As new Genzler ‘Magellan Pre’ with box. 3 band preamp (with parametric mids), HPF & DI with A/B contour channel changeable by footswitch & set by dial. Same preamp and contours as is on the Genzler Magellan amp heads Channel A = Modern, mid scoop/Hi & Low Boost - sounds excellent for funk, R&B, slap, pop and many other styles and manages to have a mid scoop eq’d that doesn’t get lost in the mix! Channel B = Vintage, roll off highs & high mids, low mid boost and cut the ultra lows giving a really nice sound for more old school music - again can bet set from flat to subtle through to max - it’s very hard to get a a bad sound from the pedal, super transparent and very musical EQ & contours Check out the videos below for some idea of the sounds, but if you like a clear transparent preamp you won’t get a much better sound than this, and the switchable contours are some proper ‘tone magic’ Genzler Magellan Preamp/DI Pedal Features: Wide Range Input Circuitry Input and Master Volume Controls Variable High Pass Filter Switchable Dual Contours (A & B) Independent Contour Controls Same Magellan 3 Band EQ w/Sweepable Mids Signal mute Preamp Output—Capable of driving a Separate Power Amp Aux Input Headphone Output Studio Quality Direct Out Circuitry w/Pre or Post and GND Lift Lightweight Aluminum Chassis Construction Operates on any Power Supply Voltage: 9 – 18VDC, either Polarity (power supply not included) Dimensions: 6” (152mm) W x 4.3” (110mm ) D (w/ jacks) x 2.5” (63mm) H (w/ knobs and feet) Weight: 1.1 lb (0.5kg) Bought recently from Bass Direct for a fair bit more than the asking price so grab a bargain - has box and instructions Price = £165 with UK Shipping DEMO VIDS:

Welcome to the club. I bought mine way back way before Covid for the simple reason that Andertons were selling them off cheap and I couldn't resist. They started life as floor monitors and immediately gave me way more headroom before feedback down to a truly flat response. I quickly adopted them for rehearsals and the vocal sound was so good I started using them for gigs. They've become my go to speakers for small gigs and for my semi acoustic duo and my duo partner bought a second pair for his solo gigs and for us to use as floor monitors. I now put everything through them including kick and bass and my best ever live sound for bass has consistently come from these up on poles. They are completely unspectacular, they just put out the sound you feed in to them, reliably and at volume. They aren't exactly light but the compact size means they are completely manageable and oh, that vocal sound from what is really a budget speaker.

It is just as well that I no longer have a spare 5 string neck. I do not think I could stop myself. Those are lush.

Starkey is an American brand with pretty good consumer focus and easy to connect to Bluetooth devices. The audibility of the top end depends on your type of hearing loss. You can compare your audiogram to the HA's datasheet to see if they can theoretically supply sufficient amplification. The fit and type of earpieces affect the maximum output in the high frequencies. When they leak sound to the HA's mics they will trigger a built in limiter to prevent feedback.

Finally finished the design on the headstock today - kept seeing bits which displeased me, and of course the masking tape took the occasional wee chunk out of the edge so spent a lot of time with a tiny brush sorting that out, then seeing other wrong bits, resetting the clock to an hour again every time I put new paint down. Finally think I got it all and got to work on lacquering. Done 6 or 8 coats this evening - want a nice, thick layer before I start flattening it because I would hate to sand through to my paint underneath. Gonna let it harden for 24 hours or so before trying to flatten it back. 86_2007 project headstock lacquer preflattened.mp4

That's an incredibly tough first gig, given the circumstances. I really admire and respect you for even attempting this. I think what will get you through is the fact that you're paying respect to your brother. Maybe think about how proud he would be of you to remember him in that way. What anyone else thinks is irrelevant. They are all there to celebrate your brother's life. Visualise you playing on point and just practise until it's second nature. I hope it goes well for you.

