is there any interest in 3d printing? I know it's not really bass focussed but if people are interested, I can easily show people how it works. There will not be enough time to actually print anything useful unless its a thumb rest or a pickup surround. More than happy to do so though Thoughts welcomed? Thanks Rob

Does your DB ‘prefer’ playing in certain keys?

I never read dots on a gig, but I do read chord charts a lot and I tense up slightly if I see a G# chord as opposed to Ab, so my bass (i.e. me) definitely sounds worse in sharp keys -

Is a new mass-produced bass ever worth more than £1500
Bassfinger replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
The people that have the disposable income for such purposes don't have a problem with it. -
Bacon sarnies may well have gone by then, of course for a small fee, one may be kept back....

On the studio version the key is 3b's (Eb). The first chord is a dominant 7 1st Inversion: (G7/B) This chap below has it nailed (accompanied with a scrolling video). All the Bass notes, chord terminology/changes etc are correct. For non-readers, he has provided tab as well.

The reality is that £1500 for a bass is not necessarily mad. £100 for a bass is and reflects a unique period in history when interest rates, inflation and economic co-operation were very favourable. -
I'll be about 10-10.15ish

It's not just Chinese, and that labour is no less skilled than assembling any other product. Chinese wages are rising the same way as wages all over the world. China is certainly not a 3rd world country. Luthering by hand is probably a skilled and dying art, many people seem to buy a bass and send it straight for a setup. But I'd have thought any fret levelling, setup, etc, that needs to be done after a few years is a skilled job. But I don't see why it's any different having an in house person doing it at the assembly line. -
**Reduced price of cab from £575 to £500, or £800 for the pair** I've been playing live through via DI for the past 6 months and I'm simply not getting use out of these anymore! There is a little damage to the cover on the cab which I've tried to photograph the best I can, and there seems to be a rubber foot missing from the head. Other than that, they're both in good condition, I've never had any issues with either of them. Collection only (or happy to drive to meet halfway within reason). Willing to split them up at £500 for the cab and £300 for the head (happy to have that one posted alone at the buyer's expense). Any questions, ping me a message.

I went for a Volvo V90 estate but it was pure luck that i could actually fit the QSC 3-way 15's PA cabs as well as my 2off Mesa cabs etc. I didn't buy it with that intention but its saved us a lot of money on van hires. Dave

That Black Pearl version... Wow.

But the OP has already fitted the Schaller. Besides the Dunlops aren't any better, just different.

I was and still am the van driver. Not sure why i've always seemed to be left to do any van hire. Possibly because i've been retired in recent years and had more time available. In late 80's/early 90's we had our own Ford Cargo truck that i usually drove. To be fair i really enjoyed driving the truck. Current bands use our cars for most gigs these days. I carry the bass rig and larger PA cabs and drummer carries the smaller PA and his drums and lights etc. Our Glam band stay so far apart across Scotland that its not practical getting one vehicle for a gig. When we need the subs for larger gigs we hire a van tho and it comes off the fee that night altho its usually just myself and drummer that use it as we live approx 25min apart and for most gigs he goes past my area but guitarist lives approx 100miles from me. Singer is approx 40miles away. Dave

So US/Sweetwiter $500 preorder, Thomann £611 (or $775). Bonkers. If I do pull for one of these it'll be though my brother in law on a US trip.

Those tools that try and calculate the cost of an item historically in today's currency are really basic and flawed. A better way to relate it to lived experience would be the proportion of the sale price relative to income. For example, in the early 1960s an imported US Strat would cost about £200. The average weekly take home wage was £16 – so that's about 12 weeks work. Today, through the magic of manufacturing, we can get one for about a month's wage. -
