Geek99 started following Harley Benton flats - they're a bit good!

They do them on 5 string? Colour me interested … my sire v7 is a bit bright though otherwise very jazz bass. Maybe it needs flats …

I wonder who manufacturers them for Harley Benton. I might try a set for curosity.

If it’s a sanded down sub neck there’s likely still some flecks of black in the wood. I had mine sanded and the luthier said he’d have had to sand too much off to get it all out - mine was a Sterling profile neck though.

Mine were refunded on eBay, so it didn't cause me an issue. -

We allowed straps, leads, and consumables, so a stand seems OK to me.

I never quite understood Jazzes back in the day. Loved the look, the balance. and that scooped sound for slap and pick work, and the bridge pickup for fingerstyle, but making them work in the mix in a band context (especially one with heavy guitars) was always a bit of a challenge. Two things fixed that - firstly, and most obviously, dial the bridge pickup down about 20% from maximum, or, if you have a pan, dial it a bit more towards the neck pickup. Instant barky mids. Different to the mids on a P, but just as punchy. Secondly, compression. Jazzes LOVE compression. Don't be afraid of adding loads, the amount of additional thickness you get is worth the small loss of dynamics. I don't play Jazzes any more, but that's what worked for me.

Nicely specced bass here for not a lot of money if you can collect - Markbass pre, Panga Panga and Walnut neck, licensed Hipshot Ultralites. Should be lightweight with a good low B as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127101673259

I was playing devil's advocate. I think more likely some people get a sound/feel they really like and simply aren't motivated to try hard with other instruments. Me, I get motivated by playing different instruments.

I won't buy a bass I can't bond with so I can say some Fenders are ick, but mamy are very nice. I've put plenty back on the shelf, sometimes with real regret. My two most out-there p-sounding basses are a Westone Thunder 1 and a Harley Benton kit build with mega cheap pickups! Personally I prefer the mellower sound of vintage style pups.

Hi We're finding it difficult to track the dates when band members are free for future gigs, which makes bookings difficult to arrange. Does anyone know of a good system (outside of Google calendar or a spreadsheet), like an app or website addon?

Payson Bridge Conversion on a Dingwall Bass
WHUFC BASS replied to WHUFC BASS's topic in Bass Guitars
I did look at the Bass Direct Payson bridges and I must admit that it is tempting. -
Fenders are far and away the most copied basses - in a way, all basses could be said to be copies of Fenders - so it's no surprise that there are plenty of basses out there that are close enough to be indistinguishable, and a good few that do the same thing even better than the originals...
