  1. Hey I didn't say it would be popular!
  2. All jazz odysseys, all the time.
  3. I'm pretty hard-line on this - if punters are only coming to hear your greatest hits set, it's probably time to pack it in, imo. Too many acts trading on nostalgia. Exceptions apply, YMMV, see T&C's, etc.
  4. Nice! These blew my mind when I came across their site (in the early 2000s, I guess?). Cool to see them live up to that 🙂 Their range doesn't seem to have changed much since then, I think they're still using the same pictures!
  5. OK, got the pickups fitted. First impression is that the main benefit is the higher-spec jazz-style pickup is hum-cancelling and totally silent, other than that I don't hear a great deal of difference. I'll need to record some samples and A/B them with the ones I took before.
  6. Unless 300g and £75 is a deal breaker I'd get the one you like the look of more.
  7. This sounds pretty similar to how some graphite/carbon fiber basses are made, I think?
  8. Nice. TIL you can play ghost notes on a trombone.
  9. I'm quite taken with that treadplate pattern control cover.
  10. I don't really have bucket-list basses as such, but I was too slow to get a lovely looking Ibanez BTB single-cut locally recently. That's the only time I remember I've had a realistic interest in buying a bass then not been able to.
  11. Just bought a guitar stand from Lozz, quick delivery and nicely packed, thanks again!
  12. Bought some pickups from Mat and it was as smooth a deal as you could hope for -- thanks again!
  13. Just measured my 5+ string basses, two are ~16.5mm and one is ~20mm but I couldn't have told you what the spacing on any of them was beforehand. I used to have a 5 string on a 4 string neck conversion, even that was fine for me at the bridge, the nut end was more of an issue. That said I find swapping between basses with different numbers of strings pretty straightforward, which I know a lot of people struggle with, so may not be representative.
  14. Going to quote this verbatim when Mrs VK enquires about another mysterious package arriving
  15. Has anyone swapped the pickups for the higher end Sadowsky ones? There's a set to fit mine in the classifieds and I'm tempted, but I suspect that's just my GAS brain talking.
  16. I always wanted an excuse to use something like this...
  17. I had a Pod X3 Live (since upgraded to an HX Stomp) for a number of years. Guitar and bass models on it were both good to my ear. The editing experience is a bit clunky by modern standards but there are enough controls for it not to be too painful.
  18. Glad that jazz went to a good home 👍
  19. A desktop will be more amenable to upgrading parts in future as funds allow, too.
  20. Spitfire have made the entry level BBCSO plugin free for everyone!
  21. Thanks for the clarification! I'll give it a shot.
  22. Am I misunderstanding this page which says "ChordPulse has MIDI output but no audio output"?
  23. Oh Chordpulse is MIDI output only so not really what I was after.
  24. I need a 4 string jazz like I need a hole in the head but I'm tempted 😬
