Very sad to be doing this, but up for TRADE ONLY (for now) is my lovely Yamaha TRB-IIF 5-string factory fretless bass in trans blue. It's a 35" scale factory fretless version of the well-regarded TRB-II basses. Made in Japan between 1998 and 2004, these were top of the line instruments, featuring Yamaha Alnico single-coil hum cancelling pickups and Yamaha's TRB 'Q-mix' 3-band preamp. This is an absolutely lovely example; there's some very small dings on the top but otherwise it's amazing for a 25+ year bass. The serial no suggests it was made in 2000 (if I've read this guide correctly). It has 18mm string spacing, and is currently fitted with DR Legend flatwounds. I think I have some Rotosound tapewounds if you would prefer. A lovely low action and amazing fretless tone. Got Basschat strap holders on ATM - I'll remove those and the strap unless you desperately want them. I picked this up a couple of years ago in a trade with TheGreek of this parish for my fretted TRB1005J, but the sad fact is I don't play enough fretless to justify keeping it, and I have some gigs coming up where a fretted 5 would be more useful (I have a Lakland 5 but it's strung E-C for one particular gig - I now need something strung B-G for other stuff). So I'm looking for a 5-string, ideally an active Jazz or equivalent with at least 18mm string spacing. Active isn't a deal-breaker, though, so happy to consider anything that's got 5 strings and 18mm spacing. Trading for a fretted Japanese TRB/TRB-II would be ideal; I might consider a TRB1005J plus cash if it's in natural. In a perfect world, I'd be happy to trade (plus adjustments as necessary) if someone had a TRB6 they were looking to shift on. I'm not really looking for 4 strings, however nice they are (even if TRBs), sorry. Not really looking to trade for anything else either ATM, though if you are desperate to buy this for cold hard cash, message me. I'm based in the SW so this is probably best for SW-based people as I'd prefer to meet up, but again if you're desperate and have something that fits the bill, but you're elsewhere, message me. Thanks for reading!

This is a new one on me. But, I've been through as many basses as I can be bothered to look at on Andy Baxter's site and I think I agree, but it got a bit hazy after so many. What did strike me though, was that if they did have the "step" or "notch" (we need to decide how to describe this), they had a full set of them. There are no examples on Andy Baxter's site of basses which have a mix of both styles.

Hi all, Here we have my Fernandes Gravity 5x. Bought last year as a back up to my Warwick, but now being sold as I'm trying to move away from 5s and am looking for a different sound. There's not a lot of info out there about these, as they seem to be quite uncommon. It dates from 2008 and is made in China. Twin single coil pickups with vol, vol, tone. Simple as it gets. Tonally it's got a quite aggressive sound, the twin Jazz pickups are really high output, with a really punchy sound. You'll note the front pickup is moved towards the bridge compared to the usual J/J set ups, definitely gives it a funkier, mid-rangey sound. The tone pot is effective all the way round, giving a wide sweep of different tones (and a really funky rear pickup sound). B-string was the biggest surprise for me on this bass. It's very taught and defined, better than many other basses I've had at 4/5x the price. It's in 9/10 condition. It recently had a brand new input jack installed and plays very cleanly across all frets. A nice first foray into a 5 string for someone, or a great reliable, good sounding backup. Weight is a lovely 3.9 kg. Collection from Moreton in Marsh, which is located on the Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire/Warwickshire border. Will happily meet up within an hour's drive for handover, or a bit further for a small petrol contribution (purely due to the low cost of the bass). Thanks for looking!

In the end it’s just a piece of wood…

I'd go for string-tree functionality over adhering to aesthetic tradition any day. On the 54 style I built, there was never a doubt I would use a 3-string tree to have continuity over the break angle across all the strings. The only people who would notice are a moniority of bassists and they're the ones you wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with 😉

Sold Simon a Warwick Streamer! Not only does he have the best name anyone could possibly have (not that I have a vested interest) a nice guy, easy transaction and good comms. He came to meet me in classic Basschat fashion (motorway service station) to collect! A credit to Basschat! Enjoy the bass!

An IEM is not a musical instrument amplifier. The idea is that it takes the place of wedges for monitoring. FRFR speakers are designed for sound "reproduction" vs sound production. The electric guitar and bass were designed to be used with a musical instrument amplifier not an IEM. It works and if you like it or prefer it that's cool but know it for what it is. When I'm at home and play guitar or bass I don't look for my IEM's to play through.

