Good advice so far... re. the stress point in the previous point, and I don't think it's been mentioned so far, is the importance of being able to hear yourself clearly. A deficiency in the volume and there is a tendency to over-play to make up the difference... Seek out Gary Willis' advice in this area... he plays at high volume, letting the amp do all the heavy lifting but playing with a super-light touch. He has a great exercise where you play a note, reducing the finger pressure until it 'frets out' or buzzes. Almost always, it's a fraction of the normal pressure a player uses. This can be applied to a line too. Takes a bit of focus but worth doing. All the previous stuff on posture and hydration is super-important too.

Hmmm... it's not that good I'm afraid... Hasn't aged well but by contrast ST has matured nicely... Wry, subtle and clever. Horses for course I guess but the Wogan thing was just embarrassing. I think for me, Ade Edmonson hasn't ever been funny outside of the Young Ones.

Whilst tone is a very personal thing... it is worth experimenting. Today's ultra-clean amps are light-years away from the classic '70s amps in terms of tone, so if you're playing in that genre, you should at least investigate... Personally I find this over-driven tone glorious... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwhMw5lwzNg
I've never tried one (or even seen one) but I remember the bass player in one of Dave Brubeck's bands had one and made it sound very good... if that helps. (Which it probably doesn't.)
Found this which may help... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhLqb1YFlyM

That's a beaut! And a monorail bridge... normally hipshot... Not sure what another Spitfire will get you.. unless its got more/less strings, frets, etc?
-
It's a beaut!... although on your 2nd photo, the 'G' string looks awfully close to the edge of the neck?
Totally different filters - the OP is after a sweepable low pass filter to make wah-wah and womp-womp noises rather than a high pass filter designed to cut out subsonic rumble. However, something like a Thumpinator might be worth putting after the filter (as well as a limiter maybe) if you are doing some crazy resonant sweeps down low!
Sorry I got my filters the wrong way round.

Are they still so clever and classless and free?
Joe Strummer went to boarding school...
As a Yes fan in the punky class-war days, this always riled me. Yes and Prog were accused of being middle-class where as Punk more earthy and the voice of the working class. Ironically, Joe Strummer had quite a privileged background as the son of a diplomat where as Jon Anderson was the son of a milkman.... Pulp's, classic lyric springs to mind, "If you call your Dad he could stop it all." -
Just joined a second band. A ukelele outfit !!!!
visog replied to Tuco's topic in General Discussion
Oh great... like we need more ukelele... Go find Ukechat, whilst we argue that Sid Vicious was better than Jaco, etc... -
If you know music, you know how incredible this is.
visog replied to JakeBrownBass's topic in General Discussion
It is impressive... and I wish I could do that, etc. BUT perfect pitch can be curse... people who have sometimes lose it. Some people with it can't bear to hear music with elements that are a little out of tune... (inc. guitar and bass which are approximations of varying levels). And finally, this is ultimately just a trick. It doesn't mean a thing until that kid is older and making music we can all enjoy. Then it's time to be impressed. Good luck to him, at the very least he's going to find piano playing and music arrangement and producing a breeze so he's got a whole musical career laid out for him. -
I'll ignore your disgusting crime of posting a blatantly 'bass guitar' thread in 'General' and say that you can probably find the information you need here: http://www.statii.com/ P.S. I have the twin pick-up Shark pro-active... in a lovely tobacco sunburst...

Sid Vicious - undervalued bass innovator?
visog replied to upside downer's topic in General Discussion
He had the look and the attitude for Punk but he could barely play and he admitted to throwing a bottle at a gig which blinded a women in one eye. That's before he escalated to murder. He was really a thug along for the ride - the puppet of McLaren. So.. I recognise the importance of the Sex Pistols but as an artist in his own right... nah. (*Although I did quite like his version of 'My Way' in NMTB... probably the only time he actually appeared on a record - singing or playing) -
Bit of newb in this area.... what's the difference between the Future Impact and say a SY300 at £500? Seems the latter has much more editing optons or am I missing something? (Or comparing apples and oranges?)

Many of the Sansamp pedals feature a low pass filter - sometimes called that, sometimes 'Rumble filter' and on the VT Bass DI, it's part of the 'Bite' function. Also the Radial Bassbone pedals have this feature. I think as an adjustable high pass filter. Worth checking out as you'd also get their DI, distortion and other features.

2018 - Wembley area.... Rush (featuring Mike Portnoy handling touring duties) Peart will be on the album of new material.... Portnoy will be the hired-gun 'Chester Thompson' for the tour. Peart will go on record wishing him well and giving him his blessing. Maybe even appearing in an ironic concert video waving off G&A... No-one will give a stuff about the new material, giving it a polite clap for it getting them all back in the studio... But the place will erupt as the opening legato lick of 'Spirit...' is played... Basschatters will grumble over lack of Rick and G's voice....
I listened to a Jaco live solo once. I didn't understand it. There was no time signature, it was just random runs with a couple of harmonics on the end. Then waiting for a few seconds then doing it again ..... and again.
Yes - much as I love his music I recognise this... his solo in on the live video of 'Shadows and Light' is like this - unsettled and neurotic. Might be the coke.... but his earlier work testify to his ability to play beautiful arrangements and parts, as well as inhuman stamina on super-fast grooves....

John Rutsey, "at last!"... * rubs hands together.... *

Real deal for me too. four sides to Jaco for me: Solo - highlights: Eponymous and 'Word of Mouth' Weather Report - highlights: 'Heavy Weather', couple of track from 'Black Market' and I've always enjoyed their 2nd eponymous too Joni - highlights: 'Heijra' - sublime and the others too, live album 'Shadows and Light' is great Sideman - highlights: Pat Metheny's 'Bright Size Life' But the last category along with his unofficial solo output deteriorated rapidly as he succumbed to substance abuse and bi-polar so don't let this sad end overshadow his earlier tour-de-force output....

Agree with the general awesomeness of Relayer - TGOD and Squire's lines within it.... but (gasp) the production is not as good as say, ;'Fragile' so it makes some of lines a little hard to hear with all the rest of it going on!

Basschat, Of the new niche of home hi-fi bluetooth multi-amps (including bass obviously), which is the best? Blackstar is half the price of the Ashdown... And the Ashdown seems to be limited in its availability.... i.e. it's not but let's go with the idea... Anyone in the industry had any experience yet? visog
