1. Also, the fact that when people post guitar threads in Off Topic they get moved to Bass Guitars suggests we need some other solution to me
2.
I imagine it's because it's a relatively new thing, there's not much competition yet, so the price battles haven't begun! Also, all the active cabs out there are lightweight, which of course adds to cost when you have class d amps and neodynium going on
No they're not- the Bergantino IPs and the ISPs are both heavy for their size. I think they're expensive because they're being marketed as the next big breakthrough in bass amplification, despite powered PA cabs having been around for a while and being much cheaper.
3. According to the page title, it's for bass players, not basses per se. We'd still be bassists doing deep discussion.
4. Assuming you mean Elixir, then I agree.
5.
I guess you may be looking at something better than the Gedo Musik basses - see my input/pics on this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry766332 but you're welcome to pick my brains on these. otherwise, has anyone got any comments on the Kremona basses? http://www.sandarac.co.uk/rangekremona.html (European made, not to be confused with Cremona - Chinese!) Their UK imports are connected with: http://www.oakdenemusicservices.co.uk/
My 5 string is a Kremona, which I bought through Bob Gollihur as I mentioned in another thread. Decent quality, and wider range of options (4/4, 5 strings. l/handed etc) but as if I were doing the full classically trained thing I'd be after something higher quality I think. The Upton range look fantastic.
6. Which sharp eyed mod moved this to Bass guitars without checking what the instrument in question is?
7. Hi, Since we seem to get threads about other instruments fairly frequently, could we have a sub-forum for guitar/bass/sax/drums etc discussion? This thread and this one, amongst others, suggest there may be an appetite given the lack of quality UK based forums for other instruments and the number of multi instrumentalists we have. Cheers Kyle
8. Peavey Millenium BXP?
9. Overwaters too, IIRC.
10. Boss VF-1. About a ton off Ebay. Decent drives, excellent modulations and delays, and a selection of EQs.
11.
He would have put the price up when he discovered the fault to stop people buying it.
What he said.
12. The short answer is yes- they build to order unless you order one Bob has in stock. Can't recall how long I was originally quoted (a few months anyway) but it was getting to the end of that period and I emailed Bob asking for an update, and it turned out the factory hadn't started the order for some reason, so it was put back another couple of months IIRC. Not a major issue for me anyway.
13. Do you have PowerTab or Tux Guitar? Both free as far as I know and should open those files.
14. I got mine from Bob Gollihur. He has an excellent reputation on TalkBass, and his service was pretty good, despite some cock ups at the factory.
15. It is doable (my DB came from the factory in Bulgaria directly) but the people on the sending end need to know what they're doing. Mine basically came in a bloody big box and a shitload of polystyrene. Don't know who would do it here though.
16. No, they do seem slightly wonky.
17. Arnocorps used to- I think they're down to one now though.
18. The TU-80 is a fine tuner (I use one myself) but the metronome on it is pretty horrible IMO- nasty harsh sound, and the lack of controls given the large number of functions makes it a bit fiddly to program. I use a seperate metronome (Korg MA-30) which is much easier and sounds less obonxious.
19. Does that mean that room is now essentially quadruple glazed?
20.
It's how you play 'em
Damn straight.
21.
BTW, IMO tuning a bass like a guitar is daft. The massive majority of bass styles revolve around single strings, if you want to do chords, there's more than enough variations without making everything else harder for yourself.
Makes it nice and easy to double guitar lines. Not everyone's priority, but I like competing with my shreddy guitarists. Also, having a 7 string guitar and a 7 string bass in the same tuning gives me a curious sense of instrument zen- my mind is symmetrical and harmonious. Unlike my music
22.
You cannot spell Bass without a B.
So a four string would be an Ass?
23. See, for me, I just like the potential that the extra range gives me. In my main band I don't get a lot of opportunity to use it because with a busy drummer, two guitarists and a heavy handed keys player there's just no room, but I'd rather have the extra notes and not use them than want them and not have them. The only downside to playing the 7 IME is the weight, and that's not a huge problem for me. You don't lose anything by adding more strings.
24.
It'd definitely work Jake; there's loads of online bass lessons on Youtube which people use quite well as a learning tool.. By using Skype that idea could be improved upon massively because it'll be interactive.. Maybe not suitable for all students, but for some it could work very well I think.
I've seen a number of established guitar and bass teachers offer lessons in this way, so its definitely doable, although I haven't tried it myself.
