  2. I wanna know how the pros use dual lock! Spread the knowledge...
  3. Hi guys! Im new on the group and I wanted to ask you something (or maybe I need I little bit lf help). I get the offer to get a Spector Rebop 5 DLX for €1100, I just saw the bass and its okay, a bit used (some war scars) but it sounds great (I used to have a Rebop years ago so I know how they sound). But in other way I really like the Spector NS Pulse Cinder 5 but I never played this one, tho I know the neck is a little bit thinner than the rebop (mostly like the legends wich I have one) but not too much about the sound and new one its abour €1200. So my question is wich one you would recomend to go for? Because if they sound similiar I will go for a "newest" one. Thanks!
  4. I would imagine that Thomann would have negotiated a much better deal than that, with the volume of instruments they sell, just like I don't expect they'll pay for the hardware what I would pay in a shop. edit: I also needed less than one rod to do a full neck They do look just like Luminlay, but even if they're not, it's not exactly hi-tech. I'm sure they will do a decent job. I stopped using it because I don't think they're that useful. They're very bright initially, but that fades away rapidly in a few minutes. The residual glow is good in the dark, but any dark stages I've been, there's always some other moving lights and in the end it doesn't help as much as I wished. I once made my own, buying a small pot of glow in the dark paint, and powder separately. I mixed a bit of paint with powder until I got a paste, and put "blobs" over the existing side dots. They were very discrete and glowed brightly... but the best was that I could tell the dots by touch, and that was far more useful than any glow, for me.
  5. Wow, I didn't know that! I'm glad I bought mine.
  6. My Powersnupply for my alembic is in my rack with my preamp and power amp so it is no extra bother and I like the fact that with the PSU the bass is always working at full spec with 36v dc feedng the the on board electronics. I just consider the batteries, a backup.
  7. Wait what, all synth parameters, why have I missed this? Is this just for V4?
  8. Just back from a Dexys gig at Scarborough. A good, fun night out.
  9. Dave's on here - @sprocketflup 👍
  10. Just got in from rehearsal with the classic rock band. Went very well, are now working on Led Zeps Kashmir, a great song made rather more difficult when it’s played without vocals. But we’re getting there nicely with it. On a personal point I’d recently changed strings on my MIJ Fender Mustang from Elixir steel rounds to nickel rounds and they really work with this bass. So a great evening for me.
  11. I've just seen them, bloody brilliant

  13. Selling my Hamer Slammer. MIK in the 90s. Pretty sure the pickups are unbranded Dimarzios, very lively and punchy Excellent condition, a tiny bit of rash and a few v small lacquer chips on the back, as per pics. This is a really well built instrument, the neck has a smooth matte finish, feels and sounds great. Comes in a brand new Gear4 Music hard case £275 posted to your door thanks for looking

    Alembic

Maybe mod a series 2 by replacing the op amps then 😉. Tho there are likely other things in there using power (voltage bias resistors or sommat) The 1x9V batteries in my Wal basses last for years.
  15. Last night, full band: Vocalist, bass, drums, guitar, & 3 backing vocalists. Sounded great and we all played well. The bass sounded amazing! I was using the rehearsal room combo. I put it on mute, turned the volume down and plugged in, turned the volume up ready to have a fiddle with the EQ, but it already sounded awesome so I left it alone. Pic of combo and settings ⬇️

I don't recall the actual numbers, but this is the ballpark: 741 consumes around 1 mA, TL071 practically the same. NE5534 some 5 mA, and an Alembic has several of them. A 9 V battery has a capacity of approx. 500 mAh. 20 playing hours means that the circuitry consumes maybe 20-25 mA. It would be only 4-5 opamps.
  17. I think Carol Kaye favoured one more recently? Very good basses and a bit undervalued.
  18. Full refund from PayPal received today. Unbelievably the seller messaged me and said he couldn't contact me before, because he (or she) had lost their phone while on holiday. Yes, of course. I left them scathing feedback and blocked them. Bought a nice Ibanez instead. Result.

    Siren. C4?

Yeah! I need one for the intro to "war pigs"
  20. I recently picked one of these up too and agree it brings something a bit different to my tone which I really quite like. Also prevents me walloping the front end of my amp when engaging an octaver! Haven't made the time to try it on my fretless yet but it's encouraging to hear the positive comments here. Think I'll need to spend some quality time with the Opto Comp over the weekend.
  21. Just out of curiosity, what don't you like about it?
  22. New things have been accidentally bought, @jimbobothy showed me how the pros use dual lock, and I had enough patch cables… tuner - oc10 - C4 - H9 - iron man - Omnicomp - L4 preamp - shallow water clone - Anadime - H9 - colourbox New are the valeton oc10 which is just amazing (and was an accident buying) and the H9max which can do so much and pushed the zoom ms70cdr off the board… lots of crossover with the C4 so we will see how that goes
  23. I will be playing with a pick so the low end fullness will be a benefit I feel
  24. You may be disappointed in that respect as it doesn't do overdrive. The valve/ss blend is more for tonal adjustment. You do however have 2000 watts of headroom to play with. I guess that's what the "Dynamic" in DBS is all about! I could run mine flat out and it still sounded great! I think the eq frequency range adjustment is slightly different on the 7400. It can be rack mounted. There is a link output so it can be linked into another 7400. It is 400 watts into 2 ohms compared to 200 into 4ohms.
