A question that just sprang to mind, how does the FM stuff work on the FI when it comes to velocity? The original DX7 sounds like E.BASS 1 for example change timbre quite significantly, is it something you can set at a level or does it change with how hard you play?

The FI would be driven by an arpeggiator. The arpeggiator does the pitch generating using delayed pitch shifting initially with pitch detection by the FI. MIDI doesnt involve any pitch detection unless the arp pedal can convert pitch shifted delay into a MIDI step...probably too big an ask of a boutique pedal. But it would be a cool feature on a dedicated arpeggiator pedal.

My view was based on when I pointed this pricing out to Tech21 they replied with a "care" emoji on their Facebook page. Would you not feel patronised at that? If you exclude the ADAM/Photon series, there isn't a Darkglass stompbox type pedal which is more than £400. Now, the g4m price of the XB driver isn't "more reasonable," it's "slightly less evoking the spirit of Dick Turpin." A slight difference of viewpoint I admit, but for a single use stompbox which has no means of flicking between the crossover/parallel/bite functions and has no preset control and for it to cost more than an HX Stomp still after being reduced just seems like robbery. At £350 I'd probably have one. Maybe the bass elite is a good deal. It seems to be in theory. I'd have to play one. I wonder if it'll be like the PSA 2.0 which is fantastic, but didn't catch on because in that case, people assumed it was digital when it wasn’t and didn't buy it.

I sold a Genz Shuttlmax to Howie and agreed for Howie to arrange shipping New Zealand. The short version is the shipping went off the rails and Howie got stung. Undeterred we hatched a plan B had another go and success. The max has a new home. Great guy great communication and honesty. Have no reserves about dealing with Howie.

Are these all played on a bass?

If you have got the correct tools and are confident using them, then go for it. if not take it to a good tech. IF you are going to attempt a diy job, I would advise ordering two replacement nuts, then you’ll have a spare when you mess up the first one 😄

To be honest, that really isn't my experience! Modern Class D amps do not seem to have the response or attack of hybrid amps or, from what I understand given my limited experience of them, valve amps. That's the reason I got rid of my Class D Mesa amp - sounded great in a room on it's own, but didn't have the response I needed live. This was particularly noticeable when I was playing onstage with a band with a lot of keys and stuff going on, less so in a blues / boogie band with two relatively clean guitars! The advantage with a para EQ is that if you are in a room with sound issues, you can find what frequencies are causing the problems and sweep the EQ centre for that band until the issue goes away. I used to find that with my Mesa mpulse that in certain rooms, it was often the low-mids that caused a problem. If you changed the frequency then you could usually get around the problem with the sound of the room pretty easily. The problem with para EQs is that you can get a truly awful sound if you don't understand how the various frequencies work together! I used to follow the manual's suggested settings (for 'Driving Rock', if I remember correctly) and then tweaked until I got the sound that I wanted. As ever, you don't necessarily need a flat EQ, but you probably don't want any massive boosts or cuts so that you can hear a coherent representation of every note that you are going to play.

@police squad I wasn't doing a hatchet job on Ric, just refuting Michael's idea that 2 grand guarantees a perfect bass. Aye Ric's QC is pretty haphazard but so is Fender's and Gibson's. This TB post from tail end of last year made me laugh. $2.5k US Fender. Passed FMIC's QC, passed Sweetwater's 55 point inspection. Got weighed and photographed for the website. Nobody noticed the missing tuning peg screw 🤣 Insult to injury came when the Talkbass owner bought a set of screws to put it right, pilot hole had been drilled both off-centre and squint 🤣

I really can't fault it especially at the price. I have bought a Tonerider Duke to put in it but not bothered as the stock pup is fine. A fellow basschatter played it and also said it didn't need the change.

Ok but its not now. Surely a rant should be based on the current state of things? Anyway, id get one if the Bass Driver Elite wasn't coming out. I too thought it was too expensive at the £600+ price, but G4M’s price seems more reasonable to me. To me things like the Anagram or Quad Cortex are much more over priced, especially with Valeton and Zoom stuff around and much, much less cost. And DarkGlass stuff has always been expensive for what it is I like tech, but its easy to get bogged down in apps and what you can and cant do, so of rme it doesn't matter if there is an app or not.

Well, I’ll give it a go. Nothing to lose and while I don’t expect to be return it, I’ve had really good customer service so far and I’d be surprised if they didn’t at least offer some advice. I mean, they know people like me are often repeat customers so it would make sense to give ongoing support. I’ve met Sheldon and I think he’s a good egg.
