr We were as surprised as all of you. about 32 minutes ago 22 hr
12. Repeated Saturday at 1am, for those reading this thread at 10.30. (me)
13. Easy, think of the band name before you start recruiting members.
14. Glad to hear it was a blast - Didn't see them this time, several reasons: I was second row at the O2 for the Time Machine show, which would have been hard to beat; I missed the fan club presale time by about 30sec, which meant all the decent seats had gone. I'm not a huge Power Windows fan (nor Clockwork Angels fan come to think of it), but it would have been good to see Manhattan Project - otherwise there's not much standing out in the setlist for me that I've not seen before (http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/rush/2013/o2-arena-london-england-13d9b595.html - with obv spoiler warning). I'll be more on the ball tickets-wise when it comes to the R40 tour next time around.
15. I think a world without Ray Manzarek is worse off than a world with him in it. That's a loss if you ask me.
16. I like Carter best sometimes. Other times I like Bonzo best. Oh no what shall I do
17. I played at Bestival and SGP last year. I'll do it. They still do Been Caught Stealing right?
18. My new band - Velcro Pelmet** - is doing its first gig on Sunday night, May 19 at the New Cross Inn. Exciting times. We do 60s/70s/80s jazz-rock standards/covers/interpretations, so expect some music you may have originally heard by Weather Report, Billy Cobham, Zappa, Miles, etc. Sign up at http://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet for more details and to keep up with future developments. ** named after a soft furnishings incident in a north Devon caravan park
19. I used to use Musicguard, but their requirements became too restrictive so I switched to New Moon. They're really cool to deal with over the phone and get the needs of reular giggers. I took their "Harmonic" cover, which includes unattended in-vehicle cover (assuming you've left the vehicle properly secured with gear out of sight)
20.
So.... I just wondered - what would bassists wear on their t-shirts?
Ketchup, usually. The Scott Pilgrim bass t-shirt is the best:
21.
No Cinema Show? What a rip off.
Yeah, he only played the easy ones
22.
Pomeroy's playing was uniformly excellent and that Shergold double neck (actually it's a custom build by Chris Richards - great article here http://www.3rguitars...twin%20neck.htm ) sounded really nice.
Cool. Thanks for the link! So it's a custom body with original Shergold necks? And I thought *something* was up when I clocked the obviously non-Shergold pickups on the bass side.
23. Other special guests: Nik Kershaw (!) singing and Steve Rothery guitaring on The Lamia, Jakko Jakszyk singing on Entangled. I think Ray Wilson (also ex-Genesis) is lined up for the Royal Albert Hall show later this year. In the audience were Genesis/Gabriel photographer/biographer Armando Gallo and everyone's favourite Absolute Radio 70s DJ Richard Skinner. Favourites from last night were Moonlit Knight, Heirophant, and the proper ending of Dance On A Volcano (as it happen on A Trick Of The Tail)
