  2. I long for a Thunderbird…I got VERY close last month. I’m too stocky for them though - I think you need to be a certain build for Thunderbirds to look right. i do think that’s a me problem. these work wonders on the Casady though; makes them sound better. The volume increase acoustically is 75-100% louder. This translates into monstrous output.
  3. So yesterday (Monday) we arrived in Nashville (self-appointed music city). We were amazed wandering down Broadway at 5pm how many bands/duos/trios were playing in the bars - every bar had live music, some having multiple floors of live music and on a Monday. Fast forward to this morning and making the same walk at 11am, same result! Obviously, most if not all are playing for tips only, and you had to feel sorry for those playing to empty or near empty bars. We spotted at least two musicians playing in different groups to yesterday (one bassist was still wearing the same clothes). Got me wondering how it works out here? Surely you cannot make a living playing for tips only? Do you have to take the early, empty gigs to get later more popular gigs? Are agents involved or does each bar do its own booking? So many questions - you can tell I’m in the second week of vacation and have nothing else to think about 😂
  4. This is so sad, I’ve just been reading that Audere are shutting up shop citing rising costs and availability of vital components. I’ve got one of their preamps in my Frankenjazz and it is absolutely fantastic. There is more info here on their website: https://www.audereaudio.com The landing page now just reads as follows… Audere Audio is Closing Audere Audio has stopped taking new orders for preamps and accessories. We are struggling with too many electronic and mechanical part availibility and pricing issues which means we can not build the affordable quality preamp we have traditionally offered. Instead of offering a sub par product we are closing the business. If you have already placed an order then you can expect it will be completed and shipped as normal. In some cases we might not be able to build the order due to part availibabiity in which case we will be contacting you as soon as possible to discuss what alternative configurations are available. If a subsitution is not possible then your order will be cancelled and a refund issued through PayPal. The audereaudio.com website will be expanded to contain support information for current owners of Audere products with links for each product type we offered. Thanks for your trust in our products and support of our business over the years David
  5. A P with Blocks?.. Pair of Pups?.. Curiouser and curiouser said Alice...
  6. Very nice, those are both lovely. Unfortunately my PB Jack Casady will likely be out the door to make way for the bird. I think the Babicz is what I'd go for if replacing the bridge. I'm just not sure if putting a £140 bridge on a £300 bass makes much sense. Feels kinda like a boy racer putting a spoiler on a Micra.
  7. I hope my bandmate's WP-12 lasts years. I'm not getting another one though. I've just bought a t.bone IEM 75 for £65 used and will get that onto my pedalboard.
  8. New... from Earnie's Balls...
  9. DM'd 👀
  10. Ah, nice! That's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of. Did you have e any issues with height when fitting it?
  11. Unusually for AliExpress they wanted the unit returned, but made an instant refund as a credit (my choice) as soon as I did today. They have me a QR code for Royal Mail and noticed when they printed the label that it is going to an address in Hounslow - so looks like they may have some kind of generic returns department in the UK.
  12. It's real mahogany - the mahogany family of trees is pretty extensive. Indonesian mahogany comes from the toona sureni tree and is comparable to most other types. It's not as desirable as Brazilian mahogany, but preferable to Indian mahogany. Basswood gets a bad rap because it's often been used in cheap instruments and has an extremely plain grain pattern. No such thing as "quilted basswood"! All Bongos have solid finishes so the grain doesn't really matter, and it's got the right weight and sonic properties, so why not?
  13. Builders came today - starts September 8th. I’ve offloaded 3 and acquired 1. thats good maths that. and it’s been months. I was getting jittery.
  14. My Epi T Bird has a bridge like this as std... Functional, but I think the 3 Point is more characterful.
  15. Made by a Mr. Tony Rider, 'Tone' to his mates.
  16. I don't think anyone else though you were trying to take over. Knowing you're not alone in a situation can definitely be therapeutic.
  17. Clearing out some stuff, and I don’t use this so time to move it on. Excellent 9/10 condition, works fine and has a new Duracell fitted recently. 18. Re tapping and other showboating styles, I was around Edinburgh during the Fringe for years and saw and chatted with a lot of street performers, and I feel that short-form, algorithm driven social media favours similar tactics to that. A lot of the performers who could dependably draw a crowd weren't necessarily doing something you'd watch a 3-hour show of or have as your all-time favourite album. The "wow, he's doing what with the instrument?" factor tended to be the big draw that got people walking by to stop. So lots of slappy-tappy-percussive looper performers, gimmicky or extravagantly faux-aged instruments, quirky arrangements of recognisable pop tunes, an unusual outfit or vibe, etc. Grabbing attention in the short term is everything, and I think TikTok and much of YouTube works the same way.
  19. Well, I finally got the Pickguard/scratchplate/Bit of clear plastic off (whatever it’s called)… I like it a lot. I might try the card trick as mentioned by @ezbass with some black card to see how it looks down the line but I do like it off for now. Got to say, I’m really enjoying this bass. The neck is superb! It’s a joy to play. As previously mentioned, the tone doesn’t blow me away and I’ll likely swap out the pickups in the future for something with more ‘growl’, but it does have its own unique sound, albeit a little reserved. I’ve committed myself to learn to read music this year outside of my gig stuff. And, I’m getting half decent. But, after getting this, it’s been like starting again. But, I’m really enjoying the process of learning, by forcing myself to fret more notes rather than open strings which is helping me familiarise with the B string more. Anyway, life story over, this thing is cool!
  20. I don't hate them, but they're very "polite". The MMC/MME MM pickups were decent in terms of tone and output, but didn't really have the MM sound. Their cheap Mk1 pickups are ubiquitous on basses from the Far East and are fairly terrible. Low output and not particularly pleasant-sounding.
  21. Some assembly required.
  22. We're going to be doing some J pickup A/B testing at the SE Bash. If anyone wants to bring their Toneriders along that would be fab. Obviously, loaded in a bass 😄
  23. I've been known to double tap in a 'duet' with the guitarist. I even had someone come up to me afterwards and say how epic it was!
  24. I have a Warwick Thumb NT4 i bought in 1989 and love it. Its a keeper and has one of the best necks i've ever played. Its just a bit heavy to gig these days and doesn't suit the Glam band. Did have a Streamer on loan when my Thumb was sent back to Germany after the electronic module failed. Sealed unit and could not be repaired locally back then. Dave
