  1. Past hour
  2. Yep, great track and all the more amazing because of said bass.
  3. https://www.alegree.co.uk/products/vintage-v30-maple-7-8-size-coaster-series-bass-guitar-boulevard-black?srsltid=AfmBOorEETRzDzAHGrbi9FJ8qaHtBxGGvLVbCpEdTTfsunjYlxh19NpI Considering this as a tinkering/upgrade project while my arm surgery heals. Anybody had a go on one?
  4. ALL of this. I teach this bass line every time someone wants to learn slap bass. It's the perfect antidote to over playing, which oft ends up sounding like building a shed with drum kit. And a two chord song! Em - EAug
  5. I'll refrain from recycling the old When Dove's Cry joke..
  6. This is a tough one as every note in this track is perfectly and well placed. A bit of an odd choice from me, it appeared on a Sony compilation CD my mum had and I noted that the singer has the same name as my good friend and band mate, top session drummer Thomas Lang. What was more incredible is the fretless bassist on the track, expertly negotiating weaving in and out of the vocals, unbeknownst to me is a chap called John Murphy... yes, the same John Murphy responsible for the soundtracks of Suicide Squad, 28 days/weeks later, Guardians Of The Galaxy, etc! Ok, pick a note, any note.. 0.54 or 1.07 reaching high. or 1.30
  7. We (The Daub'z...) are quite definitely not a wedding band; we play nothing to dance to (RATM, Muse, Space Oddity, Wish you were here, Radiohead and more...). We have a buddy with an events company; he often supplied the PA and did the sound for our concerts, with heavy use of subs, from his Disco days. He badly wanted us to play at his own wedding, despite our protesting its unsuitability. The day came, we were set up on the gravel track beside the main reception building/hall (so outside, using our own more modest PA...) When the time came, mid-afternoon, we were signalled to start up; after about ten minutes, the groom (our buddy...) came out to ask us to turn it down..! No, we were not loud (that's not our style, and we were playing outdoors...). We played a couple more songs and decided, together, that it would be kinder to everyone to knock it on the head, packed up and left, leaving the happy couple and guests to their revelries inside. We remained buddies, but got no more offers of 'function' gigs, to our relief. :-|
  8. I've been on the other end of that - a friend's wedding, her Dad was paying, so it was a big country house hotel, verrrr posh, but he'd also booked a Jazz band, because he liked jazz. We all buggered off outside (some of us even crashed the wedding in the other wing, because it looked great) and stayed there, while her Dad, her Mum and a couple of their friends stayed in the room and tapped their feet.
  9. We are not a wedding band either, but we have done a load of weddings and none of them have been bad, the last one was a bit faffy, but most of them have been really good. I guess we have just been lucky, the people who have hired us had seen us before and were happy with what they got.
  10. Schecter diamond model T, modelled on the bass designed by Robert DeLeo of stone temple pilots. has original Seymour Duncan pickups (I believe these are the spb2) giving great dynamic range. This bass is so good I bought it twice. I sold it in a moment of GAS, and then spent several years trying to find it again. Very reluctant sale due to not playing anymore. collection preferred from Warrington or possible meet up
  11. Up for sale is this amazing fender highway one precision. Not a massive fan of p basses personally, but this is one of the best I’ve played, and very reluctantly selling as I’m not playing anymore. nitro is wearing in the usual places giving a very tasteful roadworn look, currently strung with flat wounds for old school warm thump. collection preferred but can potentially arrange a meet up somewhere.

  12. I have a similar story. I played in an ‘80s cover band and we did a wedding. Fortunately for us, it was the bride and groom who picked us. However, the bride’s father, who I guess was paying our fee, was not so impressed. He plainly wanted the usual wedding fare, whilst we played things like Owner of a Lonely Heart. His face was not a picture. That said, I played in a band that did classic wedding stuff and we played one gig to a few small kids doing the sliding across the floor thing that they always do, the ‘grown ups’ (italics explained shortly) all stayed in the other room, where the food and booze were. They did eventually move into the ballroom, but only to have a punch up. One assumes that staying in the room with the booze for hours finally had an effect. Always hated playing weddings. If you play a pub or club, it’s more than likely that folk have come to see you, or are hanging around because they like what they hear. Weddings, on the other hand, is where you are the hired help and are often treated as such.
  13. Great bridge at a great price, adjustable string spacing and extra shim to go underneath main bridge if extra height is required 👍🏼 GLWTS 😉
  14. I felt sorry for one couple whose wedding reception we played. We were a pretty authentic Chicago blues band and they said we've got a gig, a wedding!!! Me, alarm bells ringing, "A wedding? We can't do weddings, we're not a wedding band!!" They said, Yeah it'll be great. The bride's father is a big fan of the band. We set up in a big barn in mid Surrey and played the whole night to an empty room. As far as I could see, the reception took place in the car park!!
  15. Waterfront by Simple Minds is all one note (IIRC). Derek Forbes with that one note rhythm, played with a pick (sounds like it anyway), clear and defined for 4 bars, setting up the big chord crash.
  16. That's works with me, I'll send you a PM with the details.
  17. HEADPHONES ESSENTIAL) I have a thing that I have been carrying around for decades whereby I find examples of bass playing where just ONE NOTE makes you go 'wow'. The two that come to mind immediately for me are Jimmy Johnson's Ab (0.21) from Flim And The BBs 'Tricycle'.... https://youtu.be/B0DTMMXYbvU?si=vOd2J5ckRdQqY41t and the Eb slide Tony Levin does at the one minute mark on this video of Peter Gabriel's 'Solsbury Hill' (don't cheat - you have to listen to the whole thing ON HEADPHONES for the note to do it's thing) https://youtu.be/WeYqJxlSv-Y?si=Uy0MMTEDIBmpTLBx Anyone got any other examples of a single note that gives you chills?
  18. These things are excellent
  19. Relax. It could've been worse. You might have typed pickplate.
  20. This correct, and Standard Procedure for tracking down and rubbing out all the traces and debris left behind. CCleaner helps with these chores, but chores they remain. Some considerable precious time spent trying to profit from the offer, and almost as much precious time ridding one of the consequences. There are other culprits, so these measures becomes routine, after a while. My IT career gave me enough knowledge to survive these installations, but not enough to get the Vst on offer..! :-)
  21. Today
  22. Excellent, that suits me as though I use rounds I'm a very reluctant string changer! I was concerned that fast mode might use more of the overtones to make a guess at the note and old strings can be a bit dicey there. Thanks as always for the sage advice and keeping us in the loop. Looking forward to the new update!
  23. sounds fantastic lots of power. 3x10 plus adjustable horn/tweeter just stick a pre amp/pedal whatever in front of it you’re good for great tone and power. Has a dsp preset which can be switched in or out with a subtle limiter. Comes with original padded cover which is decent though frayed on one edge. on decent castors so it’s easy to move around it’s quite heavy but fairly compact can meet somewhere if needed within reason. £480
  24. Nice idea, not seen that one before. That pearl looks amazing too.
  25. Thanks Chris . It's reassuring to know that there are thoughtful Bass chatter's out there , willing to help out when needed !😉
