How was your open mic or jam night last night?
nekomatic replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Do your soloists generally turn up with one tune that they simply must play, or are they flexible about playing on any tune that they know? The organiser of the jam I go to seems pretty good about sorting people out so everyone gets to play on something, even if it’s not always their first choice. That and not letting anyone drag a solo out for too many choruses. Still, being too popular is a good problem for a jazz jam to have! -

So sorry to see this, if we get offered anything here I will let you know immediately

It's kind of Basschat lore to always opt for UPS Premium when using Interparcel as musical instruments are covered that way. I hope that there's a happy ending to this tale...🤞

No opinion here, just facts and the assumption that this bass bears "that logo": 1. Stealing counterfeit goods is a crime, no doubt and this incident undermines our confidence in couriers. 2. Buying counterfeit goods isn't a crime in the UK. 3. Making and selling counterfeit goods is an offence. Here's the conundrum just as an observation. If the seller/maker of the counterfeit goods reports a theft of those goods to the police they will have to give a description of the goods, which should include some facts about them not being genuine but "replica". Counterfeit goods are generally confiscated, they aren't returned because they breach intellectual rights. Interesting.

It's a beauty, in fab condition! It does have some neck dive due to how light the bass is in general, but nails some of those Clarke tone from that period of his playing for sure.

I see Bass Direct have a Lieber / Clarke Spellbinder (No9 no less) on sale at 4k. While that is quite hefty for a bass, only 50 were made (they destroyed the mould to preserve value apparently). Does anyone have one or played one? They’re short scale and suffer from horrible neck dive due to the composite body but I’m curious to know more about this mysterious and super rare bass.

I assume you’ve thought of politely suggesting that if they don’t like the bucket going round then they could always just pay you, out of the extra bar takings that the jam brings in. -

Another vote for the QC. I’m not keen on the Nano due to form factor and IO, but the full QC (and now the Mini just released at NAMM) are definitely worthy of consideration. With the new V2 Capture process, the captures are closer than ever. I’ve captured my REDDI, Khan VTDI and Sushibox Neptunium into my QC and it’s great having all of them available, even multiple times in the same preset (ie on 3 or 4 outputs so different instruments can run through them separately with different settings). With the amps/cabs/IRs, plus all the captures you can download for free of almost any DI/Preamp/Amp/Cab/Overdrive Pedal, and then all the effects on top, for me it is worth the price of entry. I should caveat this with the fact I haven’t sold the actual DI units (The Neptunium won’t come off my small grab n go board because its easily the best little tube preamp/DI i’ve ever had with it’s form factor, 9v power, and versatility EQ-wise), but i’m at the point where i’m wondering if I would ever need the others again now I have them captured into the QC.

Sadly Christianity has been complicit in some of the most horrendous crimes of the last couple thousand of years, and indeed the argument that many people give about not wanting to have anything to do with religion for this reason and instead pursuing secular humanism is entirely reasonable on this basis. Furthermore, if you follow contemporary Christian worship over the last thirty years or so, almost every one of the big worship marques has had a scandal/fall from grace at somepoint (or if they haven't yet they are probably about to) meaning that we wouldn't be able to use anything. For me, where art or technology are concerned, I prefer to separate the product from the author/creator, but nevertheless if you were in my congregation and specifically raised these songs and told me why you prefered for them not to be played I would absolutely, and prayerfully, consider the perspective.

Yes I've done that, sent pictures of package and everything, it was an e-bay purchase, they are looking into it, I'm just impatient, and they don't seem to be in a rush.

It felt poorly assembled and didn't give me any confidence it would last too long. Really lacked "substance" in my hands. As you may have read previously my reference points are two German made Warwicks.

My favourite one, when I was in a sludge metal band was someone committing on a video that we should switch to playing popular covers to make us more popular Thanks for that career advice. I always thought disgusting, soul crushing metal that appeals to weirdos was the route to fame and wealth. Id expected to be the new Taylor Swift by now. -
Not the same noise but we had a proper b4llache dealing with a pulsing 'noise' through our desk. We thought we pinned it down to the sax players Zoom effects unit (when disconnected)... only to find that if he was plugged in and one of the guitar Helix was unplugged it went off! Argh.

I can’t be doing with friends and family coming to gigs. I don’t want them or me to feel awkward like they have to come or pretend to like it. I must admit I rarely go and see bands live now, either. I’m scared to leave the house in case the TV licence man is outside. -
