    Does anyone else here still own a riverhead unicorn? I feel like it's increasingly rare to see them nowadays but I absolutely love mine and will likely keep it forever. Would love to see photos if anyone else still has one! I've still never been totally sure on the history of them as I've heard conflicting stories about the production, but if anyone knows or has any sources then it would be great to hear as well. Added a couple photos of mine below, the bridge pickup is replaced giving it a bit of a unique look but it feels almost impossible to find one that matches the originals haha.

    On Saturday Hurtsfall played at the OxJam festival in Beeston. Over 100 acts split across multiple venues, this is the 3rd year we've been asked to play. This time we were on at 3.30pm at The Berliner, the second band of the afternoon at that venue. Not the easiest of load-ins with the venue being very busy so there was nowhere really to leave our gear where it wasn't in someone way. However it turned out that lots of the people were there specifically to see us play which was very gratifying. Just about enough time between bands to get set up and line-checked. Technical problems of the previous weekend were behind us and we played well, and even felt brave enough to open with our newest song which most of our audience wouldn't have heard before. We're taking a break from gigging until the end of November to work on new material and for recording the album.

    Rare and beautifully made Mensinger hollow body lightweight short-scale fretless bass with Eye Poplar finish and fretless Ebony fingerboard. Very nicely constructed and very light at around 3.2kg. This has had very little use (occasional home use) and is therefore in near mint condition. The current price for this to be custom built to this spec by Mensinger is around £1600, so this is a bargain. The bass comes with a Mensinger gig bag, Schaller strap-locks, and is fitted with flat-wound strings.     If he can do what he did replacing the truss rod in one of these - https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/maruszczyk-elwood-absolution-5a-gloss-blueburst/ - then replacing the one in your beloved Mighty Mite neck should be a walk in the park! (there's a blast from the past name, I bought a Warmoth neck in 1992 and both those names take me right back...) I watched a video he posted the other day of him actually removing a fingerboard. It's meticulous work, methodical and steady, and explains how I literally can't see a single mark around the edge of the board. Amazing stuff.

    The handful of times I have been asked to play on someone else's recording, I have been chosen specifically for my sound and playing style. Therefore I turn up with the bass(es) required to replicate what they have heard me do previously. The most recent session I did was for Rodney Bakerr (Wax Trax! Records) where I used a 1960s Burns Sonic and a 5-string Gus G3.

    Time has come to let go of this great bass rig. Had this for gigs but only got through one before the band had issues again. If I play again will be going to a power amp/modelling pedal and In ear setup as most of the places I can practice are quiet or have cabs available. Head sold ..... Markbass MB58R 104 PURE Bass Cab 4ohm 800watt version This is a light exceptionally portable bass cab With great bass response which is surprising after you have carried it in. Has an adjustable tweeter and is just a great cab. Weight is around 16kg so an easy one person lift. Sounds great is great would keep it but is just taking up spare room space. Crossover Frequency: 3.5 Khz Frequency Response: 40hz to 20khz Sensitivity Db Spl: 103 Db Impedance: 4 Ohms Reflex: Rear 578mm x 600mm x 470mm (£500 on its own but collection only on the cab as wouldn't have a box etc) Any questions feel free to ask.     Apparently, the Modulus made early necks were a myth (rrp of a modulus neck was almost as much as the rrp of the G Bass), and they are not actually carbon necks as marketed, they have a maple core with a carbon wrap. Still cracking basses for the money of course, but really interesting marketing choice from Peavey; the manual literally says it's a Carbon Graphite neck with no mention of it being mostly wood. Crazy but there you go. Still want it!

    Difficult to tell. The OP referred to starting bass for sessions, but they're not new to bass as that might imply as their first post was nine or ten years ago with a Youtube video, second one in 2023, and this is their third post.

    I've never owned a Wal. I played one in Livewire in Cardiff in the 80's and it was lovely. Never really got around to buying one when you couldn't give them away and now I really cannot help thinking they are overvalued. But, I've been saying that since they were £1500, and this one is seen to be a bargain at £8K, so I'm probably wrong about that. When they were 'new' in the eighties I remember having a chat with my old bandmate Rob Crocker who was a luthier of some note (he's now sadly passed away). He was a contrarian, as are most luthiers of a certain age, but when I raved about the Wal I'd just played in Livewire (it was £800 brand new iirc), he remarked that he thought that was stupid money for what is, after all, a bolt on neck bass. He had an Alembic in his workshop at the time- which may have belonged to Ravi from Livewire, I'm not sure- and he went on and on about the woodwork and the electronics and how top notch it all was. I own a couple of Alembics now and they are completely amazing things, I could probably buy either of them with a bit of effort for less than the asking price of the Wal. I have no idea what I'm trying to say, apart from the idea that value really is in the eye of the beholder, and I've never understood why Wal - good as they are- is the ONLY bass guitar that really commands this sort of cash (as a brand that is, rather than becasue of having belonged to someone famous).
