Disappointed to learn it's not, in fact, the best a man can get.
-
Just be careful if you try this - I've left a nasty ding in the side of a neck trying to use a cable tie as a string mute before, I'm not sure they'll sit as flat as you'd want a fret to.
-
Is "mwah" not mostly a technique thing? Certain instruments may be more conducive to it but if you play with less vibrato you should be able to dial it back on any fretless 🤷♀️

A Boogerfooger, if you will.

Anyone know of a unlined fretless 5 string under £600?

Some recent discussion on this: As mentioned there, I have a Sadowsky Metro Express, although if your budget will stretch to the Wal above you might have a few more options! -
I'm sure they're lovely, but the Jazz scratchplate with no control plate just looks all kinds of wrong to me.
-
I have the P/J version of the Sadowsky, and am pretty happy with it. The main issue I have is how the P pickup is anchored, which is obviously not an issue on the J/J model. The neck and unlined board are lovely imo.

I did wonder if you're maybe trying to run too low a latency? What interface are you using, and what latency is it running at?
-
Status graphite necks. Looks like they're not taking orders at the moment though. Edit: tried to link directly to the necks on the site but apparently that wasn't possible in 1997 when that site was built

How much physical RAM does the machine have? 95% usage in normal use does seem high. I'd start by uninstalling Norton tbh, total waste of space. Try closing Edge while recording, maybe?

[SOLD] Pyramid 6 string (E-F) set -- I acquired this as 2x 7 string sets but managed to make a mess of fitting the low B on the first one so had to use both, so what's left is the top 6 of a 7 string set. These are nice strings though, very punchy to my ear, and the rest of the other set went on without any problems. Includes a wound .022 for the high F. The full set is £49 + shipping from Thomann, you can have 6/7ths for £16 posted. Allparts black felt washers (x8) - tfw you need two of something but they're only sold in packs of 10. How does £4 posted sound? [SOLD] Allparts pickguard screws (x17) - I think they're nickel? Again, I needed 3, they come in packs of 20. £3.50 posted. Happy to combine to save on postage, or if you're in Glasgow you're welcome to collect. Payment by paypal or bank transfer. You can see my previous BC feedback here.

Bought some straps from Nick, all good -- thanks again.

Trying to get Cliff Burton live tone but can't get an Ibanez HD1500

@bartelby can get close with the Zoom B3, I can get close with an HX Stomp, probably many others in a similar vein. -

Sounds like I might have underpriced the HD1000 I sold on here last year 😅 What effect are you trying for here? Delay with feedback that accents the high frequencies? -
Oh yeah, the pickup pan being wired backwards is still daft, and they even call it out in the manual as something you can change with a soldering iron if you want to 😬

I took delivery of this yesterday and finally got a chance to play it properly today. It absolutely sings, with mwah for days. Out of the box the action was playable but high for my tastes, but knocking the saddles down quite a lot was no bother. Need to tweak the pickup positions as a result but that's a matter of taste really. Just been playing through a blank Helix preset and it sounds great. The neck is lovely, quite flat I think, but very playable IMO. Can't really see it in my crappy picture but the sparkle in the black finish is nice. Took me a bit to realise I'd put the treble and bass to +10 instead of 0 but that one's on me. Couple of downsides so far: the treble side of the P pickup isn't sitting flat (the bridge side is lower than the neck side), and I think the G and D strings are too quiet as a result -- may need to look at how it's attached. Also the plastic film over the control plate seems to have been under the screws and knobs, so it seems impossible to get it off cleanly -- it's been about 20 years since I've had a bass new from the factory though so maybe that's normal? Overall I'm pretty happy, not least with the fact that my fretless chops (such as they were) don't seem to have completely disappeared.

Gigbag for larger-bodied basses

Plot twist - I got a Sadowsky Metro Express, and the bag that came with it fits the Conklin, just. That'll do. The Conklin case would have cost more for shipping than the case itself. -

A good shout -- I've emailed to inquire. They list one on their site but not clear if it will fit, or how much it will cost to ship to the UK. -
Looks lovely, but those violin corners look to be in almot exactly the right spot to stick into your ribcage?

It turns out that Googling "estrella case" brings back a lot of results for lager -- from what I can gather they used to make bags for Fodera but don't seem to have been active for a few years now. -
Gigbag for larger-bodied basses

Thanks @pete.young, hopefully this makes sense: The length is similar to a regular 4 string, the body is a bit wider but it's the proportions of the top horn that's problematic. -

Thanks folks, an acoustic bass case might be a shout. @binky_bass do you still have a Conklin Sidewinder ERB? Any gigbag tips?
