  1. Past hour
  2. Thanks for all the advice lads, very much appreciated. Well, I bought it. The lad i bought off was really helpful. He was more of a guitar player and singer, and only used the bass to lay down some bass tracks at home....he had quite the set-up tbh. He'd had it set up a while ago and still played fine, to me anyway. Said the strings had been on a while, but did give me a new set. Amp works great as well, and sounds good to me though ive nothing to compare it to. Overall, very happy with my purchase. I'll be taking the strings off tonight and giving it a good clean...just because I want to really. And changing to pickguard colour as well.....its going matt black. I will hoy some before and after pics up, but unsure to post on this thread, or if there's a more appropriate thread to post on. Once again, thanks for all the advice, it really is appreciated.
  3. In my naivety I assumed people would think I meant country of manufacture, but clearly there are so many more options I should have considered.
  4. Having completed two other Guitarbuild.co.uk basses (https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/478420-guitarbuildcouk-bass/ and https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/490058-nbd-guitarbuildcouk-bass-2) I wanted to do (at least) one more. Body and neck were ordered and arrived yesterday. Parts for the build have been trickling in over the last few months as I found the bits I wanted. Once again, the whole process working with Jasmine at Guitarbuild.co.uk was smooth from start to finish and the body and neck are everything I hoped for. The body, like the other two, is the P-bass body, except this time it's actually going to have a P-bass pickup :gasp: Main wood is alder with a swamp ash veneer from the special collection. Neck is two piece flamed maple - and it's gorgeous. All black hardware is going to be Hipshot B-bridge, licensed Hipshot 1/2" ultralights, Hipshot three-way string retainer and Schaller straplock buttons. Pickup is going to be a Tonerider TRP1 with a special custom @KiOgon wiring loom - John made me a completely modular P-bass loom that I can easily wire up with or without either volume or tone pot. First config will be pickup straight to the output and only if I don't like that will I start drilling holes in the body. Current plan is to finish the body in clear Wudtone (like the other two basses) though I have toyed with the idea of doing either Olympic white, or... orange. Thoughts on that?? So, without further ado... photos before I get started doing anything:
  5. I'd rather see the rules enforced consistently than see BC shut down for want of funds. But... If that's what actually happened - i.e. the thread was removed with no explanation given - then it's no surprise the OP raised another one. Perhaps a better response might have been a mod post in the thread restating the forum rules about valuation, and then a thread lock? That's transparent, and it would've been a useful reminder to everyone else who'd responded to the thread as well. Of course this is just my 2p, with none of the facts to hand 😉
  6. They actually have three words for fluffy depending on the context
  7. Maybe ask in the Repairs and Technical section, I don’t know anything about electronics myself
  8. Your post scared me there for minute but I’ve been to the mirror, pinched myself and I’m definitely real. All this despite buying a new boutique bass every 6 months.
  9. Keyboard sustain pedal as expression pedal into some kind of multi effects ?
  10. I have to admit, to my shame, that in my younger years I didn’t look after my bass (in the 80s I only had the one) at all. Our guitarist was always commenting on the state of it. Gunk on the fretboard, action really high, intonation not set, I just didn’t look after that bass at all.
  11. The idea had crossed my mind, but I was hoping there’s something already out there before I start inventing 😉😂
  12. This 1973 Jazz restoration is turning into a bit of a headache.

  13. Now wearing black Rotosound tapewounds....
  14. The back of the tuners give a suggestion of how well the bass had been cared for. They're a a bit scabby and the chrome is showing signs of rust coming through the chrome. The knobs were glued on, the pots were lose... Haven't plugged it in yet. Hopefully no issues with the electronics.
  15. Just wondering what the reaction from punters might have been if you played anything by Alice in Chains, Cure etc. Or do landlords rule out anything like that from the off?
  16. I was recently looking to sell my 3/4 double bass and put it up for sale for £250. I then took a picture of the inside label through the f hole and discovered it’s a Musima. It says: Musima VEB musikinstrumentenbau Made in German Demokratic Republic then a serial number: III/23/3 K -G 013/60 can anyone help? I think it may be worth substantially more than I first thought judging by buyer reactions. There are no breaks, just a few scuffs and minor surface damage. thanks in advance!
  17. Today
  18. Speaking to a guitarist earlier actually. Played with George Michael in the 90's & getting £2500 now on average £200/£250
  19. My best mate toured in 90s with sisters of mercy playing keyboards. He made enough to buy a house so was quite lucrative. Cost him his marriage eventually though.
  20. Listening again I think I prefer the Wayne wade one
  21. All packed except the D5, new strings to be played in a little.
