1. I was once given one of these It's erm a thing to put a bottle of wine in. It went on eBay
 2. Probably 12" of Bowie's punctuation-heavy "Heroes"/"Helden" b/w "Heroes"/"Héros" runners-up: JAMMs "Whitney Joins The JAMMs" promo Dread Zeppelin "Un-Led-Ed" picture disc LP PMac "We All Stand Together" pic disc 7"

 4.
Why has this thread gone on past this post?
I'm still trying to process "...in his own modest way..."
 5.
I have tried to listen to his playing objectively, but its just not my thing, just a bundle of notes really
Listen to any music objectively and it's just a bundle of notes.
 6.
Argh, I had no idea they were playing!
Me neither - this totally passed me by and I'm usually pretty good at keeping my ear to the ground and/or finger on the pulse.
 7.
You know that 'Standing - by the wall. We kissed as the guns fired over our heads' line. That was Bowie looking out the studio office window and seeing producer Tony Visconti in the street swapping saliva with his girlfriend du jour. True story.
Maybe true story, if you believe that Tone's mistress (girlfriend du jour wasn't Mrs Visconti) claims that "Heroes" was complete by the time the affair started, according to the footnote on the "Pushing Ahead of The Dame" blog entry about the song, http://bowiesongs.wordpress.com/2011/05/11/heroes/ - one of the very few blogs I've seen that is compelling page-turning stuff for the middling-to-serious Bowioid. (If "page-turning" is something you can apply to blogs)
 8.
I saw them at Glynde a couple of weeks ago. It was a baking hot day, I was maybe 5 or 6 rows off the front. The sound was, stella, unreal, awesome, perfect even, a perfect match fo rthe band. Well chuffed to have been able to see them when the crew and the kit was all working like one beautiffuly well oiled machine. Cant believe the stories of Hyde Park, how rubbish is that, I'd have demanded my money back....
There was a bit of a delay getting Chic going at Love Supreme - can't remember exactly what the problem was though. But otherwise as you say, it was a fantastic performance. Best set of the day.
 9. It's just one bloke's opinion. Heroes is a brilliant album. So is Low, also Lodger. Scary Monsters as well for the first 6 tracks. But my favourite current Bowie instrumental is Crystal Japan. I only discovered it last week, it's an outtake from Scary Monsters and appears on the All Saints compilation album of instrumentals. It's on Spotify: David Bowie – All Saints
 10.
Knocking On Heavens Door! Jeeez I was in my motor and on my way by then, thankfully.....
I'm now calm enough to mention the two encores... Sam And Dave's "Hold On I'm Coming", and Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up". Great songs each, but they need a bit of groove and swing in them. BF tried but they really didn't work
 11. Yeah - I've got the BFJO album, and it's nice enough but not Saturday night headline material, The odd early Roxy number was nice, but to follow Remake/Remodel with a snooze cover of Knocking On Heavens Door was criminal. As were the two encores.
 12.
Chic was the best performance I think I've ever seen live, staggeringly good, I was only about 3 rows off the front dead center, and the sound was absolutely spot on too. Brilliant.
Agreed - I was about 10-12 people back from the stage, central, sound was amazing. Mrs Tone wondered why I was getting antsy about getting a good place for Chic, but realised the fuss after the show. Loved the selection of songs as well, and wished they'd had the 15 mins or so more to play the songs from the Glastonbury set that they had to chop. Anyone else think they should have headlined?
 13.
That's EXACTLY what I need too.
Looking at the Herc website, I narrowed it down to these four: http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85317/GS412B/Floor_Stands/Auto_Grab_guitar_stand_with_foldable_backrest http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85317/GS414B/Floor_Stands/Auto_Grab_guitar_stand_with_SFF_on_legs http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85317/GS415B/Floor_Stands/Auto_Grab_guitar_stand_with_foldable_yoke http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85317/GS455B/Floor_Stands/Auto_Grab_Universal_stand Of those, the "Auto Grab guitar stand with foldable yoke" (third one) looks like a winner, assuming it's sturdy enough to hold a bass.
 14. I was there on the Saturday - really enjoyed it, as did the missus, much to my relief! Think the weather had something to do with it. We saw the end of Naturally 7, some of Gogo Penguin, then Soul Rebels, Eric Bibb, Courtney Pine, some of Michael Kiwanuka, Chic, Bryan Ferry. Seen Marcus Miller before so Chic got priority (they were amazing btw). Shame to have missed Snarky Puppy, I've listened to them on Spotify since and wished I'd gone. They're doing a London gig soon in a Hoxton pub but it's £20 to get in. Huh?
 15. Any recommendations for a Hercules stand that packs up really small and my Jazz bass won't fall off?
 16.
But then again, what about a 'tribute' band made up of various ex-members who performed and wrote the songs? - are they a tribute to the name of the band or themselves?
Oh, like Yes you mean
 17. When I was doing the Genesis tribute band circuit, pretty much all "current" and ex members at some point came to see one of the then-active bands. The general feeling one got was that of "thanks for taking the effort to play the music". Steve Hackett once said "I forgot how hard it all was" (regarding an early Genesis trib gig) but was also seen singing along to Land Of Confusion at a latter-period show.
 18.
£84.99 now. I snoozed, I lost!
Wow, £85 for mp3s. Do people really spend that much on downloads?

 20.
Can anyone suggest an album that would be a good place to start for someone new to PT??
I love Up The Downstair and The Sky Moves Sideways, and the live album that followed, Coma Divine. Colin Edwin sounds fantastic on Coma Divine. After that it went downhill and I lost interest. Having said that, I love Steven Wilson's recent solo output and might dip my toe into latter PT.
 21. I considered it, but wasn't terribly enthused by the album tbh - any idea who's in the band?
 22.
How do they get by without the saxes?
Pretty well, but I'm not the best person to ask. I have only ever seen them live, and hardly listened to anything studio recordings. I first saw them with David Jackson in 2005, but didn't really get it. I've seen them three times at the Barbican since, and it's varied from really good (the other night) to brilliant (probably the second of the three shows I've seen there).
 23. Saw them at the Barbican last night, stirring stuff indeed. Among my favourite rhythm sections can be found Guy Evans and Hugh Banton's feet.
