Regardless of any other considerations a simple graph of bass price versus body timber price makes it clear that the more expensive a timber is, the better its properties as a tonewood.

You'd hate seeing me play a Thunderbird then. I'm far too many stone past being able to call myself stocky 😂 I really want to like the JC, but I think the body is a bit too cumbersome for me. This is the 2nd one I've had and 2nd one of sold for that reason. Maybe the 3rd will be different.......? I know what you mean. This shaped tuners on a bas designed before 1980 don't look right to me...

Had a surprisingly fun gig at Wembley Stadium last Friday watching K-pop sensations Blackpink. Not my preferred musical style (I was taking the teenager) but have to admit that it was a fantastic show. PS since it’s apparently obligatory to have preferences, my favourites are Lisa and Rosé

As a point. My Ripper had a Hipshot on it when it arrived and I couldn’t stand how it looked. I know that’s mental. I’ve seen them look well on Casady’s - but I prefer the largeness of the babicz as I do with a badass 2 on a fender - the aesthetic balance. fenders look right with a badass to me.

I long for a Thunderbird…I got VERY close last month. I’m too stocky for them though - I think you need to be a certain build for Thunderbirds to look right. i do think that’s a me problem. these work wonders on the Casady though; makes them sound better. The volume increase acoustically is 75-100% louder. This translates into monstrous output.

So yesterday (Monday) we arrived in Nashville (self-appointed music city). We were amazed wandering down Broadway at 5pm how many bands/duos/trios were playing in the bars - every bar had live music, some having multiple floors of live music and on a Monday. Fast forward to this morning and making the same walk at 11am, same result! Obviously, most if not all are playing for tips only, and you had to feel sorry for those playing to empty or near empty bars. We spotted at least two musicians playing in different groups to yesterday (one bassist was still wearing the same clothes). Got me wondering how it works out here? Surely you cannot make a living playing for tips only? Do you have to take the early, empty gigs to get later more popular gigs? Are agents involved or does each bar do its own booking? So many questions - you can tell I’m in the second week of vacation and have nothing else to think about 😂

Very nice, those are both lovely. Unfortunately my PB Jack Casady will likely be out the door to make way for the bird. I think the Babicz is what I'd go for if replacing the bridge. I'm just not sure if putting a £140 bridge on a £300 bass makes much sense. Feels kinda like a boy racer putting a spoiler on a Micra.

I hope my bandmate's WP-12 lasts years. I'm not getting another one though. I've just bought a t.bone IEM 75 for £65 used and will get that onto my pedalboard.

Unusually for AliExpress they wanted the unit returned, but made an instant refund as a credit (my choice) as soon as I did today. They have me a QR code for Royal Mail and noticed when they printed the label that it is going to an address in Hounslow - so looks like they may have some kind of generic returns department in the UK.

It's real mahogany - the mahogany family of trees is pretty extensive. Indonesian mahogany comes from the toona sureni tree and is comparable to most other types. It's not as desirable as Brazilian mahogany, but preferable to Indian mahogany. Basswood gets a bad rap because it's often been used in cheap instruments and has an extremely plain grain pattern. No such thing as "quilted basswood"! All Bongos have solid finishes so the grain doesn't really matter, and it's got the right weight and sonic properties, so why not?

Builders came today - starts September 8th. I’ve offloaded 3 and acquired 1. thats good maths that. and it’s been months. I was getting jittery.

My Epi T Bird has a bridge like this as std... Functional, but I think the 3 Point is more characterful.
