Hoping to identify this 15" driver....think it's a Fane...
Phil Starr replied to tonewheelkev's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think that is right. What are you intending using the speaker it for? The Fane's of that era were pretty unreliable and would end up making magic smoke if run at the full power rating. If I remember clearly they changed the voice coils to something fireproof not long after this generation of drivers but I think these had 'treated' paper coil formers. If you are going to use it I'd suggest limiting the power to less than 50W. The only reason to use it is if you are doing an authentic restoration of a historic cab but treat the old lady with respect. She was born in the 1970's/80's. Somewhere I have Fane's book of cab designs which used the Fane Classics and the then newly introduced Crescendo range. thre's some huge cabs trying to squeeze every last bit out of the low powered speakers of the day. -
Blue Aran hasn't had any black Tuffcab for months. Your best bet is to get a litre tin of Armacab from Penn Elcom. It's very similar to Tuffcab but thicker in consistency and with a higher pigment content. It'll cost £27 delivered. To get a decent finish, you'll need the foam rollers from Blue Aran. Unfortunately, they're out of stock of those as well but they're due in mid-December according to the website. In current weather conditions, it'll take some time to dry. So, leave each coat to dry overnight - and don't allow the paint to freeze, as it will then be useless.

Origin Effects BassRig Ampeg B15 Fliptop recreation
Quatschmacher replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Effects
Yes, the SV has more deep bass than the Fifteen, but that’s to be expected. The high switch on the SV allows for more clickiness of finger/pick attack of the string to come through, even with the treble knob rolled off. Obviously having the mid control on the SV gives you options that aren’t available on the Fifteen. Mine are hooked up in series but I’m not running one into the cab sim of the other, if that’s what you mean. -

So if I’m understanding properly - your thoughts at the moment are that the SV has more fullness etc. in the bottom end and also more range at the top? Are you running one into t’other? -
Vapors of Morphine in Coventry last night. I didn’t get the chance to see Morphine back in the 90s, and I’ll take this as the nearest to it I’ll get. Great intimate gig in a record shop, with someone live painting it! Excellent stuff!

A recital of piano music by Anthony Burgess, played on Anthony Burgess’s piano at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation. A musicologist sat next to us warned us to expect ‘second-rate Walton’ and I think he was being harsh, but Burgess definitely a great writer who could also compose rather than (as he apparently wished to be) a great composer who could also write. Pleased to report I didn’t viddy any ultraviolence and also slooshied no Ludwig Van, although there was some Ravel in between the Burgess.

Hey Tony @Hellzero any further info or pics you could provide would be hugely appreciated. I have a friend who is a violin maker who I imagine would be able to do the work (I worry that if I try it it's going to make things a whole lot worse), but I suspect even he would be more comfortable with some reference points. Strangely enough, Chuck Traeger doesn't seem to have a chapter on introducing new soundholes Really quite excited about this 👍

You're lucky to have such a good Tech you can turn too. Unfortunately I'm not so lucky where I live. Great Techs are worth their weight in gold 🤗💛

Big Low End started following Xvive A58 wireless system
-
Just got one. Always previously nervous to gig a wireless due to fear of interference and dropouts, but the reviews on here and elsewhere led me to take the plunge on the A58. Not gigged it yet but I can confirm that it preserves the full tonal range of the bass and I can’t detect the latency. Total background silence playing it through a Fender Rumble placed 3ft away from our home broadband router and Hive central heating remote unit. Fingers crossed it works out this well on stage.

Yes this is him. I couldn’t find his credit on the flyer. thanks for sharing. I'm still amazed at the clarity. Was really a great night. I thought they was going to an encore and do one more song but they didn’t. I wanted to go and speak to paul. Sadly didn’t have a chance. support act was ace also. Great night man.

I've just snagged a used one for cheap off ebay. Drab green unfortunately - would much rather have had the fandango purple. Hope I get a good one ! will update on findings later.

W1_Pro started following Alnus Basses - Anyone got one?

Thats very good value for a handmade neck, IMHO.

@steviedee have you got it yet or are you still havering?

Yeah, my '78 one is as heavy as a small planet. They have a sound all their own, with shades of Thunderbird but brighter somehow. Noticed your comments about the differences in frets - mine needed replacing a couple of years ago, but can't complain for an instrument that's well over 40 years old. Considering putting some Cobalt flats on for a change. Have always used rounds on all my basses (explains why the frets wore out!) but some flats are nearly as bright as played in rounds so will see how it goes. I really like the RD but there are always naysayers as you point out. Put a Hipshot bridge on mine as it's easier to intonate than the three point Gibson version. nice set of basses you have there mate, just the problem of which one when you gig!

Merton started following Alesis DM5 electronic drum kit
-
This was my son’s first kit, it’s spent the last year disassembled at his mum’s house though and it’s time to move it on. Missing a foot but everything else seems to be there. Will supply with a spare drum head but stool not included. First photo is from when it was set up at my house a few years back, others all from today. Collection only due to size etc…

Fender blacktop jazz bass. Only played a few times, excellent condition. Includes original fender hard case. Made in Mexico, 2013 model. Champagne/pearl colour. I have swapped the pick guard for the purple tortoise shell. Original black pick guard comes with sale. A few of the pick guard screws have some rust on. All specs can be seen in the last few pictures. Sad to get rid of it but I am no longer the bassist in a band so have little use for it. Sounds incredible, the dual split coil pick ups give an amazing tone. Any questions feel free to ask.