Hi all! Here we have my Markbass Little Mark IV, purchased new from Andertons in August 2023. Still with box and bumf. 500w at 4 ohm and 300w at 8 ohm load. Features the revised 4-band EQ with a more usable frequency points than previous models. Bi-band limiter. 3 way switch for Flat, scooped, or foot switch setting. Old school filter (pretty much all I used). Head has a very sweet, clean and full range sound, with that trademark midrange (if required) -super refined tone IMO, and it paired very well with my MB cab. Is in excellent condition and unmarked apart from where I had some Markbass stickers on the top of the amp, which have *slightly* discoloured the black top, although this could just be glue and fade away. I've barely done that many gigs on this (probably 8-10 at most), as I reverted back to my TC head due to it having a tuner and adjustable compressor (and less bothered taking it to dodgy bars etc) so has been sat in a bag most of the time I've had it. Collection from Moreton in Marsh or happy to meet up/handover. Can post if required. Any questions, fire away! Thanks for looking!

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread

All 4, and thanks for the offer but I'd rather muller some Musiclily knockoffs than some OG knobs because I'm going to be making press fit knobs work with solid shaft pots -
Also at TFF on Sunday The Luke Jackson Trio were pretty damn good.

How many do you need? I’m sure I have a couple -
This is good advice - try a battery

This board is doing what I require atm. A Bright Onion 3 button aux switch is on its way though.

Look at these 3 rear headstocks and the discrepancy between the tuners linked to defective cutting presses. Some even have that step on the lower side, when some don't, and some are a mix of these features. And one have 3 tuners with this feature, but not the 4. That said, it's very interesting! Thanks again @wateroftyne, really!

Bought Carl's FlyRig v2, top man to deal with, very pleased with the FlyRig and the transaction. 👍

Hi all! Here we have my Markbass Pure 2x10 cab. Purchased from new from Thomann in August 2023. 400w power handling 2x10 speakers Hi-Fi 'pure' tweeter - this is a bit snappier than the tweeter in the energy series. A scarcely believable 10.5kg in weight, which is the reason I purchased it. It's an easy one hand lift and a saviour for those of us with dodgy backs. Has that typical Markbass sound - fat, detailed with a very clear midrange. I've used this with my Little Mark IV and probably got the best live tone I've ever had from a cab. Easily loud enough for most venues up to mid-size. Selling because I'm moving over to DI through PA and a smaller (and far less fun) monitor. More or less unmarked and as new aside from some slight foot marks where my Little Mark sat on the carpet lining on top. Collection from Moreton in Marsh, or will drive a fairly sizeable distance for handover/meet up, as my feedback attests. No offers please. Any further questions, please ask! Thanks for looking! Simon

I recently bought a Broughton Subsonic and Buffer Bandwidth Amplifier from Mike. The communication was great, and the pedals arrived quickly and were as described/pictured. I can't fault the transaction at all. Thanks!

I think you’re right. I had a 76 Precision which had an accident and took off part of the front part of the headstock. It split along the grain and was easily stuck back. But supposing this happened on a tour ( the schedules back then were torturous) no opportunity to get it to a luthier or even get to a shop for some wood glue. May also explain why he switched to the Gibson bass or that might have just been following the fashion for semis in the 60s.

Decided to go a bit stupid with some upgrades. Anyone able to hazard a guess as to which hipshot tuners would be the easiest replacements? Im looking at the technical drawings but im about as technically minded as a rock

Several bands and solo artists last Sunday, at Tredegar house folk festival. Ending the night, was the brilliant Steve Knightly. TFF is a small festival, with lots of free acts and world / folk dancing troupes - which is always entertaining. You can spend 3 days watching/ listening to mostly unknown artists for free. There's a good CAMRA real ale & cider bar, and a small selection of festival type food. On the Saturday & Sunday, there was also an arts, crafts & food market, which was probably around 30 stalls. Having seen Steve with Show of Hands as a duo, trio and 4 piece, he's also really good as a solo act. Very entertaining, even when he had some real tuning problems with his guitar. As usual he played 4 or 5 instruments. He did a great, slow version of the Waterboys "Fisherman's Blues"
