  1. Past hour
  2. Most of our gigs are play now, pay later - the drummer and I both act as "treasurers" in that some of the gigs he does the online thing and others I do invoices for and collect the money, then we just redistribute it as a straight 4-way split. Generally works OK although occasionally we have to chase up payments.
  3. I find short replies like this sometimes put me off buying from people, if they don’t know anything about the bass then they only have to say so, I understand they might have had some timewasters but we’re talking about parting with nearly £3,500 in cash
  4. No idea. I just checked. Works normally, works ok even with VPN. Clearing the cache?
  5. Come up further north! There’s a pub I regularly play at that’s strictly cash-only. To be fair, they have had free-of-charge ATM installed on the wall outside. So no one needs to die of thirst . On a serious note, it does make it harder for pub managers to ‘skim’ the fee they claim they’ve paid for entertainment. That definitely happened in Ripley a few years ago and the perpetrator got the sack.
  6. Tried this, didn't work. 😬 Now paying for lessons - on the basis that if I don't then practice what I'm told I will be p*ssing money away as well as time. Let's see how it goes by Christmas....
  7. Morning Bass Bashers! Hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to this year's event. I know this is a bit random but is anyone heading for California any time soon? I bought an Aguilar pickup set online from Sweetwater (not available in UK/EU in the foreseeable future) and had it delivered to a friend of my daughter in Ventura CA 93003. The plan was that she would send it over to me, which seemed like a good idea at the time. Now we've discovered that shipping will cost over £100!! Ping me a PM if you can help. Thanks, Mike
  8. Strange one at church last night. New songs,I'm fighting off a cold, the IEMs were playing up and the sound engineer was relying on me to sort them out, and so the band couldn't always hear themselves. Fab drummer though, so all I did was play a rhythm with roots and thirds while squinting at the chord chart and try to hear myself from the FOH. Finished up one of the most groovy rehearsals we've ever had! 😃
  9. My board which is “always on” (apart from the tuner mute!) and I DI into our desk and use IEMs.
  10. Yes, there arn’t many compatible things where you get paid ‘after’ you’ve done whatever you’ve been paid to do. The band that played my lads wedding got paid before hand. All the power is with the big brewers though. And with pubs closing at the rate they do round my way you’ve got a high chance it will be a different publican 10 days after a gig! 😂
  11. Well, think of it as freelance work with a company. With that you invoice your client and they pay either within 30 days of receipt or at the end of the month. (Obviously that doesn't apply to your plumber or decorator fixing stuff in your home - you usually have to pay immediately - but I bet it does apply when those same tradesmen work for a company.) The alternative is to be paid cash for the gig but risk being stiffed for part of your fee with some stupid excuse (not enough people in the pub, etc.) or be asked to commit fraud by signing a receipt for a higher amount than agreed so the landlord can pocket the difference. So there are two reasons why this is happening - accountability and, as you mention, the slow death of cash. You almost need a mortgage to buy a round these days, you have to use plastic... As long as you keep track of the band's finances, the system should work. 👍
  12. Indeed! Before I bought mine I didn’t believe it would sound as good as it does and hooked up with an old band mate to try his before I ordered. No, the band leader hasn’t heard it yet but I’ll take it to the next service we do 😈
  13. Everything - Stereo MCs
  14. That’ll be my evening playing Cure songs and then it’ll never get sold 🙄
  15. Mainly as the doubling, so maybe lightly into flange territory. I’m thinking I’m probably going to sell it and try the El Capistan or the Chroma Console. But I’ve never heard a modulation pedal as capable as the subtle doubling/thickening this does. Almost a faux stereo space, just adds a bit of air. The subtly would be wholly lost live but this board is all about subtle variations on a theme to keep playing along to tracks interesting.
  16. I really want to keep this but have a few projects at home that need attention so looking to shed a few bits. Wicked pedal with knight fall, tarkin and T65 Octaver. All with individual clean blends, plus a master blend, and a master on/off switch. Effects stack in parallel for an absolute wall of awesomeness. Controls are really intuitive and easy to navigate. Velcro on underside, really wicked artwork. It's a wonderful pedal. I'll wrap box and post carefully. Any questions please shout. Selling cheaper than purchased, price includes postage second class. Can meet between Kettering, Bedford, Stevenage, Farnham areas of UK, or pass to my singer in north London... Drummer west London.... Blurb from cog website: Hellraiser" Custom Bass Multi-Effects Grand Tarkin Bass Fuzz, Knightfall Distortion and T-65 Octave all in parallel. Four level controls for mixing Dry signal, with only one ever active depending on which combination of effects are selected. This is very much an expansion on the concept of the T-65 Octave and parallel sub octave in general. Artwork is an adaptation of the Puzzle Box from the 1987 film Hellraiser, with oversized Moog-style knobs to finish things off.

  17. Fantastic Jazz Bass from Mayones. It is upgraded with Seymour Duncan pickups and a Sadowsky preamp. Original 2 band Mayones preamp is included. It weighs something around 4.3 kg. Balances perfectly. Action can go as low as you want without buzz. Fantastic professional grade jazz bass. I am located in Netherlands. Can ship within EU. I had many deals on this forum without issues.

  18. You can also get good punchy electric tone out of a U-Bass if you really go for it with the right hand. This took a bit of practice…
  19. The deco feels like the perfect ‘The Cure’ pedal!
  20. It looks a lovely bass!
  21. I had a quick look at the pics on the link (Nedcom.NL) and now, whenever I close down the web browser, I have the pics on my screen ! I can close the pic, but it re-appears next time I open and close the browser. Any ideas?
  22. Ok so, covers band world here. Playing the usual mix of pubs and clubs and have always gone home with cash in my pocket for the night. But now it really seems to have swung to online payment. I can understand that many of the establishments take payments for booze etc via card and phone so there's less cash on the premises, but for and old skool oldie like me, it sucks. As an example, we played a pub last Saturday (which I think is Greene King) and they informed us that we'd be payed online via whatever app it is that we are signed up to already. What bugs me is they quote payment for ten days after the event.. which is an arse pain BUT.. if you don't want to wait you can forego 2.5% of your fee for immediate payment.. even ruder! We play a few of this chain's pubs so it's becoming more of a regular occurrence for us. So do you dump 2.5% (not much but it's the principle)? Also you either need a trustworthy designated banker (chortle) or a group bank account, the management of which is an arse pain too. I don't like the way this modern world is going. Guess I'm very out of date now. 😔 Moan over. 😁
  23. Did he actually hear it? I was gobsmacked the first time I heard the double bass noises coming out of a tiny uke bass. Not sure what I thought I thought it was going to sound like, but certainly not that!
  24. They do say, "Get a hat and get ahead", or in your case, "a head". 😊
  25. An other option is one of the shorter-scale acoustic basses. I’ve replaced my U bass with a Taylor mini-bass. Light as a feather. Other, cheaper, options are available. Ibanez, Harley Benton are two that come to mind. I’ve found that with a feedback-buster in the sound hole it can sound great through either a rig or PA. Lighter technique with the right hand and a bit of EQ experimenting helps a lot.