Yep, I agree with you and in fact I've done this already, I have a lovely modded USA P which currently has a Mex J neck on it which is great, but there's something about a higher-end 'purpose-built' instrument which maybe makes it a bit more solid and fine-tuneable. My experience with USA & Japanese Fenders, as well as the more boutique Fender-ish brands like Sandberg, Vincent, Atelier Z etc is that they come with immaculate fretwork and necks that are rock solid, which means you can set them up exactly how you want, and the setup stays where it is, no rattles, buzzes, you can have an unreasonably low action if that's what you like etc. I'm aware this is a first world problem and most Fender-shaped things can be fixed with a little fretwork and a proper set-up, but really we all love those higher-end Fenders and FSO's for a reason.. (or most of us do anyway)

My next attempted solution is now going to be shoving a Valtone GP5 into the Fx return ... and just using the power stage.

The problem I’ve been having with my NHS HAs is in places like the office. I really have to concentrate and focus to listen to anyone. Working & talking at the same time isn’t possible. Apparently, better quality HAs will make this easier. Also having a tinnitus function could prove useful. Like I put in the title, I want ones that can work well with music, not just speech. The band I’m in are An electronica band & I do a lot of sound design, so would like to hear the top end for a change & not have someone else check that for me. So far, there’s only a couple of hearing aids that offer AI. I’ve been looking at the Oticon Intent 1, which get great reviews, so I’ll see if I can give them a test run. https://www.oticon.co.uk/hearing-aid-users/hearing-aids/products/intent There's also the Starkey Edge as another option. https://www.starkey.co.uk/hearing-aids/edge-artificial-intelligence-hearing-aids

If you want to reserve it? Lol…. It is from a single solid piece of walnut so no joins. This is the slab I cut it from; I managed to cut above the bottom crack but kept some of the knot across the bottom of the body. The top knot and crack I cut most out around the neck pocket and upper horn curve and filled the rest with black epoxy for a little bit of an individual feature It’s getting it final hand sanded oil 1000 grit rub down tomorrow and then a few extra coats of Liberon.

Nice bass, but not what you think it is. Immediately, the battery cover and smaller bridge plate make it after around about 1996 IIRC. The lack of a ‘Made in San Luis…’ etc. on the back of the head shows it’s a Japanese Stingray EX model, so USA parts on a made in Japan instrument IIRC - you’ll have to check that out for sure. If it’s an EX, serial number won’t show up on the Ernie Ball database.

For sale is my Master Effects Super 300 preamp. This is a boutique pedal that is made to order in Canada, which I ordered and imported recently. This does the SVT sound incredibly well, from low gain slight breakup to full on fuzz, and without hearing it through a PA or a cab it’s hard to explain how good this sounds, and just how much heft and massive low end it kicks out without sounding muddy (unless you want to EQ it that way) It really is a very high end pedal in sound and build quality - it’s only a few weeks old, I paid £225 to Master Effects for the pedal plus the fees for importing it. I knew getting an SVT preamp was a bit of a gamble for me as it’s not really my sound and I want something a bit less overdriven so I am selling this to get the Super 800+ (GK sound) which is what I should have bought in the first place! If you like the SVT sound I absolutely guarantee you won’t be dissapointed - the sound from this is huge and just incredibly warm and thick in the low end. Theres not many of these about over here as you have to pay almost £50 delivery plus import fees, so I am taking a pretty big hit on it, however I’d rather do that and get this shifted quickly so I can order the 800+ asap (as it takes up to 4 weeks to get your pedal from ordering) and I’ll be genuinely happy for someone who loves the SVT sound to get hold of this as I promise you’ll absolutely love it! Pics below and also a few vids - it’s hard to really get the full effect of this pedal until it’s moving some air at a gig, but I’ve been massively impressed by th quality of Master Effects, hence why I’m getting the 800+ next Loads of info about this pedal and about Master Effects over on Talk Bass too if you want to do a bit more reading Please check out the Master Effects Website for the full spec etc, where the functions etc are all explained better than I can do it: https://www.mastereffectspedals.com/superthreehundred Price = £180 inc UK Shipping VIDS:
