1. I stand corrected!
2. Absolutely right IMHO.^
3. OK, a few bits and bobs currently taking up space at VK towers. They say a picture tells a thousand words, so here we go... Item 1- Ashdown dual footswitch, latching. 1/4" TRS connector, nice long cable, chunky metal construction. I bought this from Ou7shined on here not long ago, but it turns out I need a momentary switch instead. Looking for what I paid which is £15 posted. ***FOOTSWITCH SOLD*** Item 2- Set of Rotosound Swing Bass, long scale, standard gauge (45-65-80-105), brand new. These were a gift but they're not my brand, they're not my gauge and I rarely play my 4 string anyway. Selling for £14-17+postage elsewhere, you can have these for £12 shipped. ***STRINGS SOLD*** Item 3- Pinnacle Studio 500 PCI- this was bought a while ago but there's no longer a desktop in our house to put it in. This is brand new, the cellophane wrapping is still on it. Includes PCI firewire card for linking to camcorders or audio interfaces and Pinnacle Studio editing software. Not really sure what to ask for this; Google tells me its still selling for $70-100; let's say £30 posted for now. Item 4- M-Audio Audiophile 2496- Good quality PCI soundcard, with stereo, MIDI and S/PDIF I/O. More specs here. The desktop this was part of has now been passed on to my stepdad (who chews through computers at a rate of knots, somehow) so I currently have no use for it. Includes the breakout cable with the MIDI and digital ports, and I think I have the original box somewhere. Not desperate to sell this as I do plan to get another desktop at some point; I'll put this up at £40 posted for the time being. The only trade I'm really looking for is a momentary footswitch (preferably a dual one) to replace the Ashdown- a Boss FS-6 would be ideal. If you have anything else feel free to try me. Payment by bank transfer preferred but open to negotiation. You can check out my BC feedback here. Thanks for looking. Kyle
4. Yeah, that's a Milestone III, just like mine AFAIK the I is a J copy, the II is a P and the III is a hybrid of both.
5.
The amount of times I hear other bassists say they just can't play my basses because the action is too low... I play with a really light touch though so I don't get fret buzz, but give it to anyone else and it sounds bloody horrible.
Likewise. It lets me get a proper clank when needed just by changing my plucking angle slightly.
6. D'oh! I should have thought that through more, especially since I read that link last time you posted it!
7.
Since the majority of our gigs in London have supplied back line, I literally go with my bass in Mono gigbag, with tuner, VT Bass pedal and two leads in the big pocket. If one lead failed (never happened yet), we are usually on the bill with at least 2 or 3 other bands so I know I could borrow one. If we are supplying back line, then my Mesa Walkabout comes with me as a one-hand lift, with the rest of my gear slung over my back as above.
Pretty similar for me- gigbag, bass, a lead, tuner. Done! If I was getting paid for it I'd be a bit more thorough in terms of spares though.
8. For checking bass only, I'll just pedal some notes in different registers for a while. As a band, we usually do a bit of one of our songs that has as much variety as possible.
9. Alan from ACG (posts as Skelf) is a Hipshot dealer I believe.
10. I really like Peaveys so the grind would be my choice; £200 in a private sale will likely buy you more than the same amount in a shop. They should both be solid instruments though as both companies make good quality instruments that punch well above their weight IMHO.
11. ^It's a DB, so no compensated nuts or adjustable intonation here!
12. I think the inputs on modern laptops are more robust than you guys are giving them credit for. FWIW I made no changes to the setup (preamp/FX-> 4 track-> PC) or the levels I use when switching from a "proper" soundcard on my desktop to the onboard sound on my laptop. Anyway, I'll stop flogging this particular dead horse now
13. Just checked the audio config panel and it's listed there as a mic/line in. I don't hear any noticeable issues with it, and for the OP's needs it should work fine. Again, YMMV.
14. No, but 1) I have more gain stages in my signal chain than I know what to do with and 2) I think these are designed to be pretty flexible. I very much doubt that it's like plugging into a mic input on a mixer.
15. If it's a laptop it's unlikely to have separate line/mic inputs- I record everything through the input marked as mic on mine (and run the monitors from the headphone output). If you have a proper interface it's a different story obviously. I guess YMMV.
16. Wizbat is the member I think.
17. Not a lot of info about pickups/electronics...
18.
Ah, well that's different. "The frets are in very good condition and the neck is straight", yeah right. Straight compared to what?
Its entirely possible that the neck was straight when it was sent- I would expect to have to give any bass that had been sitting in a post depot over a long weekend a good setup when it arrived.
19. To transfer from minidisc to computer you'll need to connect the output of the MD player to the mic input on the PC and use something like Audacity to record it. I'm sure there are all in one devices for doing it but I have no experience in that area. Hope that helps.
20. If you can determine that the truss rod works I would keep it. I quite like the post-apocalyptic aesthetic.
21. Dethklok and the Ibanez are real. Dunno about the last one but there are microtonal players out there, although I've only seen guitarists using it so far in metal.
22. ...that was weird...
