Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?

Actually no! A friend gifted me the Jaguar, which was very gratefully accepted. -

Dark secrets lure in the ocean for the foolhardy surfer, shattering the seemingly idyllic beach life, in this unsettling electro surf metal piece: Programmed in Reason 5, based on a 1st take recording I did of my tenor bass, used as a full sample loaded to the ReDrum machine in Reason.

I received the CD yesterday and it's so good that I listened to it 3 times in a row. I can only recommend it. -
Cheers - I'd best check back in at 11am on Tuesday to see where it's got to!

I got the blue limited edition version of this compressor; it was £30 cheaper than the ordinary black one. More good looking too... Opinion after a couple of days... I don't exaggerate the use of compressors; I don't see them as an effect, but something that is always on. You don't notice the Pedal76 that much until you turn it off. Also - if you push it hard into somewhat overdriven tone, it curls the hairs on your toes in a very pleasant way. Lower ratio and high input, and then drive on high... ❤ If you want more possibilities to tweak the tone: buy an Origin Effects or an Empress. If you want an always-on that is just there, this is a winner. Good price, nice design and no matter how stolen/copied it is from the original UREI, which is now very expensive. Used with the double bass also in "overdrive mode"; low ratio and high input. Sounds fantastic.

It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) - R.E.M

Epiphone thunderbird classic pro, neck through with the Gibson USA TB pickups, nice and light at 8.5lbs. Lovely low action with a 38mm nut width it plays very nicely, a few minor marks here and there but still a really smart looking bass. Hard case with a key. The best of the Epi 'birds now discontinued. Pick up from Nr Plymouth, or courier at cost I guess around £20. Happy to drive an hour or so for a meet up if it's helpful.

@Sean I think you’ve done right by yourself; f*ck them.

Nope i wouldn't put up with that in any band. Even if i was a paid hired hand i still wouldn't accept that behaviour. I like a bit of joking around with bands but that's pushing it too far. You've done the right thing. All the very best with the new band. Keep us posted on the new band and would be curious to hear how this final bass bash goes. Dave

Yeh, I wouldn't have put up with that, I would join the ranks of the bassplayers that had left (or probably more likely been sacked for turning the top and bottom knob of the bongo flat out, the middle two off and slapping the whole set - trebbly enough for you?)
-
Thanks guy, much appreciated

Slipknot - Duality, which was a lot trickier than I was expecting, and Muse, Unravelling. I mean I am also learning Staying out for the summer by tricky for the other group, but as we haven't had a practice for a while, which means that when we get back together the guitarist will a have forgotten it again and take the practice to relearn it, I am not putting too much effort into it!

I've had a lot band related purchases and very little purely bass focussed, this year. Tops for me goes to the RCF 932A PA speakers which were an upgrade from our previous RCF 912A and 732A sets of speakers (which me and one of singers respectively had). The 912As - excellent on bass, 732As - excellent mids for guitar and vox. The 932As provide the best of both worlds. Managed to pick them as B-stock for less than the cost of my bass backline and we put the whole band through them, none of us using backline, without needing a sub-woofer even for the smaller outdoor gigs we were doing earlier in the year. Worst - none so far, fingers crossed. (I did buy a Fuzzrocious Lil Fella which I've not really used due to finding some great drive and fuzz tones on my Boss Multifx, and which I'll probably put up for sale at some point but not because it's been a disappointment). @Acebassmusic - my Elrick Expat in action (through the 932A). Lovely bass! -
Blimey, it's been a while - is nobody earning anything? 😆 Anyway, after our drummer decided he wanted to concentrate on the other band he's in with our singer, we've been rehearsing with our new bloke (he was suggested by the old drummer) and it's all going well thus far. So well in fact that rather than just revisit all the old stuff, we're working up a few new numbers as well, hence this post. The unwilling victims in this case are Running Down A Dream (Tom Petty), Sightseeing (Bob Seger), and Why Did You Do It? (Stretch), the last being suggested by our new drummer and a definite slight change in feel for us. New brooms an' all that, eh? 😃

Well, there is one on eBay but not sure how much I trust that advert!

Some magic seems to have occurred... The observant amongst you will notice the 8" plans. This is the home made router jig and it set up for a 68mm hole. This was some tests I did"just-in-case" This is the baffle board with what appears to be the right sized hole and a 68mm with my printed port set in. The router jig works really well and cost an hour or two of printing and two M5 bolts. As I'm intending to make three boxes, there's an awful lot of batterns....

I’m surprised you’ve put up with it @Sean, doesn’t sound like a pleasant place to be.

I think for me, now I see I can have a couple of presets, the XS-1 is probably going to be the right one, no room for a XS-100 and no use for the expression pedal on a pitch shifter.
