  4. Hum is almost always caused by grounding/earthing issues with the wiring and there's seldom anything you can do about it.
  5. I still have a long term plan to spec an SB-1. I hope I'll still be able to when I'm in a position to do so.
  6. Gotta love a USA Sterling, a better all rounder than a stingray in my humble opinion.
  7. I now have said 12 string and this is now £400.
  8. I should add, I've a u bass on the way, hopefully arriving Monday, once it's in good nick, I'm happy to make arrangements with you, as long as your ok with that
  9. Undercoat on. Looks like an X-Box.
  10. Hey are they still available? Would you mind posting to Dublin?
  11. There's some big changes happening in the musical instrument manufacturing world right now as a result of all this tariff f**kery. You're going to be seeing a lot more US brands opening factories in other countries. Many US brands already have manufacturing in other places, but do all their distribution from the US, ie, the outsourced instruments are shipped to a US-based logistics hub for worldwide distribution) - that's going to be changing too. And yes, I have insider info on this.
  12. For sale is my fantastic USA Ernie Ball MusicMan Stingray 5 string ‘Special’, in stunning Dropped Copper Metallic finish, 18v preamp, fantastic tone across all strings with tight and punchy B-String, roasted maple neck. 34" scale. Original white pickguard replaced by a black 3-ply one to better suit. Strings fitted: Ernie Ball Regular slinky roundwound 45-130. Comes with original Musicman flightcase, plus truss-rod tool and two brand new packs of Erniebll strings. More photos will follow, once better light returns tomorrow.
  13. I fully agree. Doesn‘t help that there’s less contours and the edges are less radiused / more angular than on ABs. I‘d be pleasantly surprised if these were revealed to be hollow builds weighing in at 2.x kg - otherwise, I don’t really see a reason why these exist, except everyone and their mum urging Dingwall to come out with a headless.
  14. That would be a dream scenario, but I expect that in the current economic climate and, let us say, governmental unpredictability in the USA I doubt that EBMM would be likely make that kind of a committment. . The tragedy is that G&L have got terrific products, a great heritage and so much to offer to the marketplace. Once any company gets a reputation for sub-standard quality it's a long way back to regain their reputation. As you pointed out Russ, G&L used to be a byword for build quality and solid, reliable instruments.
  15. Even if it's easy to accidentally release them? I don't know whether it is or not, I'd like to find out. Not that I want one, I've found that I prefer parallel-fret basses.
  16. The LACS I ended up with has a mere 11mm (ish) spacing. For babies maybe?? 🤔 Horror I know! This is Sam Totman's (from Dragonforce) LACS Iceman... Well, it's mine now. 👍
  17. Been getting hum through the PA speakers (RCF 932 and previously 912s) at certain venues. Assuming it's down to the electrical interference from the wiring. Is there anything that can be done to minimise?
  18. Apparently these started shipping last week. Only one review so far though... Uninspiring sound, not Bongo or really Music Man. Looks fantastic though, and £899 at GuitarGuitar.
  19. My mate has 4 of these to put around the band, he's using an cheap keyboard case to transport all 4, but agrees it's not particularly protective. I would have thought a pole bag with as many slots as you need could work and not break the bank?
  20. It's been a minute, sorry. I dug up a transcription I did years ago of John Patitucci demonstrating walking bass on Stella by Starlight and synced it with the clip. Some very useful vocabulary in there that can be stolen for your own purposes: You can download the transcription PDF here: John Patitucci - Stella by Starlight
  21. Are they? That's new, quartersawn used to be the default on US G&Ls. In which case, I agree with you. They're not doing themselves any favours if they're cheaping out on what are supposed to be their prestige products. I wonder if a merger with Ernie Ball could be on the cards? It'd make sense to consolidate all of Leo Fender's post-FMC instruments into one company.
  22. Today
  23. Quarter sawn necks are an extra-cost option on current USA G&L basses. A very worthwhile upgrade, in my opinion. There's also some confusion about the hardware in so much as I read on Talkbass that the Tribute basses were no longer using the same hardware as the USA models, and indeed that the USA models were now using the imported hardware previously for the Tribute series. If that's true then G&L have been trying to keep prices down by cutting corners on costs. That's never a good strategy, and smacks of desperation. If you want to be a prestige brand, once you degrade your own product it's very hard to recover from that.
  24. That's a lovely looking bass, GLWTS John 😎
