  1. Past hour
  2. Depends on your view of art to reinforce the status who or challenge it. &nbsp Someone earlier on described Glasto as a sunny and extended Jools Holland session. I reckon that’s not too far off the mark. Anyway, off into the beautiful sunshine myself!
  3. I may have been at that one... what year was it? I went to 3 guitar/bass shows around 2001-2006ish and met Jim Marshall at all 3. I still have 3 Marshall posters (one of Jim in front of a wall of Marshall stacks, one of Jim and Nico McBrain and one of Hendrix) all signed by Jim and made out to me and all with different dates on them. Two are on my studio wall next to a Birdhouse flyer signed by Tony Hawk fly, a few signed set lists from various gigs and a Tim Russ (Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager) signed promo photo! Not sure where the third is Jim poster is... 🤔
  4. The Japanese Metros are some of the best basses in the world, regardless of money; glwts
  5. I guess so. Without a thread derail though it must be kind of obvious to most people now that there are deep structural issues with capitalism and neither right nor left have a solution. The best I hope for is not to turn on each other and make things even more ugly. So anyone preaching division or proposing violence as a solution whether with a guitar or ballot box can just fcuk off.
  6. Many, many moons ago I did a stint on the Conklin stand at a guitar show when it was held in Docklands. Honestly no idea how it came about; drummer at the time had a Yamaha endorsement and he seemed to have this lucid connection (by association) with the UK importers of Hamer and Warwick (who were based in Ascot at the time). So we drive up. Get lost in Docklands, are followed, then pulled over and questioned by the police. We're late and arrive, I'm in the booth and told to play the seven-string. I notice that the bridge doesn't fit the body shape and was told to try and cover it up with my right hand while playing. I do 45-60 minutes and it's all over. I'm rewarded with an EBS Octaver pedal for my trouble and as I had a lanyard, I have blagging rights (so free Rotosound strings and I get to meet Jim Marshall). What a day.
  7. Recent gig in France. Yes, it would look better if I had stood up but I was knackered😆 The ending came as a bit of a surprise as there should have been a further 16 bars of guitar for the playout but hey-ho, that's live music.
  8. Saw the stuff on bbc four or whatever it was - a bit disjointed with not much of many groups. So saw Alanis, which I guess was ok, wasn't that impressed with you ought to know, seemed like she had got over it! I guess ok if you were there. Saw En Vogue - not generally my sort of thing, but very professional and tight, the bass player was great, and there was the funny contrast of 4 black girls on stage, then panning across the most white middle class audience you could possible get anywhere. Then a few individual songs, Yusuf Islam, one song, I didn't know, my wife did, seemed ok. Then biffy clyro, never got them so stopped watching at that point. then went back for the live catchup (which is odd, I guess that makes it not live!), so I could see the glass beams gig which I thought was pretty good Haven't seen any today but going to look if pulp were any good.
  9. I ended up going down the BT7 route. A very slight ream was required to accommodate the ferrule. Done two Cal2's now. All good 👍
  10. It's a superb example of Carol Kaye's bass of choice from 2002. These don't come up too often. Condition is remarkable for the age. It's even got the plastic film on the cavity covers. It's Korean-built and we know they know how to do neck-through properly. The build quality is stunning as is the grain of the ash wings. The neck profile is what I'd call slim modern J. Controls are: Vol, Blend, Treble, Bass. It's been deep cleaned and set up beautifully (med/low) with D'Addario EXL170BT strings. that's a balanced tension set. As per all my rosewood board instruments, it's been treated with Montypresso. Frets are level and polished to 7000 grit. All electronics have been checked and all pots cleaned. New battery fitted today. Truss rod is perfect. It's 4.4kg. I've got proper packaging and am happy to ship insured at buyers expense, which will be about £30. If you're undecided and fancy trying it out, I can usually accommodate a try-out with some notice weekdays or weekends.

  11. I sometimes play 'fingerstyle' like that, but usually 2 or 3 fingers (sometimes 4 for trills)
  12. It’s all performative stuff, it’s very punk and all that. And of course one man’s terrorist is another man’s revolutionary. If you’re upsetting Keir Starmer and Kemi you’re doing alright by me. (My tongue is very firmly in my cheek. Please do not consider this an endorsement for the IRA!)
  13. Well first, i had both and so well aware of what they can do. Thanks for confirming it though 😏. After a few weeks with both, and never once trying to get an SVT tone, i just missed the BDDI. i gigged with one for at least 20 years. Never did i want an SVT tone, i just like what it does to a P bass. If thats close to SVT fair enough, but it’s certainly not what a real SVT rig sounds like in my experience and ive never wanted that sound. The BDDI does much more than an SVT sim anyway. I dont run with the blend higher above 10 o ‘clock so it’s not a hugely coloured sound. The NUX has at least 2 SVT IR’s, so i disagree that both aren’t trying to do SVT. The NUX is way more versatile than the Laney as far as features. The Laney on the other hand sounded bland and weak. EQ is subtle and drive is cold. Probaly why they arent as popular as other preamps. Nice enough i guess but a bit lacking tone wise.
  14. To an extent I agree, but kind of draw the line at supporting terrorists and paramilitary groups. I feel the same about people who get all starstruck by gangsters and serial killers. Not much glamour or glory in being a terrible human being.
  15. From the Ritz to the rubble - Arctic Monkeys
  16. That's exactly how I am with my Will Lee 5er. Had a lovely light Japanese Modern, but wasn't being used after I got the WL. GLWTS
  17. Yussef Dayes, on now. Excellent. Pino's son on bass.
  18. Weren’t we all in our 20s? Joe Strummer et al all said stupid things in their time. Personally, I’m all for politics in music as a child of the 80s. It’s better than the apparent apathy that’s prevalent among so many of them now.
  19. Is that a US thing or does it apply everywhere?
  20. Here's my Markbass cab up for sale. It is in near new condition and includes a Roqsolid cover. The top carpet has a couple of indents where the amp was placed on it. Other than that minor sign of normal use it's as new. It has been used several times at rehearsal at very low volume levels and at one gig where it was only used as a monitor as I was going through the PA. It is a great cab. A real one cab solution weighing approximately 18Kg or 40lbs. I'm 70, under 11 stone, have osteoporosis and have suffered a spinal fracture and I'm happy to lug it around. Specs briefly are 2 x 12" ceramic speakers 600 watts Piezo switchable tweeter with 2 levels of attenuation 57.8 x 60 x 47 cm https://www.markbass.it/product/mb58r-122-p-4/ Tone is very Markbass, i.e. effective. Collection or meet up only. I'm in Kendal, Lake District, NW England.

  22. As new still sealed in packs, 3 sets available £11.50 per set including postage. I have been trying various brands of strings on a number of basses, whilst these are very nice I'm going to Dunlop's for my fretted Warwick. To my ears the Eden's seem similar to Rotosounds, maybe not quite as 'zingy' initially.

  23. Kent Armstrong Bass Humbucker for a 4 string bass. Circa 1990 when I purchased new and still in excellent condition and virtually unmarked. It's been in two of my basses over the last 35 years and sounds great. I think these were handmade, add £7.00 for UK insured postage.

  24. Bill, If you did drive that fast the New Hampshire cops would be on you pretty quick I think.
  25. Because of the stupid old way instruments are sold, with an official price and a street price, which is often 30% less and is the price you really pay.
  26. Further price deduction - now £799
