How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
kwmlondon replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like a reasonable goal. Do you have your own material or would you want to write it as a band? -

I kind of understand where you’re coming from, my back having got significantly worse over the last couple of years all I take to gigs is bass and Behringer BDI21. If there’s an amp there great I’ll use it, if not BDI21 to FOH with a monitor mix, this works fine and the band all seem fine with it too. I still prefer the sound of an amp behind me - at the same volume as the kit I should add, no louder - but my overall preference is for my back not hurting, hence said Behringer. I doubt I’ll go IEM due to the bands I’m with being unlikely to, and I think once I stop gigging with these I’ll be stopping gigging completely.

Very handsome OLP MM5 five-string natural-finish passive Stingray-alike (some dispute online as to whether these were licensed by Ernie Ball Music Man or simply that the headstock shape was). It’s in pretty good nick (see pix for some very minor dings and wear, especially top of headstock) and definitely does the Ray thing, from clank to warm P-bassish. These were generally considereed at least as good as - if not better than - the first Sterling S.U.B. entry-level Stingrays that were around five years ago. I bought it a couple of years ago to experiment with fivers and, though I had none of the common issues with the transition from four to five strings, I’ve really had no need for the B, so it seems to be a bit wasted on my wall. I’ve got a Sterling Joe Dart Signature one-knob to scratch my passive Stingray itch anyway (and I’m really loving it!). If I feel the need to drop from low E, I’ll possibly add a Drop D tuner. String spacing at the bridge is a rather tight, but still very playable, 17mm. Nut width is 44mm. The neck finish is shiny. I suppose it’s gloss, but not at all sticky. Weight is a comfortable, but not lightweight, 4.5 Kg (9lb 14oz), there’s no neck dive and it’s fine on strap or lap. Currently wearing Rotosound 77 Jazz Bass flats (the bass – not me!), which were about £50 new. I’ll hang on to them and replace the original Ernie Ball Slinkys (I think that’s what they are, anyway). Alternatively, I’ll leave the flats on for another £30 and include the rounds in the sale. Similarly, it’s currently sporting Schaller S-lock strap buttons. I’ll restore the original buttons or, if you wish, leave the Schallers on (with associated strap mountings) for another £15 and enclose the originals. So: Bass with original strings and strap buttons: £225 Bass plus flats: £255 Bass plus Schaller S-locks: £240 Bass plus flats and Schaller S-locks: £270 Clear (as mud)!

I am selling my Barefaced Super Compact bass cabinet. Price is £500. I bought the cab on this forum from @FinnDave in March 2024. It is a 1x12 cabinet, with a silver cloth grill. The cab is rated at 600w / 8 ohm. Cover is included. These are incredible cabs, and super-light. I am only selling because I have subsequently bought more Barefaced cabs! Collection preferred. Not looking for trades. Thanks

W1_Pro started following 15 or not 15? What do you think?

I use a Markbass 1x15" combo (not the Jeff Berlin one) and a 1x15" extension cabinet. I like it. Its a nice compromise between musicality and carryability IMHO. Always had a soft spot for 15's.....

I am correct in assuming that is a euphemism right?

FMC 1210UL and 112UL cabs from Germany

I've got a single iGig, which I bought secondhand and have had for years. It's great when you are just taking a bass to a gig and don't want to carry an extra bag. You can get virtually everything that you need into the gigbag (even many small amps). I've also got a iGig double bag that did a lot of gigs and is still OK, with a little bit of visible wear. That can get heavy with two basses, but that is something I quite liked at the time - more difficult for an opportunistic thief to nick! These days, I'm generally using a Mono Vertigo for my main bass and a Mono Sleeve for the spare. They have a lot slimmer profile and therefore take up less space / easier to jam into a car with loads of other gear. The storage on the Vertigo isn't bad and I can get everything that I need onstage into the pocket, but I do miss the top storage pocket for car keys & phone, etc that the iGig bags have. You have to weigh that up against having to carry less bags. Pretty much every time I use a gigbag, it's to carry from the car to the venue. The one time I had to walk any distance to the stage (across a Butlins camp in Skegness), it was with the double iGig bag carrying two basses, which was a bit of a nightmare!

First off, I do own some amps. Mesa Subway D-800+. Got 2 of em. An Epifani UL901V2 with a custom tone stack and 2 ohms capable. I paired these with either my Subway 212s or my Subway 410s. I own 2 of each. While these are IMO the best amp/cab combination to get great sound. I have found better options. 4 years ago I switched to IEMs. With a Quad Cortex and various other pedals, I now enjoy. I just picked up the Anagram last week. I have built several pedal boards with various devices such as (but not limited to) the Le Bass. Subway pedals. ReVolt. CabM. And a few others, All in all I estimate I have 6 pedal boards. 2 are Quad Cortex based. So what freedom am I finding? I no longer gas for amps. No matter what's out there. I'm free of interest. The IEMs rock. And sound so much better than trying to run an amp. Whether it's a small pub or huge stage gig. All I gotta have is a pedal board. Bass and my wireless units. Pure freedom. Wireless cover 300 feet in every direction. I tried to find where they would start to lose signal. Never got far enough out. I just don't need to move 300 feet from my signal point. So happy to be free of amps. I will keep the amps I have. They may come in handy one day. But gigging with amps is over. And needing more is never gonna happen. No dragging a 410 or 212. No more volume wars with the guitar player. IEMs truly set you free. And! Wait for it. If you buy decent IEMs (like I did). The sound you get is pure magic. I even still experience that "thump" we all know and love. Probably some kinda weird effect. Like still being able to feel a lost limb. But satisfied I am. I get some people will never part with their amps. I guess they like hauling cabs. I guess they like having ringing ears. But for me amps are so 1985.

Great looking cabs, Gareth... Never heard of the FMC brand before, but if you're a fan of them, then they must good! The 1210 in particular looks like a great one cab solution... Very sorry to hear about the impending redundancy btw. Best wishes with whatever your next steps are job wise and GLWTS.. 🙏😊👍 -
