How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Stub Mandrel replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
I was in a band with a guy who used to sight read drums and play with orchestras, even played for the BBC. He was a hard task master, would play challenging rhythms on the bass drum for me to play, and 'it's straight eights on the original' didn't wash. He left when it was obvious the (six-piece) band wasn't really bothered about gigging, and having already made up my mind that if he went, I would, I followed. I was flattered when he asked me to join another project, but I was way too busy. -
They're plastic cases. I've also seen the Electrovoice EKX12P which looks good and the Turbosound iQ12 which are in the same ballpark price range.

thats where i bought my VM4 from and he gave me a great deal on it when i just phoned to ask about it. He offered to drop the price for me without me even asking. I like them. Its one of my fav shops. Love browsing it even just to see what they've already sold. Dave

Think all but one of my basses (Yamaha BX-1) are over 8.5lbsup to high 9's. My Overwater Custom 6er fretless will probably be heavier but i'm usually sitting down when i play it. Dave

Unlikely to help, I had one, can’t remember what I did with it but it didn’t help. In active mode just try rolling the volume back and see if that helps. This is how you’ll know if it’s an impedance issue or you’re hitting the pedal with too hot of a signal. It’s more likely the latter as Boss are buffered pedals so the input impedance isn’t as important as if it was a vintage fuzz.

Not quite new but in such good condition it looks new. Its one of the earlier 212 cabs i believe. Bought @eddbass cab from the for sale section yesterday. When i went to try it Eddie had it set up in his conservatory with a TC Staccato amp. Boy that thing was loud. All set flat same as the bass. He let me use his gorgeous Warwick Jack Bruce Signature Thumb bass to test the cab. Oddly enough i'm a huge JB fan from his session era with Cozy Powell etc. He was a big influence for me along with Neil Murray. Initial reaction after the volume was how deep and yet clear it was. The tone was even across the full bass range. No boominess anywhere and no high end shrill that i've experienced with some amp/cab set ups over the years when you boost the EQ on the bass. Loved it, bought it there and then. An easy one hand lift too so that was another huge bonus. Got it home and set it up with my Mpulse 600 and using my Gaddy Jazz it just sounded so bloomin good. Left the amp with the same settings as with my Mesa PH212 cab but this sounded deeper and clear with every note. As i positioned myself around the bass cave (its a small box room so not a lot of space between Mesa rig, multi bass rack, filing cabinet, Hi-fi separates and my album and CD collections along one full wall) but if you stand to the side of the cab you can still hear it as clearly as standing in front of it. I've never experienced that with a cab before. The volume and tone remained the same even leaning over it and beside it. Its hard to describe that TBH. Its a very well built solid cab. Handles at each side and one on top and a set of inbuilt wheels at rear bottom edge to tilt and run more so on even floors i would imagine. Only one Speakon connector on the back. Not that i'd need to hook up another cab with this one as its fairly loud at 4ohm. My only minor criticism and its been rectified in newer models i believe is that having strap handles on the sides means it can't be stored securely on its side in the car so i may put some small rubber feet on one side fixed to the corner metal protector screws. Might need to use slightly longer screws but that's fine. Doing it this way means no other holes drilled in cab for extra feet. That way it will sit flat on its side in the car. Other than that i can't fault the cab. Will use it at Beat Generator gig in Dundee this coming Saturday to give it a proper test but i'm confident its gonna work a treat. I think i may be a BF convert after this cab. Dave I believe the newer models have recessed handles on the side. No big deal and an easy fix.

Hi, How did you try to update it? Via Guitar Lab or manually? Might be something pretty dumb like a ,,not so good,, USB cable. I’ve got one but for the sake of it I can’t remember how I updated it.. Ver 2.0 last firmware on mine.

The brightest basses I've ever played... well, one would be my old GB (now owned by @meesterbassman)- Bernie makes a point of his basses having a very extended top end, he always called it the "high-tech sound". It was also all ash and maple, so it was a very bright, trebly bass to begin with. Others would be pretty much any Status - the top end you can dial in on those is crazy. And MTD - those custom Bartolinis they use are super-crisp, and they'll definitely shred some tweeters with the treble control dialled right up. Also, pretty much any bass fitted with a John East U-Retro or Uni-Pre- the high end boost you get when you pull up the treble control is very sharp. I've owned several Bongos, and still have one. They can go pretty high, but not "pingy" - their character is mostly in the high-mids rather than super-high treble.

Thanks everyone for the help on this thread. Strings on my bass successfully changed from old Helicore hybrid to Evah Pirazzis. I did have to open out the slot for the E string in the tailpiece with a file, as the string was too wide. (I texted my teacher first 🤣). My pegbox isn’t as pretty as JPJ’s though.

We use a Google calendar for our bands email address. We email meeting invites for rehearsals, gigs, when people are away, etc. to that email address, and it comes up on the calendar for everyone to see. -
Damn! I wish I had thought of that! 🤣

I’m way ahead of you on that point Dave, order already in (via Mark at Classic And Cool Guitars) for a Superlight Lionel but lead time is 2 years. So if I can get hold of one in the meantime would be great as even my JMJ Mustangs at just under 8lbs are getting a bit heavy, who knows where the back will be in 2 years.

I am here to make the inevitable "pump up the bass" joke.

What do we reckon folks? A new bass, a pedal, an amp, a complete new sound system? #HowHasWavemakerSinned?

It might be cheaper to get a shipping company to send a small container than take everything as excess baggage on an aircraft (normally a very expensive way of doing it). It depends on how long you are moving abroad for, and how many things you are taking with you.
