1. Serial Fender gig-bag collector Steve came to collect one of the very same from me - even drove into London and up to the front door of my office! Nice one, easy job.
2. I just clicked on a random year (1967) and looked at January. In one month we've got The Herd, Pink Floyd, John Mayall, Cream, Hendrix, Syn (most of pre-Yes), and (omg) Hendrix AND The Who on the same night.
3. Just found this: http://www.themarqueeclub.net/calendar ...a diary of gigs at the Marquee from the mid-60s to the late 80s. Mind-boggling stuff. Which gigs were you at? I like this, here's September 1982: Wed 22 Twelfth Night Sat 25 Marillion Sun 26 Marillion/Pendragon Mon 27 Genesis Tue 28 Marillion Wed 29 Marillion Thu 30 Marillion
4. All of a sudden I've got a spare ticket for Wednesday's show at Brixton Academy. One of my gig chums has pulled out, but I've got his ticket. PM if you fancy taking if off my hands.
5. I'd use a three finger technique, index for the low note then ring and middle (in that order) for the other two. Not easy to start with, but as everyone's said start slow with whatever feels best for you then work up to speed gradually.
6. Having a clearout, I've discovered an Fender gig bag, looks pretty much like this one from what I can tell: http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Fender_Deluxe_Electric_Bass_Guitar_Gig_Bag/FEN-099-1522-006 It's unused and still tagged. Free to whoever wants it, collection only but I'm ok to meet in south-west, south or central London. PM or email [email protected]
7. This will make your eyeballs bulge... http://www.wimp.com/lownote/
8.
In practice, we are giving up nothing.
Unless you have a preference for the media that delivers the information, which some do. What are you going to put in all that space?
9. As well as vinyl, which I love, I'm also a big consumer of digital downloads for use with my phone when out and about. But having said that, I'm getting increasingly aware of increasingly not taking the time to just sit and listen. Vinyl is by far my preferred format for music when just sitting.
10.
Anyone want a couple of hundred vinyl lps? . Mostly Jazz, Fusion or variants thereof? Free to a good home.
Would love to see a list and maybe take some off your hands, but suspect you're after a quick and easy all-or-nothing job?
11.
The T1's could be pretty unreliable. I had an after market set of triggers fitted which got rid of the no contact no note syndrome. However they were still susceptible to tuning drift etc. They are awesome sounding though.
I never had any tuning trouble with mine. A vintage synth engineer who gave them a service one day told me that getting sticky fingers (sweat, grease, etc) on the circuitry can contribute to tuning instability, so worth bearing in mind when fiddling around inside. I also had the microswitch job done on mine before selling. Pretty much essential on this piece of kit at its current age. £1800 sounds like the top end of the market for a T3, I've seen them on eBay for £1.2k to £1.3k.
12.
I saw that come up. I'm worried that an old one might be unreliable but as you say, it's looks in good shape. I've ordered the 'Certifiable' Police dvd to listen to Sting's on it.
Certifiable is a great watch (it's my go-to disc to show off how good Blu-Ray image quality should be), but I guess you've already seen this... 25m40s in for DSSCTM intro. (and about 29m in for more) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XUW5ZacJD0 I sold my T1 earlier this year - drop me a PM if you want pointers to look out for when buying.
13. Moog Taurus 1 on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=231050460166 Not a bad price - looks in very good nick from the admittedly shaky pics.
14. Yeah! They'll really make a difference. If I was in your position, assuming you'd be regularly rehearsing and gigging, I'd go for the Minitaur plus sturdy midi pedals option.
15. We mostly rehearse in the music room of a nearby girls school where one of the guys is a music tech, another has his kids there. Which is great as it's free, has PA, drum kit and backline permanently set up, but we don't get much time each week so momentum is hard to build. We head to a local studio approx once a month to get a bit more done.
16. I think you have to dial in everything, but here's a list of presets from Moog http://www.moogmusic.com/sites/default/files/MinitaurHardwarePresets_0.pdf There's no difference in setup times between T1 and T3, by the way. Before I got my T1, I used the Novation/midi pedals option. Analog synthesis is a bit of a dark art but you get the hang of it after a bit of twiddling, and I got a fairly good approximation of the classic Taurus sound (which is what you hear on Don't Stand So Close To Me, for example)
17. They occasionally crop up on eBay for somewhere around £1.2k to £1.7k. Moog have stopped production so they're getting a bit rarer. Alternatives are: Moog Taurus 1 (which Sting used, you can see them on clips of the reunion tour), Moog Taurus 2, which were never as popular. Or get a set of midi pedals (eg Roland PK-5) and a bass synth like a Novation BassStation or the new Moog Minitaur, which is a Taurus in a box.
18. I'm with New Moon, everything over £100 is specified separately - see http://www.newmooninsurance.com/musical/. I switched from musicguard as my cover exceeded some threshold of theirs that required extra security to an unreasonable degree for a normal domestic setup. Cheaper items are covered on the household insurance.
19. When I stopped smoking I put the money I didn't spend on fags towards a new bass. After a year or so I got a Stingray fretless 3-band EQ in Burnt Apple.
20. Enter Sandman, thanks to a copy of Guitar For The Practicing Musician I found in a nearby museum
21. I see them now and again on the tube, but best to avoid rush hours. Some favour those cases you get with wheels on, which probably makes life easier. And there's a lift at most central stations these days as well. Having said that, and speaking as an electic bassist - in the topsy-turvy world of commuting with a bass, having a good solid piece of Fender or Rickenbacker in your hand is often useful.
22.
No, they've only ever played as a three piece.
A passing pedant just told me that they were a four-piece for a while in early 1969 when Lindy Young joined the Lee/Lifeson/Rutsey line-up, Jeff Jones having been kicked out not long before in favour of Geddy. Then Geddy was kicked out for a while, and replaced by Joe Perna, and they changed the name of the band to Hadrian. Meanwhile, Geddy forms Ogilvie with Xavier Dangle** and Sammy Roher, and they soon change that band's name to Judd. Judd end up being a lot better than Hadrian, so Lindy Young jumps ship and joins Judd, and Hadrian break up. Judd also break up soon after, and Lee, Lifeson and Rutsey get back together as Rush, again joined by a 4th member, Mitchell Bossi on rhythm guitar. Bossi stays for two or three months then leaves, and Rush are again a three-piece. They change their name to the Originals, then the Regulars, the New Originals, then back to Rush. ** said pedant swears at this point he's not making it up
23.
It was a seller called themadape. It was listed as free shipping worldwide. I also wanted a phase 90, so he combined postage and shipped both for free. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item43b73b485f
Thanks! Saved seller. There's a whole load of stuff there that I'll never need but you know hey free postage it's hard not to.
