  1. Past hour
  2. I have one too, I really like it,
  3. The GP12's are reasonably complicated amps. Probably why I prefer GP7's but I do have a series 6 GP12 and a 250 GP12 SMX, both hum free. If I had a penny for every minute I spent trying to track down a hum on a GP12 I'd probably have quite a few quid by now. There are at least three power supply points that have smoothing caps, the output board, the tube circuit, and the pre-amp board. Dublier caps on the output boards are in my experience very durable. Unless they are obviously leaking or bulging they don't usually cause problems even after 20-30 years. Not to say they can't cause issues. Worn dirty jacks and loose or tarnished ground points are very common noise generators on these amps after many years and IMHO always worth a check, especially the back board, before getting into scraping hot glue from boards and components! 🙂
  4. Mike Brooks told me about Bobby Vega turning the pick so he uses a non-pointy corner to strike the string. I tried it and it's OK, it's different. I haven't stuck with it but I've focusing on other aspects of technique recently.
  5. Going back on topic... Anything by REM
  6. The Precision Bass of bass amps. Just work in every setting 👍
  7. Signature sound I would have to say no as none of my 4 basses sound the same. With regards to this specific question it has to be my Broadneck Warwick Thumb 5 no matter which strings or amp it goes through. I had to "learn" it's ergonomic profile however but the sound is totally worth it to my ears.
  8. The only downside to these - the earlier ones, maybe the current ones are ok - is the tweeters weren’t particularly good, and could sometimes rattle with notes lower than low E. But it’s a cheap easy job to swap them out (I got Ashdown to do mine( and then you have a nice sounding light portable cab for not much money.
  9. I’ve looked at all of my gear to see if there’s anything I can sell to get to £1700. alas. No.
  10. Wrong forum, soz.
  11. I’m selling my Entwistle PBXN pickups… used this on my Squier P-Bass for over 2 years… they delivered a great solid output and punchy tone… a noticeable upgrade. 💷 Price: £25 collected from either Stevenage or Peterborough 📦 Can post for an additional £5 ⚠️ Note: priced to sell… no screws included… sold as seen Great value without compromise in tone… feel free to send me a message any time. You can check out some reviews here: Photos:
  12. This came up as a served advertisement while I was shopping for new strings (don’t ask). It seems like you can pick up a brand new Fazley DB kit for £200. https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/double-bass/fazley-b-sb-900-4-4-double-bass-with-gig-bag-bow-and-rosin?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=ADC_Bax_UK_NBD_Shopping_Own-Brand_bucket2&utm_id=23191023039&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23191023039&gclid=Cj0KCQiApL7KBhC7ARIsAD2Xq3AioZBKqiKZNwZrsYRae76SKQskh5g9HxzM_AoZY15DVkeyQSFswmMaAnwVEALw_wcB
  13. Today
  14. Ditto with Mrs WH. She'll often hear another bassist and say something akin to 'He sounds/plays like you'... and I rarely get it straight away but she's often right. She's attended a few Bass Bashes and she can hear me and knows when it is me playing (and NOT because I play the same bass line every time) amid a cachophony of bass!
  15. That's a shame! I'll probably still give it a go. It wouldn't be a problem on stage, but I only need the main volume knob at '1' for home practice and it's a little annoying.
  16. Not many bass related pressies for me, but I did get some dosh and have just spent it on..... Xvive a58 - this means instead of standing perfectly still a few meters away from my amp, I can stay still up to 30 meters away from my amp. Gator pro go ultimate gig bag - should keep things nice and comfy when out and about. Some plectrums - wanted to try a few different gauges/types. I'm probably most curious about the felt one I have on the way!
  17. My main band is a blues/soul trio which I assumed would be P bass with flatwounds all the way. Not so. I use a Yamaha BB604 active bass with roundwounds. It’s a very loud bass which pushes my amp to the edge of distortion when you really dig in, or ease off for a really textured, chiming sort of warm rasp which really fills out the space in the trio format when needed. Play softly near the neck with your fingers and it’s smooth, dig in with a pick by the bridge and it’s a full-throated roar. It’s a wicked sound. If I have any sort of signature tone, it is accidentally that one.
  18. Those capacitors were the first thing we changed on the GP12 (picture from a few pages back) but it didn't stop the hum...
  19. As @Lozz196 said, if you like regular Guinness, then give it a go. It's really nice and I prefer it to the regular stuff tbh!
  20. Certainly odd. Lol
