  2. A really great Mexican P bass from Fender! Bought new from Andertons in 2021 for a handful of gigs, and has been my backup P bass for a couple of years, but has spent most of its life on a guitar rack or in a case. All original apart from the Schaller strap locks (black). No case. Collection only from SW London.

  5. Used but in excellent condition, these have the shorter length stem. Two bass-side and three treble-side, but they can be reversed if needed. Perfect for Dingwall Combustion basses. 6. Andy bought my BF Two10. He was extremely easy to deal with and a great communicator. In fact, having arranged for Andy to come and try the cab this morning at my place, I was unable to be there myself, because I had been admitted to hospital. Andy was happy to be let into my studio by my partner, set the cab up with his own amp and bass to try out. He then made a bank transfer to our account for the agreed amount. Despite what could have been a major set back, everything went extremely smoothly thanks to Andy. Deal in confidence. A great BassChatter. Pat
  7. Of course you have a lot more choice if a P or J style bass is what you want, and therefore price can be a consideration. For those of us who require something different options, and price points, can be severely limited. In my current band I play an Eastwood Hooky Bass VI. I've found that the neck is every other Bass VI that I have tried far too narrow and the string spacing too tight, and I've tried every single one I've been able to get my hands on. That means the $1399 plus shipping, import duty and VAT for the Hooky is the entry price point for the bass I need. The alternatives would be either an original vintage Shergold Marathon 6-string bass which is essentially the same instrument but more worn and more expensive, or having something custom made. That puts a new perspective on "what is an expensive bass?"

  9. Thank you. Might go for The Neo ones then. As the carry weight is more of a bother for me. Thanks.
  10. Super smooth sale of an amp to Simon. DPD messed up collection so we decided to meet halfway and in true BC style a car park exchange was duly completed

  12. I think for me it's a bass that costs more than it's worth to me in practical terms. I'm not a fancy player, and I like good, solid, un-showy workman-like tools (not just in the bass sphere, in life generally). I don't have a lot of disposable income so I tend to choose my purchases carefully. My main basses are both Fender Player P's, and I think they're a lot of bass for the money. Therefore, I'd say that an American Original P would be what I'd say was expensive, as, nice as they are, they wouldn't offer a significant improvement in my hands, however much I might like one.
  13. The most I’ve ever spent on a bass was £2,200 on a Lull PJ4 about eight years ago. It was a necessity as I needed a lightweight bass at the time and sold two other USA Fenders to fund it. That was a big investment for me (though ultimately it wasn’t the right bass for me anyway). Apart from that one-off, I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than £600 on a bass. Plenty in that price range and below that work just fine for my needs.

  15. Nice one Steve. Remind me which Altos you're using?

  17. That should be a Sire thing. Exact same feeling with my U5. Became my #1. Period.
  18. It's the law of diminishing returns As basses get more expensive there's a point at which the difference to the next bass up is negligible. I then factor in what I could afford to replace from savings tomorrow. Then I factor in how long a bass lasts - my current bass is 25 years old and has probably cost me £15 a year so far. For me the figure for an expensive bass is £1500. I don't think I'd buy an expensive bass - not this year anyway, although think it is time for a new one as my current bass is approaching a point where it will soon become the Bass of Thesius.
  19. That's a slightly exaggerated definition, isn't it? That said, it's certainly one of the best basses Ibanez ever built. GLWYS.
  20. Agreed - my favourite gigging bass case!

  23. I don't need another 4-string Yamaha. But I'm tempted. Good luck with the sale!
  24. Aye, he had £30 to spend but a Fender cost £100 so he bought the Höfner. If he'd had a bigger budget he'd have bought a Fender, Höfner would never have got the Beatles association lifeline and went bust decades ago 👍
