Cultural appropriation and covers
DF Shortscale replied to DF Shortscale's topic in General Discussion
Can you really separate the music from its meaning and purpose though? That's kind of what I'm asking. If that's ok in music, is it ok everywhere else? Should you wear a swastika t-shirt because you enjoy the shapes and colours, and ignore the meaning? I don't think this is an easy question to answer btw, music is different to visual media and meaning and purpose are multi-layered and change over time, as others have pointed out, but it's interesting that there is no clear consensus. Some people suggest that the meaning doesn't matter, others say it does matter but as long as it's approached with care it's ok, and a few think it really matters and it can't be ignored. Lots of grey areas. -

In mint condition and barely been played, no dings or marks. Active 2 band EQ and pull switch passive option, both sound thunderous, the active treble control can get quite fizzy when you really wind it up. Totally no issues, there is no case or bag but I do have a proper shipping box. Shipping UK £12. Collection IP31.

12-string Custom Build - Which Builder and Why?
Wolverinebass replied to Sean's topic in Bass Guitars
Or you could just arch your hand and play through the strings with your fingers and the difference is quite minimal from a pick. -
There's also the American side of 80s music - glam/hair metal, swingbeat, early rap, all that kind of thing, as well as all the stuff that was big on the eastern side of the pond. Regarding the image, yes, I agree - there was a lot of enormous hair, bad fashion and inappropriate makeup back then, and their photo spreads in the likes of Smash Hits and Look-In sold as many records as their music did. But the surviving bands from that era who are still out there playing their stuff are now the same old blokes as those who would be playing that stuff in cover bands, just with a larger costume budget. Duran Duran are all in their mid-60s now, with their audience not too far behind, and they're still selling out tours!

That’s EXACTLY the challenge, showing what the amp is capable of for the average real world player. The videos are very real world, Gus is a great player in multiple genres and has extensive experience with the new amp. He snuck it out on one of his tours, stealthy like, and there were no issues or problems over numerous shows. I worked with Doug Johns, a great slap player (and a lot more than that) while at Genz Benz. Well worth checking out, imo.

I live in Horsham, I saw the kid a couple of years ago and he’s pretty handy! Don’t know who he is but very unusual (and pleasant) to see a bass only busker 😊.x

Sharkfinger started following Sterling by Musicman Ray4

Really nice Ray 4. Low action and can go even lower. Nice satin field to the neck. Currently strung with rounds. 3.9 kg. Ray4 in great condition. The only Mark I can see is a small dink on the back. I’ve seen bases in shops in worse condition than this. Oddly, there are two screws missing from the control plate and no holes drilled. Must’ve come from the factory like that I was going to drill some and put screws in but never bothered. not sure how to price this, as prices seem to fluctuate but given the condition I’m gonna go for £300 delivered or near offer less if collected and can meet somewhere in Hertfordshire or Essex

PainInTheBass started following Horsham Bass busker
-
I heard a person playing some epic slap bass in Horsham yesterday afternoon but I was in a rush to get to an appointment so couldn't stop to watch. By the time I got back they had packed up and gone. A rare thing to encounter a busking bassist, especially of that calibre. Has anyone come across this particularly gifted busker before and knows who they are? If so could you point me in the direction of any Facebook/YouTube/other socials links? Many thanks 🙏 👍
