  2. Totally Clips Off The Part ~ Bonnie Tyler
  3. Like it says in the Old Testament, thou shalt not covet thy neighbours Wal. I was brought up with the understanding that a deal is a deal. Both parties are honour-bound to stick to what's been agreed. Before you agree a deal by all means thrash out the best terms for yourself that you can, but whatever you finally agree on you've got to stick to. This whole thing with Wal basses has got a bit daft. They're great basses with a unique tone and great history but they're not worth getting involved in a blind auction with spiraling prices just because of dwindling supply and burgeoning demand. I remember when Wal basses were fairly commonplace. No one was gazumping each other to get one back then. Buying a bass is one thing, selling your soul is something else entirely. There's plenty of other nice basses out there. I'm not having a go at the new owner particularly, I think his only real crime is over-enthusiasm. Good people often make errors of judgement, doesn't make them wicked. And the American chap still has his money intact to buy something even better when he sees it.

  5. Ssh, they’re heavy with crap necks….i want values to plummet 😬
  6. To an extent, yes. You have to keep the crowd happy. But also you have to enjoy what you play. One of the things I looked for in my current band is that the setlist isn’t a carbon copy of every other covers band’s setlist. Yeah we play Guns N Roses, but not sweet child o’ mine. Yeah we play Green Day but not Basket Case. The band has to be interested and invested in the songs they play - not simply acing as a playlist chosen by the punters.
  7. No - you are right. If there is a gap, then it is probably OK and the buzz is from something else.
  8. Probably around 9 months... I try to rotate them but some are less used than others.
  9. It reminds me that I've played a Wal and really disliked the neck.
  10. Just back from rehearsal. Targeted a few songs that are nearly there rather than running through our set. Are You Gonna Go My Way (for some reason we couldn’t nail the timing coming out of the solo) and You Could Be Mine (GnR) are now gig-ready. Numan ‘Cars’ and AC/DC ‘You Shook me all night long’ are homework for next rehearsal.
  11. Andy Fraser of Free, unfortunately no longer with us, died 2015.
  12. I would argue for x-n, where x is the perfect number of basses and n is the number of Basschat members.
  13. Well Newcastle ideally but I could make Leeds work. It's about time I visited my brother.. I'll pm you tomorrow.
  14. Did you buy it from the Bass Gallery recently?
  15. Depending on the gig we play If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next, and it usually goes down well - with the right crowd. For those who don't know it, it's a song about the Spanish Civil War, and I find it very moving. To be fair, though, Peaches tends to get people dancing a bit more.
  16. How long do you think the one you haven't played for the longest time has sat untouched? I'm curious whether you try and get round them all, or if there are some that never get used?
  17. I stopped into Stompbox Northwood at lunch today and gave the Space 5 they had a go. I really really liked it , I’m looking for a five string and this seems like a lot of bass for the money, even at £750. the one thing that put me off was the volume control , it seemed to be either on at full volume or off within a very small range of movement in the master volume knob. There was no tapering. The guy at the shop told me this wasn’t a problem and the pots could always be upgraded but it didn’t feel right to me. @Dood did you do your test of these, was it something you noticed (or anyone else who owns one, or spent a bit of time playing one) or were the electronics on this one a bit dodgy?
  18. So much going on in these pictures that I love. The bass! The pickups! The carpet!
  19. A mate of mine, who's a really good drummer with a pretty decent CV, was always a big Quo fan. He was always a bit defensive about it, as a few of us found it quite amusing! He's now got a Status Quo tribute up and gigging, with some good players involved. I'm going to have to go and see them at some point - Roll Over Lay Down (and a few others) were always a guilty pleasure...!
  20. Bought an East UniPre from Gaf, pleasure to deal with.
