  1. Past hour
  2. Bass recorder and piano accordion. The acoustic accordion has the very cool 'Stradella' button board which lays out the bass and chords in 4ths/5ths but just does accordion sounds. I also have a digital piano accordion which can generate bassoon, double bass etc., or drive a MIDI synth. The bass recorder isn't that low in pitch, there are great bass and contra bass which actually get low down.
  3. I agree with this one... my fingers don't enjoy the feel of flats.
  4. It's worth just noodling at first and getting used to playing scales across the full width of the neck. Also try playing songs you know with less movement along the neck. It's quite easy to get lost at first, and muting becomes a fair bit harder. You'll start by incorporating the odd low notes. The more you switch the less you will get 'stuck' in one mindset so don't abandon the 4.
  5. I Can't See My Feelings - Budgie
  6. Thanks. The 4 string version is available now and until the garage phoned to tell me my turbo was dead I was seriously interested. They sound like they function as I would expect. In a good way. Ho hum.
  7. Welcome to Basschat. You'll know this stretch of road then...
  8. That's really tough; I hope you can bring it to an amicable end.
  9. We could blooming well do with some now; the farm is really struggling for water at the moment.
  10. This one - https://www.thomann.co.uk/harley_benton_powerplant_powerbank_mk2.htm It has powered my board for well over 8 hours...
  11. Yoga mat or a karrimat. You can cut a strip off the end and still use it for its intended purpose.
  12. He has sent out two emails saying how good the gig was and how so many people congratulated him at the end. Difficult.
  13. Not had this very long, bought this and a les paul copy to see which I preferred, and the les paul won! Only just though - it's a great instrument. Very playable neck, not heavy, and the neck pickup sounds particularly good. I've modified it slightly - tortoiseshell pickguard and cream covers and knobs. As you can see, I didn't do a very good job of enlarging the pole piece holes to fit the bridge pickup cover. I will include the original white guard, covers and knobs in the sale. Also put Graphtec string trees on. Lovely satin black finish, with the relicing on the back. The fingerboard is either reliced or played in, or both! It's great...! It's from 2012, by the way.

  15. If you haven’t seen it in ‘build diaries’ I’m about to turn this modified Musicmaster into a lovely fretless.
  16. I’ve tried to find something for the same reasons as you, but so far haven’t had any luck. So, “subscribed”, as they say..!
  17. Tone worms??
  18. I suggest fretting slightly behind the frets not on them, and trying to lift your fingers off more swiftly and cleanly. The slow release right over the fret is the cause and I can duplicate it here. It's easy to address fretting position, a little further behind the fret will do. Learning a clean release will take a little more effort. A good exercise is to play a series of staccato notes, not too fast, lifting your fretting finger between them but leaving it very gently in contact so it mutes the string. Keep practicing until you can get a series of clearly defined and separate notes. This will help you learn a clean, fast release and also start to develop the prized skill of muting. Good luck!
  19. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
  20. If anyone was thinking of fitting a Hipshot Xtender onto their Sandberg Lionel you need a BT7 which is the closest match as advised by Sandberg Only slight drawbacks are the ferrule hole needs enlarging very slightly and you need to drill 4 small holes. Other than that easy fit and works great!!
  21. It’s only £500 if you are buying 2 of the DP3x pedals - chorus was an optional extra! If you are nearly all the way there, then its all gravy, you can get a chorus effect by tuning the octave strings slightly off from whatever you tune your fundamental to

  23. Looks very cool, not tried this but have owned and used several ashdowns and only has positive experiences. Treat. Yo. Self.
  24. ACG SLG 5 32" Scale up for grabs. This is a really interesting bass with a fantastic spec, John East preamp with passive tone control, ACG single coil pickups, acrylic impregnated maple fretboard, 3 piece maple neck, quilted maple top, black limba body, reverse headstock, Gotoh tuners, hipshot bridge. It plays and sounds great, I'm just not comfortable gigging a 5 string. Comes with a TGI Flightcase. Collection from Margate or I can box it up if you'd like to arrange your own courier. Here's a video of it in action Note the control cover still has the plastic on it.

  25. Sadly I'm not sure I can justify £500+ for that pedal when I own gear that does 90% of what it does... if I can get the other 10% for £150.
