  3. Watched 2 minutes of that... Jeez what is so difficult about carrying a TRS>XLR cable with you when you have a Tonex, Stomp et al?

  6. I use Rotosound 40-60-80-100 roundwounds on my Rics.
  7. On that front, I have an EBS Microbass 3; it is an absolutely excellent piece of kit. Its only downfall is the "distortion" channel; if it had two identical ones it would be perfect (they do a Stanley Clarke acoustic bass version, but it doesn't have the tuner). Apparently the Microbass is the pre- section of their Reidmar amps, so I have one of those to try. The last jam I did I took along a Trace Elliot amp and played it through a large cab; it sounded rather good with just the pre-shape button pressed.
  8. Both of my AV2’s had the holes in! Lovely bass, GLWTS. 👌😎
  9. That's going into my vocab book
  10. Very nice. And that secret CMC pedal looks interesting 😛
  11. Thanks all for the advices. Im toying with the idea of a programmable sansamp so i can have one setting for the p bass and another for the ric with a higher gain and tad more bass. The ric is off to the setter upperers tomorrow for a set of Elites Groundwounds on (hoping the high tension doesn't affect the small amount of tail lift but that's another story). Early days yet but ill persevere
  12. I had a 4003s/5 for a while; the styling amused me, but it didn't feel like a Ric to me and I never quite gelled with it; I sold it back to the person I bought it from after a year(@6feet7). I played @Happy Jack's and his was the same. As for HW, he has a good reputation for producing replicas to order, including some of those instruments RIC never made. I have a faker from another UK-based maker (DC) who has stepped back a bit; it was originally made as an 8-string, but the neck couldn't cope and it was re-purposed as a 4. That sort of hints at one of the pitfalls: a Ric neck can be lovely and slim, but can't handle high-tension/heavy gauge strings and adding an extra one adds 25% more tension which can have structural implications. I'd expect HW to be well across those implications. Also, for info, Retrovibe do 5-string faker pickups. Also (#2), some real RIcs (4004 Laredo/Cheyenne and the 4003S/5) had Schaller 3D bridges, so there'd be no harm in using one of those. Pics of my 4-nee-8 string faker.
  13. Great basses. GLWTS
  14. I can source a robust box for the bass. Bicycle boxes re a good option. The price, which is already below what these basses sell for on eBay is firm. Thanks for your interest.
  15. It shouldn't make any difference. The whole point of a DI box is that it takes instrument and/or line-level signals and converts them to balanced line for the mixing desk. Whether the DI box is active or passive should make no difference to the impedance it presents to the input signal. IME a good passive DI is slightly more reliable since it doesn't require a power source or phantom power which may not be available, and doesn't cause problems when connected to equipment with non-standard earthing.
  16. A Precision will tend to be louder than a Ric, but the Ric is more subtle and you have to work a bit to get the character. You might need to up the Gain a bit for the Ric. When in mono mode, winding back one of the Vols a smidge can make it louder. To get the absolute best you can use the Rick-O-Sound (stereo) output to run it to two amps and then set the controls to suit. A Precision does what it does very well; if you're stuck playing roots & fifths below the bottom 5 frets then you're as well sticking with the Precision. The Ric realisation comes when you do more adventurous stuff and notice how the sound gets thicker as you go up the neck and more growly as you play lower down. They really are a very expressive instrument. Perhaps it's better to think of it as starting afresh rather than a variant of a Precision.
  17. Interesting, but ultimately very frustrating I believe that an Uberhorn 4 owner had to do similar, I remember reading about it on here somewhere, ah, here you go >> Really hope it can get sorted without too much pain, such a beautiful instrument! Eude

  19. Now there's a thought, a custom 8 string...
  20. What Do You Do For Money, Honey ? - AC/DC
  21. Not really, or at least no connections to start with. Our singer got all the gigs in his alter-ego of our manager. He simply contacted loads of similar but better-known bands through Facebook asking for supports and pulled in a couple of favours from local venues as a result of his last band. It paid off quite quickly as our 5th gig was a Psychobilly all-dayer with The Meteors headlining and we found ourselves playing an early evening slot rather than being on first at lunchtime. It also helped that we always put on a show visually and musically. After that the gig offers started coming in steadily from all over the country and we could have been gigging almost every Friday and Saturday night had the money and logistics been right. By contrast the covers band was happy to plod along doing roughly one gig a month at the same handful of local venues.
  22. For sale my Gibson 2011 SG, with Gibson fitted case. A few slight Dings (as pics show), but plays and sounds great. Previous owner has changed tone capacitor. Price includes Insured UK Mainland Delivery
  23. Money's Too Tight to Mention - Simply Red
  24. Going through the spares bag and think I’m happy to let these go… but this may change! Images to follow Basswitch Enhanced OD £125 Boxed I really dig this drive for its versatility and tones. It’s basically two voices in one unit in that the tone control works like a eq curve shift. At one end of the range it sounds ampeg/scoopy and as you turn to the opposite end of the range the eq curve shifts to a mid bump. It’s a very full sounding drive and really fills out the mid-range especially useful in a trio etc. This one’s a bit rare as not many produced before the basswitch guy retired. I have this, their comp and the basswitch iqdi- love their kit and it all sounds wonderful! Duality Duzz £90 boxed Two voicings available which can be swept through with the related Duality knob. Classic muff style sound to more gated fuzz which work well for the octopus+ fuzz synth type tones TL:DR Big dirty fuzz tones in a wee box! Simples! Early run made in Seattle (by Spencer at 3LA I think). Says on the base I can check if it’s useful info. Markbass Compressore £100 no box Works as a valve stage in its own right and a very capable compressor which uses the tube for the compression. Not really keen to shift it but I flip back and forth between this and another unit. Add tube warmth to any rig and I think it’s a bit overlooked as an actual proper voltage tube stage on a pedal board. FT Electronica £70 sub octave based on the ampeg sub blaster? Really simple and small footprint. Sounds great!

  25. I’ve been running this setup for the last couple of gigs for testing, the same basic components as my ‘main’ board, but a few slightly different flavours: Polytune Mini 3 -> Fuzzdog Mr Creosote (Phat Phuk B diy) -> Schu-Tone FLOverdrive (custom BB Bass Pre clone) -> CMC Audio 🤫 -> MXR BEF -> MXR BOD -> Schu-Tone Finn Chorus (his Replicant Jr circuit) -> Olympic MKIIIs. Powered by a Cioks DC7 on a PT Metro 16. Still dialing a few elements in, but I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Little bit more saturation than my very clean Linden EQ ‘main’ board, but it’s very controllable and dynamic, which is fun. Si
  26. I have a 4003 by HW in black. It is awesome. I'm going to get another one this time in White wth checkered binding. It sounds exactly like it should
