I've had great fun and satisfaction out of this instrument. It is much modified, as you'll see, and it took me a couple of years to get it to just where I wanted it. I've really enjoyed having it, but have moved on in my mind, so happy to pass it to someone else. Specs: 30" scale Semi hollow 38mm nut width Mahogany body and neck Maple top Bound fingerboard, not sure what wood (likely rosewood), 20 frets. Modifications: (loads!) Tuners - Wilkinson gold Y tuners Neck - I don't like shiny, so I took the neck back to bare wood, then danish oiled it. It feels fantastic, very tactile. I'm not good at fine finishing, so the points where I left off sanding are obvious (see pictures) Body - same as above, don't like shiny. Back and sides have just had the shine taken off, but I went to town on the top - took all the finish off, then danish oil. It's a matte finish that allows the wood pattern to present well. Again, see pics for a couple of bits where I went too hard... Tailpiece - I wanted to use a long scale set of TI flats, so fitted the tailpiece. This has worked very well, with a couple of unexpected benefits - the usual 3 point bridge 'problems' have been bypassed. Also there is a pleasing natural saturation to the tone. It's very much a blues bass. Pickups - as you can see, I've replaced the 2 mini humbuckers with 3 matching AliExpress specials. I really like the Thundertron vibes, and they sound excellent. Controls - wired the pickups to master vol/tone and a 5 way selector. I don't like positions 2 and 4, but each pickup on it's own sounds great - real plummy warmth from the neck, P vibes from the middle, and just a tighter P sound from the bridge. So there we are. I think it looks splendid, you might disagree. I believe the current examples have 42mm necks, so this one might appeal to those who prefer a jazz neck... Very happy to answer questions, or take any good natured abuse...

Schroeder/Markbass setup - blown away!
lemmywinks replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Amps and Cabs
I always gigged with the angled driver pointing up, being pretty tall playing on small stages was always a pain for me but this was like having a regular cab and a wedge monitor in one compact box. I did tiny pubs and ballrooms with it like this, always delivered the goods. I later recreated this with the Markbass Club 121 cabs (after struggling with the TRV151p) - one facing forward and the other angled upwards on top of it with my head on an Ikea laptop tray! Looking back I should have just kept the Schroeder.. -

Live Aid was on my eleventh birthday. I remember watching it and thinking "They're going to have to do something BLOODY spectacular for my twelfth..."

@Stub Mandrel you need a TC BAM200 so it all matches!

I can imagine circumstances where I’d spend that on a bass. But not that bass. Forgiveness sometimes, permission never.

Wireless IEM system : M-VAVE WP-12 - suprisingly good for the price

The charger box form was a big factor in my decision. I find that very convenient. Live I often use a Joyo guitar wireless (JW-06 I think) system that uses the same method, and I really like it. -
Schroeder/Markbass setup - blown away!
pantherairsoft replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in a store. I tried one at a Bash Bash and was blown away - this is like you describe… strange speaker mounting. It’s one forward facing and another side facing, giving you a 212 in a box not much bigger than a 112. I was so impressed, I made an offer to the guy and bought it off him. I’ve never seen another in the flesh. I played Nottingham Rock City using this rig, and the sound man took the bass out of the PA due to the volume on stage. Afterwards he remarked how he’d never heard a rig so loud and punchy and was very fused that it wasn’t an 810. It’s an odd thing, but it works! I know the current line of cabs are somewhat different. I’m not sure what made them change design, but I’ve seen plenty of reports that the new cabs don’t stand up to this - they’re great, but don’t have anything that makes them stand apart from the competition. I’d still like to try a new one to see how it compares. -
We’re all different and beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I can’t see the appeal here.

alrighty! some cool idea in there. not really something id listen to but i appreciate what youre doing. production wise, it definately has a home recording sound to it, but so does everything i do so can't really provide any worthwhile feedback! the snare and kick sound un-centred though, that might be an artistic choice but it reduces the root impact.

The other day I bought a Chinese Jazz Bass neck, on Ebay, for just over £70. It's a perfect replica of a Fender Jazz neck and has both a 70s style Decal and a made up USA serial number on the back. I seriously think it has made its way out the back door of a factory that makes necks for Fender in China. It looks and feels like it could have been taken straight off a Fender Player. Of course I have no plans to sell it, or any bass its connected, to as the real thing.

This is my home practice rig. Sexy 🙂
-
I mark out a template on graph paper, then tape it to the enclosure. Next I centre punch where the holes should be and then pilot drill with a small (like, 1.5 to 2mm) drill. Finally I'll go in with the stepper bit to get the holes to size.

Clarky started following Tech 21 Bass Fly rig v1 plus fancy padded bag

Used with my old goth band (chorus v useful) and no longer needed. Very good condition and I even paid through the nose (£40 odd) for the fancy Tech 21 padded gig bag (which made travel to gigs on London tubes incredibly easy). Also comes with the PSU and slightly battered original tin. £180 posted seems more than fair given the beautious padded bag!

Maybe get a sh Chinese sadowsky metro pj? They were blowing out the old models really cheap and there are some secondhand bargains around. You keep your instrument as is and can always sell the metro on without a loss.
