  2. I'm surprised that Gotoh didn't offer a Musicman / G&L version of the Resolite given that there were MIJ G&Ls and the Musicman EX series. Ultralites will leave visible screw holes but only you will see them, although you could use HB1 tuners. Not as light as the Ultralites but possibly lighter than the originals. Out of curiosity, how light is your Sterling that it has neck dive? Mine is 10lbs but feels lighter as the neck points slightly upwards so I never had an issue with neck dive.
  3. Yes please, @MikeBrooks can you make it?
  4. Hi. I finally got the battery into my Vernier and measured the strings on both guitars. They are the same. The Spector definitely feel under less tension. Then I heard a reasonable explanation. I hadn't considered that the core wires could be different thicknesses, and that's the part under tension. The lower tension ones are more sensitive, good for widdling, but have to hold my breath to keep things even. The high tension ones sound strong, but can only bend notes mid way up the strings. Horses for courses and all that. Which ones to settle for. Probably thick cores, because they help to even the bumps.
  5. Yeah, it's a nice instrument. Mostly good quality, though the tuners quickly died on me (one broke and fell apart and others became wobbly) and had to do a costly swap. And while I was at it, nut swap came as well - Tusq XL eats the cheapo plastic for breakfast. I swapped the bridge saddles for more stability, too. The rest of bits is fine. Frets are nicely rounded. Even the stock pickup wasn't half bad, but I wanted it to have more kick. It's a match made in... well, in some cool but formidable supernatural place.

  10. Those things were beasts - I remember trying one in Anderton's years ago. Tight, articulate, and very LOUD. And, despite the size, they weren't particularly heavy - Eden's Nemesis range were probably the first proper lightweight amps.
  11. Sorry for the late reply Mat, it's 7.25" but if that changes for any reason, I'll post it on here. 9.5" is a typical Fender radius.
  12. I've just bought a cab from Mike, who's a lovely chap and a absolute gent. I was in a bit of a rush so didn't get much of a chance to chew the fat. Maybe next time. Another great basschat deal and one of the reasons why this community works so well. Thank you, Mike.
  13. In 1986 Peavey changed their Fury bass from a single coil P-bass (angled) to a split coil version, while they were at it they also changed the neck from a proper P-bass to a 38mm nut jazz bass neck. You can see the changes from mine below. Left is the 1986 , Centre the 1984, Right the final version.
  14. So....I have no input or output from my amp, and the VU meter is stationary at about 40%. Any advice? I have checked all the fuses. No issue with those
  15. I take it you are used to the Elf getting quite warm tp the touch when working? Overloading the input stage isn't going to make diddly squat extra heat before it would sound incredibly angry. I think your fan isn't working or you obstructed it somehow.
  16. You can't go wrong. Last Friday one of the agents that books gigs came to see us and it was the first time I'd met him. He said to me after the first set what a great bass sound I had. The Fusion 550 is a peach.

  19. Hi all. Hope you are well. I recently switched from using a Trace Elliot Elf to the Warwick gnome ipro, 300w. All was good the first few times i used it, but at one rehearsal, i had my Joyo Tidal Wave in front of it and at the end of the 4 hour session, the amp was actually hot. My signal chain was: Warwick rockbass streamer standard - zoom b1on - dopefx rams head - proco rat- joyo tidal wave - warwick gnome ipro - eden ex112. I tried to get the eq on the gnome kinda flat as i wanted to use the eq on the tidal wave. I understand this isn't done by setting the eq controls on the gnome to 12, i cut the treble and bass to about 10 o'clock and the mids to about 9 o'clock. The gain and volume were cranked on both the tidal wave and the gnome. I was pretty happy with the tone until i went to pack up and found the amp was actually hot to touch. Could this have been caused by running the tidal wave into it and cranking the pedal AND the amp? Is the gnome prone to getting hot? Can anyone recommend a way to use this setup without melting my amp? I'm new to using a preamp pedal but i really like the tone the tidal wave gives me. Do i need to consider a different amp to pair it with? Thank you for stopping by and any guidance you are able to give.
  20. The "bluegrassy" trio did an outdoor busking gig in front of a restaurant at noon today. First time in many years where I have played on a sidewalk, we went acoustic (mandolin, guitar,DB, vocals) except for me on DB who used my Traynor amp to give just a bit more volume. We will be doing another lunch time gig next week and then have a bluegrass festival with the full 5 piece band the following weekend.

  22. We're on the same page. I think that would be a great idea. And it wouldn't have to be expensive. Unfortunately I doubt I could sell the idea. Daryl
  23. Trace tone you can lift comfortably. Handles a low B with ease.
  24. We're gonna need to map an ancestry of it 😜 Who ordered it brand new?!
  25. Crikey, that’s lovely. Great work! GLWTS, someone’s going to get a real bargain.
  26. Thanks, BTH. Yes, the bass sounds fantastic anyway, so I'm not worried about its weird blend control. You had the same idea as Jack and the three slightly different flavoured sounds do seem to be splitting between the coils.
