I've used a ton of Tech 21 stuff...BDDI, VTBass, Geds, GT2, RPM. The only one I didn't get along with was the VT Bass, which I disliked as soon as I put it in my rack. The racked Ged had QC issues that were never fully resolved. I'm currently running an XB Driver, but it hasn't left the house yet.

As a big fan of Ovation basses, I foolishly clicked on this and now can't unsee the truly fugly bridge, manky neck, and ludicrously oversized and garish pickguard. No way that's an original Ovation body either. Listing description is entertaining though (in a bad way)........ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/357084855391?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20250324084321%26meid%3Df29f6e8b07d74cb187fb636f1baec04f%26pid%3D101949%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D357084855391%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2WithMLRPboosterAndUpdatedFeatures_BP%26brand%3DOvation&_trksid=p4375194.c101949.m162918&_trkparms=parentrq%3Ac6be4a5f1970a2c1838a6dccfffcf258|pageci%3A7cce5cfc-5695-11f0-8fcd-72e0a1cc61bd|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage

Brand new Future Impact V4 VIP fresh out the box and only played with at home. Sounds and works amazingly well, but just can’t get myself round to sorting out the computer software to make the most of it. Bit of a wait for these, so grab a slightly quicker bargain! Full details here: https://www.pandamidi.com/store/future-impact-vip

I just bought a very nice carbon, full suspension mountain bike. Mrs XFR is not yet aware of this purchase. I may use her new clothes line of "this old thing? I've had this for years"

One could instead use an earth pin repair kit. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/315722101136?_skw=replacement+plug+pin&var=614139214463&itmmeta=01JZ3AWDX0KBZVACP3MC8BXV3T&hash=item498280f190:g:0HcAAOSwxiBm1tjf&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1eTrMiAGCJNorG0l7hwVVWPKgUQq0m0Wsden2GMNXeci9%2B%2Fdt8F7Yz6zHc0mcLCZwslevuhVCQayf1i1c5PTrfq4nBAXPsmRCsLlhy9nMVT2WsfbI2crLzT2y2Mq%2FMtkMg6MYvmprscq5FlM%2Fo5sc4AyailVWLNHN%2BR8J2lfk6WpJM6DhbDudxDgsXgHua%2FWExvC2yhsJmIjWu4624OriFaFuCeCYgDyDnsFhC8CBj9N%2B9ijt2mzZpelclfsqne56GkDhnXZbGCwkqpF85%2F7pKtmqR%2Bp3FB5wpwdqP2l3jV%2Bw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBM3t7x6vhl Its purchase preserves both the pencil and @Marky L, for future and alternative use in the band. I have one in my kit case, should the previous superglue-and-dowel repair to my own adapter fail. -

I understand that tastes differ wildly but I'm talking about accessibility rather than taste. If it 'goes over the head of people who have a general enjoyment of music - meaning that they do not understand it, not that they don't like it - and the technical aspects are all that recommend it then, IMO (and other opinions are obviously available), it is failing in some kind of fundamental way. It doesn't disqualify it as a form of expression but I don't think it fits in my understanding of 'good music'. Just as on the other side if soemthing is entirely vacuus but lots of people like iit (Rock DJ being a prime example of this) I also don't think it qualifies as 'good music'.

Mine also has bought me one she saw me looking at. I’ve told her that I ever had to sell everything it would be the last one to go. There’s some people buying and much worse accumulating with a frenzy and I don’t think it’s wrong for a partner of any gender to question that if you have children or are watching the pennies. We’d be quick enough to question their need for 30 pairs of shoes or twenty handbags

TL;DR: It's a super Flea Jazz. You know you want it! This is my Flea Jazz, won back in March in a competition run by BassBros (thanks, Will!). They’re based on a 1961 Jazz given to Flea by a fan, but this one was built in March 2019, so just over six years old. The relic work by Fender Mexico is excellent, and a great deal more realistic than some of the ridiculous stuff turned out by the Custom Shop recently. Given that it is pre-dinged and rubbed front, back and sides, the bass is in great nick. A friend pointed out over the weekend that the fretboard looked a bit dry, so yesterday I gave it some TLC (and lemon oil) and it’s really bucked it up. Weight is 4.1Kg (9 lb). The bass is strung with rounds, I assume Fender’s own, but I cannot be sure. All I have done in the short time I’ve owned it is replace the strap buttons with Schaller S-locks in nickel finish, to go with the vibe of the existing hardware. I had intended, if I’d decided to keep it, to do a bit of careful relicing of the bridge, pup covers, screw heads and the S-locks themselves. The machine heads (reverse-geared) are lovely vintage things with a wonderful patina, so I would have left those as they are. However, I’ve been out of work and on the sick for several months now and I need cash, so I’m slowly thinning the herd when necessary, and it came down to a straight choice between this and my SBMM Joe Dart as to which was going to have to go next. This is a lovely thing, but the Ray has a beautiful neck, which I find faster and more playable, even though they’re both 38mm at the nut and the Flea undoubtedly has more tonal options, with its twin concentric knobs. Anyway, she’s gotta go. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! I’m not looking for trades (see above) and – looking at recent sales here – I think £775 is fair, especially with the S-locks. A new Flea Jazz is £1349 in places like Andertons and GuitarGuitar. I’ll also throw in the little teeny-weeny D’Addario tuner you can see in the pix (original machine-head screw and strap buttons included). And there’s a plush Fender Deluxe gigbag, also pictured. I have a suitable box, so I’m happy to post to the UK at the buyer’s cost (it’ll be about £25 insured). Or you can collect from Mapperley in Nottingham (tea/coffee and biscuits available). Or I’m up for a meetup within a 45-minute drive from home.

Too true Neeps. Too true. 🥺
-
Very true. Although of it was a big old heavy thing ( Trace / Peavey etc ) then I could understand it more. As a portable one cab solution I would have thought it was ideal for someone, but there you go. Maybe my location doesn’t help either as well, although I’d be happy to meet up somewhere if that helped my sale.
-
No, I don't get this at all. Mrs. Neepheid supports my hobby. Occasionally she encourages me to buy a bass I like - genuine conversation: "Do you like it?" "Yes." "Then you should buy it." She's even bought me a bass before. The kind of nonsense highlighted by the OP makes me sad, because unfortunately for some other people it might be true
-
Thanks. It’s mad isn’t it? I’m selling it for a friend’s widow along with some other stuff. I’ve sold a few pedals from a large collection for her, all at knockdown prices compared to their true worth. Got loads left, so not sure how to sell them without giving them away. I guess with backline the effect of IEMs must be one reason the market is so static, along with the holiday period and money worries for many folk.

That’s it, still good fun, and for me it’s the taking part that counts, and hearing what others have made of it. I genuinely can’t imagine anyone other than me wanting to hear one of my tunes more than once anyway, so maybe it’s best they are spared the experience in the first place? 😂😊 -

How many of us are in this position?
Woodinblack replied to snorkie635's topic in General Discussion
No, the worst I get will be an eye roll or 'another one?' a 'thats ugly' - the basses are mostly paid for by my gigging money, so it is largely self supported, and most of the basses hang on various walls.
